We are not rebranding AUR, it's still the same coin. Starting a fresh coin in Iceland will never get the same distribution within Iceland.

It's worth mentioning that Peter seems to think it's a rebranding:

http://cointelegraph.com/news/auroracoin-makes-a-comeback-in-iceland-the-country-mired-in-financial-scandals

Anyway, couldn't the same distribution method that was employed with Auroracoin be employed with a fresh coin?

Is the goal of this project for people in Iceland to use AUR when paying each other?
Yes.

Does Bitcoin's failure to penetrate the remittance market in any country make you think that Auroracoin would fail to do the same in Iceland?

We love BTC but the problem in Iceland are currency controls that prohibit people form buying BTC, therefore Auroracoin was distributed to the people of Iceland.

It is legal to exchange the krona for AUR but illegal to exchange it for BTC?

Do you know who controls the address containing ~40% of the AUR?

Most people in Iceland buy bitcoin using localbitcoins.com , and if they have AUR there is nothing stopping them from exchanging to BTC. AUR can be used as a middle man currency between ISK and BTC.

My suggestion for the ISK exchange is to have 0% fees and create more volume to have the illusion that the exchange is busier then it is. This will attract the Icelanders into thinking they missing out, I know you people are most likely doing this already but try push it to $50k . Then pay some puppet at cointelegraph and newspaper in Iceland to write up a articles about the influx of people.

Thank you for your suggestion. We will not participate in market manipulation. We already have 460 users after day 1 of business. Media attention is very good and all biggest news sites, newspapers have contacted us for a interview. We will be on the evening news tonight as well. We will never pay for interviews. There is a lot yet to be revealed in the big plan.

Nudge Nudge Wink WInk. 460 users Wink.
I was always told "There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch" but with AUR getting all this "free" media attention I have to review this statement. Well done!!
460 = 0.14% of the nation, do the math with Holland. Did you not you sell all your Auroracoins?

Come on apcoins, cut the bullshit. 420 of those test accounts? Volumes would be over $20000 daily.

It comes down to this and it's really simple, if you are bagholder it's not a scam, if you not a bagholder it is a scam.
There is nothing special about AUR as a coin. Buying at these prices regardless if it's a scam or not is dangerous as the coin it's copying aka Digibyte has a lower marketcap then AUR by $800k.
This is a obvious pump before the rollout of the advertising and Multi Algo fork.

AUR is special because Balduro was the first person to come up with a solution to the problem of how do you get crypto into the masses without convincing them to go sign up for a shady service like Gox and get screwed in the end or find a drug dealer to sell drugs for Bitcoin with. Because for the first few years of its life that was the only way for a normal person with no mining equipment to get into Bitcoin.

I still remember the drama over AUR when it first broke on this board and all the Bitcoin maximalists frothing at the mouth with hatred, guys like BitcoinEXpress coming in to fork it, people marching in line to call it a scam even though real Icelanders were proving they were getting their coins etc. etc. but how many of these Bitcointalk "legends" would have been willing to give away even 5% of their Bitcoin hoard to people all across the world in hope of spreading its adoption? Virtually none of them. And once AUR's marketcap was driven into the ground they all had a good laugh and went on their merry way.

People on here tell everyone crypto is literally "earth changing technology", yet they constantly talk good projects down like its worth nothing more than a few small burger joints from the midwest. The local business I work for alone pulled in $9 million last year and all we do is print paper products with a 10 year-old website, I didn't even know it existed in town when I interviewed. But there are small businesses like this all across the world making 10x the marketcap of even the top alt coins in crypto.

It kills me when I see kiddies saying things like Bitcoin with a $7 billion marketcap "is alot". LOL, just Mcdonalds alone is worth $90 billion.

It's one thing to attack the technological fundamentals but history has proven time and time again the best tech doesn't always wins. It's all about the best combination of solid and STABLE tech, a bit of marketing pizazz but also commitment to knowing who your customers are. Not trying to say AUR is like a product, but I believe the fundamentals of business and commerce is all the same regardless. It's all money at the end of the day right? The AUR team is one of the few who knows their target market versus alot of github autists who "think" they know what the average person wants or needs. AUR is one of the few alts with potential for real world use, versus all these other coins on CMC which are all designed to trade and make more Bitcoin and have no hope of ever being used for anything.

