Hi, I had an old multibit wallet (2014) in an old PC which had a hard drive failure.  Sadly my mother brought the PC to repair and she didn't know that the BTC was there. The people who repaired gave her an external drive with some info.. and put a "new" harddrive ( i don't know if this is true ) ...

If they replaced a dead drive with a new one, the dead drive probably went in the bin (and so did your wallet)?

In the end you are telling us the PC had a drive failure so if the drive failed it is normal for the repair-shop to replace the hdd.
But then I'm not sure why they gave your mother an external drive "with some info" ? ...

yea maybe they threw it away , they kept it or maybe what i hoped that they didnt change the HDD and they did something else  so i tried the file recovery services but i dont think so these are the files.
They gave my mother "an external drive with some files that she wanted like pictures and sshit!

So you guys think i lost all my BTC? Sad

Did you try recovering this yourself fist, just to check if you could do it. That'd have been a good start. Also, how long was the computer getting fixed? Is it possible the store owner took the files and overwrote them somehow without effecting the disk too much.

Unless the .key files have a similar signature to the .wallet or .info files then it probably won't be worthwhile recovering those wallet files as you say.

yes i tried to to that but nothing worth. The computer was repairing like  15 days or so . They said it had a HD failure so they changed the HD and put another one. They gave my mother an external drive with some files that she wanted... (pics and shit) but no wallet.

so what im guessing here is that the people who repaired the Computer kept the HD to see if they could get the BTC or just they threw it away.. Sad

Thanks for you opinion tho!

But isnt strange that they just found .wallet and .info files.? NO .key or any wallet backup.

Other than the partial ones, I assume they'll fix the repairable ones themselves?
I dont know about this , i think they dont guarantee that the files are in good condition.

What i think these might be wallets that i created after reinstalling multibit and i deleted them just because i didnt needed those, but im not sure because they dont have the timestamp date or the real name so... idk its like gambling  :S

USED Data forensics services to recover BTC wallet . NEED HELP ASAP

The people who repaired gave her an external drive with some info.. and put a "new" harddrive ( i don't know if this is true ) ...there's something sketchy here.

Anyways I got back the PC and found that Multibit wasn't there so I installed it again and tried to open my wallets but they were not there.

Recently I tried to recover the files but without success.

Now I sent the laptop to a data forensics recovery ( biggest multinational) and they gave me the following answer:

it has not been  possible to find rest of structures that do not allow a reconstruction of the directory tree nor we can either guarantee the integrity of the files.
Therefore the unique viable option has been to realize a raw recovery. This technique does not allow:

To reclaim the original name of the archives: the files that appear in the report could have been famous. The new denomination is an alphanumeric combination to be able to differentiate the archives individually.
To reclaim the original structure of the directory tree.
To reclaim the original date: the dates that appear in the report could have been modified.
To guarantee that all the files have been able to recover.
To value the integrity of the files: the state of no file is guaranteed

And they sent me the following file names :

--------------------FILE LEGEND---------------------

All files and streams are tagged with the following conditions:

Good               These files have a high probability of working correctly
and no structural or read errors were encountered.

Repairable         These files may function normally and/or contain usable data
however some structural errors were encountered.

Partial            These files have a low probability of working correctly.  They
may contain structural damage and/or read errors and data will
be missing.   It is recommended that you attempt to open all
                      critical files.

Files and streams with repairable conditions (Rep_Cond) are tagged as follows:

data integrity of this file cannot be guaranteed.

folder. The data integrity of this file cannot be guaranteed.

file's default data stream does not contain errors, the file may or may
not be 100% accessible. The data integrity of this file cannot be
      guaranteed.

integrity of this file cannot be guaranteed.

be rebuilt. The data integrity of this file cannot be guaranteed.

folder. The data integrity of this file cannot be guaranteed.

Files and streams with special attributes are tagged as follows:

programs use to control which files and folders are backed up.

         deleted.

         require additional work to recover.

in a different directory or volume.

a MAC to be read properly. Data contains a MAC-specific alternate stream.

File signatures (SIG) are tagged as follows:

signature of the file data. The file has a high probability of working
      correctly.

the signature of the file data. The file will need to be tested by the
      customer to determine recoverability.

verified to match with the file extension. The file will need to be
tested by the customer to determine recoverability.

I think Ethereum has a lot of potential for other things than just exchanging value. We have to wait and see if there´s any great app built on top of it. Also i think bitcoin it´s always going to be ahead of ETH in terms of volume,price,...etc

I'm more worried about the increasing US national debt.

China already control most of US debt, so if they wish they can hurt US, but they will hurt themselves too.

But their economy is decelerating now, so maybe if they fall they would like to bring others together

That´s an interesting pooint right there, if China wants can hurt the entire economy but they are having a Real State bubble as never seen before, so they might go down first.

Marketing smart contracts app built on Ethereum
by
BCNBULL
on 14/04/2016, 22:18:51 UTC
HI, I was wondering if its posible to build an app on top of the ethereum blockchain, that runs smart contracts based on information out of the platform.( another web,domain....) for two parties but both  of the parties just see FIAT currency,  and of course integrate to write a smart contract as easy as posible (not code)all of this  with a central admin (me)  that keep a % of the trade . Im building a marketing app and i want to use smart contracts to simplify transactions and maximize revenue. Building own token?
Using ethereum below the counter (the merchants and clients just see fiat or BTC)?
IF you have any advice  or want me to explain you more i will be more than happy. Thanks
