Re: Account farming. Allowed?

Wouldn't be helpful if I did, it's mostly private information he can't access anyway. I can't help with the spreadsheet.

Not really a fan of mass banning accounts based solely on a pattern. It's a good starting point/correlation though, I've banned a few thus far (couple hundred total).

I will wait and see if BadBear turns up here in the next day or two to thank me and supply the spreadsheets i requested with info on the investigation of the quoted farmers, maybe a strategy! Maybe BadBear will post a new list of farmed accounts (with evidences) he has found!

I don't share information like that. It just gives them more information on what to avoid, and what not to do. They read this board too.

Re: Forum ranks/positions/badges (What do those shiny coins under my name mean?)
by

I was just lazy, and the 30 seconds to get a response was faster than sifting around.
No. Repeatedly asking the same questions, when they have been answered probably hundreds of times is not the right way to proceed. Not only does this clutter up this thread and the forum, it is also very redundant and time-wasteful.

It's because not everyone are aware of the rules and not that easy for them to find those posts first.
It is your duty, as a member of this forum, to become familiar with the rules. It is quite easy to find them as they are marked as a 'sticky thread'..

true, if i cant understand something here and i cant find it in the forums, i use google , mostly google search can find topics here easier than our own search engine

@Lauda I know it is my duty and I did search for the rules, but this forum's search engine is so bad that it doesn't comes up with the proper results and also it keeps the newbies wait for few more minutes before searching again. But what is the purpose of wait time to searching again when can't find something with the previous tags?  Huh

So please correct me if I am wrong here but. I've read over 15 pages just to get this far because of the same question.
So here it goes
Since it updates every 14 days on the same days as everyone else. Like a billing cycle/pay period

So if on day 1 of the 14day cycle I make minimum of 1 post/reply to a post. That =1 point because I met both criteria of loving in for the day (time?) and posting.

If I do this EVERYDAY then then each cycle I would receive 14 points.

But if I fail to do both EVERYDAY and miss one then
I would no receive my points until I met both criteria at least once then the following cycle I would receive my 14 points for the current cycle.

So login and contribute to the forums EVERYDAY then I would receive 14 points every 14 day cycle.

**( this one I'm guessing)**nd any post under the minimum 14 points would roll over to the next cycle as long as I keep logging in EVERYDAY.

SO PLEASE CORRECT ANY MIS INFORMATION

You're overthinking it. It's a 2 week period, so no, you don't need to log in every day, it's not a daily period. If you log in and make one post in a 2 week period, you get 14 activity for that week. It's that simple.

However your activity can be capped by your post count, so it's possible for your displayed activity to be lower than it could be, this is referred to as potential activity. This activity stays available, it doesn't go away. As you make posts, your activity would continue to rise if you have potential, regardless of periods.

Edit logs are already kept, though there's no web interface for viewing them, so it's not efficient. The notification could probably be more visible.

I haven't been keeping up with the new software, but the intention was for edit revisions to be visible to those who could edit the post (so OP, mods, admins, etc), though ideally it's customizable. Part of the problem with SMF was they had a very narrow view of what admins/mods/users should be able to do.

You're just a sig spammer, and the fact that within a few days of banning/warning you previously, you acquired another ~dozen accounts and continued posting the exact same way tells me all I need to know.

You will not be unbanned.

I banned your primary account, knowhow for 2 weeks, and permabanned all your other accounts. I don't want to stop you from participating on this forum entirely (well in general), just to stop the spamming. It's a warning, take it or leave it.

No your other accounts won't be unbanned.

That's pretty funny. Flashbacks.

Yeah, he's still banned. He had a very bad tendency to derail topics, he refused to keep it to his own topics.

I am conducting an intellectual campaign to free the Italian forum by scammers and profiteers.

That's fine, but the rules still apply. You should take a breather, get with Hostfat and make more of an effort.

or are you judging him based on the 20% of his posts that you can read?

Try not to look at it that way. Look at it like "This is a red flag, you guys should check it out". If I saw that post I wouldn't ban him immediately, but I certainly would take a closer look. That's what reports are for.  Smiley

One had 5 accounts, the other 19, all with similar posting styles. Spammers indeed.