If you are going to treat crypto like trading baseball cards, than that is all it will ever be. But I personally think it can be much more.

This is a hell of a good post.

You can't explain away what was a pump. lol Good effort though. Smiley As you can see over 30 btc buy support already pulled from the market.

This latest article from cointelegrsph sets auroracoin  up really nicely for a big surprise next month.

http://cointelegraph.com/news/saving-icelands-economy-did-auroracoin-fail-its-mission

At the end she lets slip that an icelandic bank has started a campaign to educate icelanders about crypto currency.

Expect auroracoin to be part of this strategic campaign, still to be announced next month.

Auroracoin is trading at a massive discount here.

This wonderful person with morals in the right place had every right to express these thoughts , this person is not asleep.

AUR is only about making the scam developer rich and a few others that have joined the party. AUR is not about breaking the shackles of financial freedom, it will end up hurting the people of Iceland. Bitcoin is the only currency I would feel comfortable with my people being involved with.

The only thing I have against this article is that it's mostly based on old information!

Regarding the troll post about this all being a scam. It is funny to point at Cryptsy's cold wallet and say "see this address has a lot of coins". If you then look at other individual addresses in your post you have to realize that the truth is that many people claimed Auroracoin by getting social security numbers from friends and family to claim the coins.

Take me for an example, I claimed for myself, my wife, two children to the same address. I then claimed for my parents on another address and my in laws in another address. This way I claimed for 8 people in all three phases of the airdrop but only used 3 addresses and none of them has 638 or 318 or 31,8 coins in them.

Eggert if you are interested in talking this over you are welcome to sit down with us over a cup of coffee and we will get much more progress than calling out names or cry wolf, wolf over things that can be explained rationally.

Amazing how all these newbie accounts just jump to defend Adamastor.....
Bullying?? PLEASE..........
Matthew, you blatantly have a personality disorder and seem to be taking too much drugs at all these hippie festivals you go to.....get help now.......It's excruciating to watch......
You are a disgrace to South Africans....rest assured that your antics will be the talk of the Saffa community in London.........
This thread needs to be moderated from now on.....really can't have some delusional South African Muppet and his multiple personalities trying to be an attention whore on what is an ICELANDIC project...............

ICELANDIC project run by internationals, please give us a break. The focus can be on Iceland which is good, it creates a purpose for the coin but if the Pirate Party does come into power they are big fans of bitcoin and if bitcoin becomes legal in Iceland, AUR will be nothing. The sole purpose for AUR is making sure bitcoin remains illegal, based on this why would you want to isolate AUR, it's a big risk.

Guys I'm just a kid from sa who loves auroracoin and was lucky enough to buy in early.

There are some guys on this thread that claim to be defending me.

I have no beef with anyone and my agenda is not adoption in sa as everybody is so quick to claim.

I actually use auroracoin to pay my rent. Thereso no agenda there, I as a free individual and better off making income and expenses in auroracoin and am so glad to have left my normal currency behind.

My only wish is that peopleven in iceland love auroracoin as much as I do. My community already loves auroracoin and have made the intellectual jump onto the block chain

I for one think you have been treated unfairly in all this, although your response at times has been a little aggressive but it's the bullying tactics from the team that got you upset from what I can see.
Everyone needs to keep cool heads about this, as others have correctly said AUR is mostly with internationals and not within Iceland. 70% of the team is not within the Icelandic borders and I am 99% sure balduro is Dutch. The coin is a novel idea by LTEX or whoever came up with the plan and as such we should embrace AUR as a decentralized currency and not something that is in isolation.

Are you doing this out of the goodness of your heart?

After NLG, pretty much, mate.  I do own AUR, but anything short of my family on the verge of being homeless, I won't sell it until I step foot inside of Iceland's borders.  In fact, I'm probably the lowest holding member of the team.  In fact, I'm almost entirely certain I am.

I made enough coin over the years to consider my time in crypto worthwhile.  It's paid for xmas and birthdays and such over the years.  But honestly, mate... I just want to be involved with something where I'm at least appreciated and listened to.  Coming from the hell that was last year, I'm happy that they asked me to help with AUR.  I don't get paid anything, I don't even expect anything out of it.  If I can be a part of something worthwhile, that's all I need.

I know that might be hard to believe, but you should be able to recognize the difference between where we came from and AUR.

-Fuse

I believe you about being one of the lowers holders in the team. LTEX, Biomike and Kenchanyu are the biggest holders according to a discussion on the old ANN besides the 1 million kept with the foundation.

Kenchanyu said he only owned 1% of the mined coins? I lost interest in this coin when the premine was destroyed and then admittedly tried to hype it to sell for a good profit. I bought back in quietly over the last few months when the price went really low as I saw the team didn't give up.

The largest holder imo is still the dev who created AUR. A lot of the 5 million airdrop was stolen and this was proven by various members in the btctalk community which is why it is a good thing you started a new announcement page to try hide that history.

What started off as a scam can still be made into something special by a honest team.

I have made contact with a government official in Iceland and will be mailing her all the details about AUR and if it will be legal to implement the ISK/AUR exchange. I will be mentioning you can use AUR to buy bitcoin but also that it will be used mainly for use in Iceland. Should have answer back next month, I will also be giving the details of the 3
foundation members. Once I have feedback from her I will inform the community to let you know what the real situation is so you more informed.

Please can the foundation members PM me your numbers and email addresses so she can get in contact with you to find out more information.

Pétur Árnason (IC) - Chairman of the Aurarad foundation
Hermann  Finnbjörnsson (IC) - Boardmember of the Aurarad foundation
Hlynur Þór Björnsson (IC) - Boardmember of the Aurarad foundation

Will this email address aurarad@aurarad.is be fine ?

Since this has been a topic of discussion:

Our lawyer sent letters to the Central bank and the FSA because we want to run a cryptocurrency brokerage business/exchange in Iceland trading, buying and selling etc.
These two letters are the formal letters from the Central Bank and the FSA in Iceland that our lawyer received.

The first letter is from the Central Bank and signed by the Deputy Governor.

http://i.imgur.com/xuaNLyf.jpg

Notice the beginning of the last two paragraphs:

"Laws do not require you to get any license to do business with cryptocurrency"

and

"Currently there are no laws that will call for government intervention regarding business like you describe ".

This is the formal letter from the Legal department of the Financial Supervisory Authority

http://i.imgur.com/qUiy3Dl.jpg

Notice the last paragraph in yellow "Doing business with crypto does not require any license from the FSA"

Why is bitcoin illegal in Iceland but not AUR or is bitcoin not illegal based on the above? AUR is really a bad clone of bitcoin but inherently performs the same function. Once you in the system you can bypass exchange controls. I believe this is what the user wants to find out.

Just read this analysis of the legality of Auroracoin and Bitcoin in Iceland by Dr. Peter Roudik of the Global Legal Research Center : http://www.loc.gov/lawweb/servlet/lloc_news?disp3_l205404097_text

If I am reading this right, Auroracoin is not recognised and cannot be used in payment of goods or services in Iceland. At all. It can't also be traded on exchanges based outside of Iceland or with non-Icelandic clients, since the Icelandic krona cannot leave the country (as per the Icelandic Foreign Exchange Act). I think the devs have very limited options with Auroracoin, and one wrong statement or move could see them breaking Icelandic laws.

So what is the end game, here? Surely this is all not a matter of speculation?

This is just not correct. Either based on false information or misinterpretation of facts.

Cryptocurrencies are not by any means illegal in Iceland nor is there any restrictions to use it to trade goods and services. We are setting up an exchange here in Iceland where Icelandic people can buy and sell Auroracoin for ISK. Before we went ahead with that we had our lawyers send out official letters to The Central Bank of Iceland, The Financial Supervisory Authority and the Directorate of Internal Revenue (IRS). Each gave us an official reply back stating what we already knew as I have talked to them directly before but this was to make it official.