Re: Query about Activity
by
BadBear
on 13/04/2016, 10:51:52 UTC
A brandnew user who registered today had 0 activity and 1 post but after few hours only his rank got to newbie and activity became 1.

What have you got to say about it ?

I have read everywhere that the activity and ranks are updated at 14 day period. But the ones of brand new and newbies is updated earlier. This is contrary to the fact of 2 weeks period. Am I right ?
Neh. Basically, the brand new or the newbies do register during the 2weeks(14days) period(interval). Henceforth, they get potential 14 activity points for that period (in simple words, you can call 'em as registration bonus) & ultimately you'll see that after every post(made by a newbie with less than 14 activity points) their activity point increases by one.

Thanks for stepping theymos, would you say this , as described by QS is what happened? Not questioning him or something but confirmation from you would be great
Edit: By which I am hinting to the fact that he was trying to pull other scams from his alts, a large exit scam at once.

Haven't read most of this thread, but yes I recovered the account ~ Feb 5th. I'm still fairly certain it was the real IronMarvel.

I don't know for a fact what happened after that, but as far as I know what QS said is correct.

That was referencing people who make posts saying check out my ref link guys, it's in my sig since I'm not supposed to post it.

I don't care if it's there, but don't make dumb posts like that.

I don't think that's him. It's more likely the guy that was spamming his address and complaining about getting ripped off by whatever mining company.

Even if it were, it wouldn't matter. If it's not one person spamming it'll be another.

Life goes on. Can't imagine one is okay with wasting so much of their time, life is too short, but everyone values their time differently I guess.

The root of the problem is our election process. It inevitably leads to a 2 party system. The fact that neither party truly represents a majority, is a large part of the reason why so many people are disinterested in politics.

I don't support either party, they're both terrible.

dont think your constitution applies to non citizens who live in other countries

The constitution is a set of rules for the government to live by, and a statement of American values. If we allow our government to pick and choose who to apply the values and standards to, then better hope your group isn't next.

The constitution clearly specifies persons and citizens at different points.

Wouldn't that mean less shares for the existing ones? Or does the share from ad revenue only go to Global moderators and Section moderators, not Patrollers?

I'm not in charge of that but...it can, yes. I do know theymos has said he doesn't want it to turn into a competition, but it's a balancing act.

I wasn't planning on adding any, just a general observation regarding what to do about them. It'll stop eventually. If not, well it's increasing mod payments, and patrollers are fairly low risk to add compared to moderators, they can only act on newbies and the actions can be easily reversed.

Can't please everyone, so someone is always going to be mad.

Lol you like that game? Well I'm taking that as a recommendation to play it(does look interesting in dem trailers)

Sure, it's a blast. Easy to pick up and start, but difficult to master, has a high skill ceiling with stuff not really shown in most trailers, like aerials and wall action (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSjQ_9rXutg). Has a matchmaking system with ratings so you get paired up with people around your skill level generally. Compared to something like say, Starcraft 2. SC2 is considered to have a high skill ceiling, but it's artificially inflated by forcing people to do micromanagement activities like injecting larvae, managing hatchlings, things like that (APM, or actions per minute). It just ends up being frantic and kind of a drag, and makes it more difficult to focus on the fun part, the strategy.

I don't play games all that much anymore, and usually just on weekends, but when I do I play with friends so we play competitive multiplayer type stuff like Rocket League, or Heroes of the Storm. Sometimes TF2.

It's probably not very feasible to lower it for one specific person. For an entire rank would be easier, but it'd probably be better to add more patrollers.

P.S: Noticed the change in the Bear's avatar?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSpnqB-z-xs

What can I say, I like changing things up. If it were possible I probably would have changed accounts here many times by now, like I do with pretty much every other account, other forums, email, reddit, whatever. I don't like knowing that one account found could lead to a wealth of information going back many years. So I change my avatar instead and pretend it means something. At least I don't change my name.

I don't care if you say it's a lie, or if you think it's a personal attack, or what random people on the internet think of me.

And you're not going to be a helpful admin and answer questions?

I balance how helpful I'm going to be, with how helpful it's actually going to be. I don't see how carrying on a conversation with you is going to be helpful. Prove to me it isn't a waste of my time, and I might change my mind.