What it stated:
They don't consider cryptocurrencies to be a legal currency as that requires that a consumer must be able to have a claim to an central issuer of a currency according to laws nr.120/2011.
Current laws of Iceland do not protect consumers for possible loss of cryptocurrencies in case an exchange that holds consumers cryptocurrencies fails their duty or in case a payment goes into the wrong hands.

Now the part that is the source of all the misinterpretation and misunderstanding.
Icelandic laws do not require that any special permission needs to be given from the central bank for trade with cryptocurrencies. However the central bank states that when it comes to currency trade the central bank has their role according to laws nr. 87/1992 and that applies to cryptocurrencies like anything else. It is the central banks view that there is no authorisation to buy foreign currency of an financial institution in Iceland nor to move foreign currency out of the country in regards to business with cryptocurrencies.

Current laws do not assume any other possible intervention of the central bank for the type of business that you describe in your request other than what is stated in this letter.

We got the same answers from the other institutes all pointing towards a joint statement they did at the time of Auroracoins initial release. That statement holds pretty much the same as the official letters we got back from them.

The Financial Supervisory Authority
http://www.fme.is/utgefid-efni/frettir-og-tilkynningar/frettir/nr/2041

The Central Bank of Iceland
http://www.sedlabanki.is/utgefid-efni/frettir-og-tilkynningar/frettasafn/frett/2014/03/19/Advorun-til-almennings-um-syndarfe-e.-virtual-currencies/
http://www.sedlabanki.is/utgefid-efni/frettir-og-tilkynningar/frettasafn/frett/2014/03/19/Notkun-syndarfjar-getur-fylgt-mikil-ahaetta/

Directorate of Internal Revenue
http://www.fme.is/utgefid-efni/frettir-og-tilkynningar/frettir/nr/2041

Ministry of the Interior
http://www.innanrikisraduneyti.is/frettir/nr/28881

Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs
http://www.fjarmalaraduneyti.is/frettir/nr/17813

So what this translates to is that there are no restrictions for people in Iceland to buy, own or trade cryptocurrencies. It only states that we do not get an exception from the currency restrictions and buy foreign currency for the purpose to buy cryptocurrency. Meaning that it applies to cryptocurrencies like anything else here in Iceland.

All these links to laws and articles are in Icelandic but for those of you not speaking Icelandic I would think Google translate should give accurate enough information.

If this is the case, then someone should get in touch with Dr. Roudik and brief him of the facts. The Library of Congress is an important resource for American lawmakers, world policymakers, journalists and students - more so its branch, the Law Library of Congress. Imagine how many people are laboring under the assumption that Auroracoin is without any utility. If Dr. Roudik is sufficiently convinced, who knows, he might write a new analysis and the LoC could be updated. There are only three cryptos (Bitcoin, Litecoin and Auroracoin) mentioned in the entire LoC - the biggest library in the world, containing over 158 million books and documents. Take advantage of this rather than allowing statements like " they cannot currently be used for payment of goods or services in Iceland" go uncorrected.

All I am going to say is that when the government figures out that people are using AUR to get into bitcoin and get funds out the country those 3 foundation members better be out of the country. The price will skyrocket but we don't want these guys who are breaking the law to make us money to go to prison. You are living in la la land if you think you there won't be consequences. It's no wonder 70% of the team is not even Icelandic and sitting comfy in their own countries. Make sure your 3 foundation members get out of Iceland when that exchange goes up!

My one worker can build OSX wallet for 10 000 AUR or 2.6 btc

2.6? I always outsource mac wallet creation and have
never paid above 0.1. I don't think auroracoin is that challenging
technically.

AUR is basic as it get. No challenge but for this dev team it challenge.

Who will pump coin over 30k again? That was nice price.  Grin

My concerned behind the AUR latest pump saved my BTC.

How much BTC profit you make?

Simple. No Loss No Gain. Didn't invested. Someone knowledgably person of Crypto told me one sentence. "Don't invest when it's pump phase".
Studied little history and I saw last movement of AUR; when it reached moon. Old people (team) left with hefty profits. There isn't much left in AUR to make profit anymore.

What makes me think is first when the AUR project was recalled, they said it was for Icelander people, and then plans changed to convince political parties and looking forward for coming elections in Iceland. I don't know.

A little bit of hype doesn't do any harm as long as foreigners believe it as they don't know what is going on in Iceland , so you can say streets is paved with gold and price will be pumped on cryptsy. The AUR/ISK exchange won't last long because bitcoin is illegal in Iceland because it's easy to get money out (exchange controls). For that brief moment the ISK exchange is up before the foundation owners get ass raped in prison is the time to sell.

May I ask that the dev team gives us dates for any developments they plan to release as this makes trading easier.

I sell auroracoin as a broker in south Africa and I need to communicate auroracoins roadmap to my clients.

In the past, developments such as the end of the airdrop, the burn and the launch of the website have resulted in predictable increases in price.

I expect furture developments to affect the price in the same way and if the dev team communicates dates for these developments in advance that can help auroracoin traders and brokers like me make better decisions that are in the best interest for the auroracoin ecosystem.

Thanks for the great work so far, go team!

How are South Africa people taking to AUR? Will they pump the price up over 40k?

Rather keep posts like this off the ANN, for a coin that is meant to be almost half a million in marketcap should not be asking this questions. I can understand a coin that is $20k in marketcap needing help. This is why the price has fallen overnight.

i'm sorry, are you asking for LESS communication? That would be a first for a crypto community.

Danslip does not understand that this coin is not going for crypto tech innovation. It's a different goal, there is nothing wrong with AUR as it is, even with no development updates. Mainstream people can't tell the difference between what geeks call a shitcoin and advanced coin.

You can find it on the auroracoin.is website. These are the old wallets and yes 1.3.0.0 is the latest version. We are however just a few days away from publishing new wallets.

New wallets? So the price will start rising again Smiley. I like it.

New wallets coming tonight or tomorrow?

A few = 3 days and msg was on the morning of the 6th, so tommorrow they go live unless they not professional enough to stick to schedule. Wink

How is "a few" = 3? In IT world, "a few days" are 2 weekstm

lol, good one!

So today is the day !!  Grin Grin Grin

Do we have to upgrade to new wallets today or will the old ones still work ?

Thanks for the warning, I will shutdown my wallet today and upgrade tomorrow. Great job to the new team for delivering when they say they would! Smiley

3. I have never stated anywhere that most of the coin is distributed to foreigners. Actually I believe the opposite, though some foreigners might hold some large bags. If Auroracoin gets good adoption in Iceland and the price gets right, those coins will find their way back to Iceland one way or another and so what if those bagholders made some profits on it. Good for them. That doesn't mean that the Icelanders who will buy these coins from them are loosing something.

Lets not kid ourselves on this point. Foreigners do hold most of the coins. The team is made up of foreigners except for the foundation and I doubt they doing all this work if they hold less then 10 000 coins each.
Kenchanyu, Biomike , LTEX must have over 1 million between them.

I still think this coin is going to be a great success but be real on this point.

It does not matter that the dev stole some coin, it been said many time by others that Icelanders don't know about btctalk. I won't be much on for next month to follow this thread but I advise everyone not to sell coins cheap. I have built up close to 1% of the total supply just by trading and will sell in small quantity when time is right not to crash market. Good luck to team if it fails I don't care if it succeeds I make some extra money and become rich off teams hard work. bye for now.

How much of the premine got distributed to Icelanders and how much did the dev steal?
As far as i know no premine was stolen, there are some that question about 40k in many small transactions. This has been explained but still some believe this to be the amount.

In the link below you can examine the transactions from the airdrop, amount and the rest of the premine that was burned (about 5.4 million)
http://blockexplorer.auroracoin.eu/chain/AuroraCoin

I think the person responsible for coin now was part of the coin creation. Highly intelligent person who put everything in motion, once a team had been made the premine was destroyed which was perfect timing. The creator of the coin like others have said was not from Iceland but someone from Iceland was used as a puppet.
So I think this coin is going to go places because of the thought behind it but it's clear if it wasn't for the 1 million held by 3 people in the foundation foreigners would own 90% of the coins.
