Re: I'd call it a bottom right now. Maybe the lowest in the near future.

Waaaay too early to call the bottom yet. While I do like the fact that we bounced off almost the exact bottom of the mid-late november crash, there is plenty of pent up market frustration to still be released. This being the bottom, however, would fit quite nicely with the progressive shrinking of bubbles (32-->2, 266-->50, 1240-->455) = (93.75%, 81.2%, 63.3%)
love the way you are analyzing trends

I wish NY Times, Forbes etc. would report about this... the maturing of Bitcoin rather than some silly satoshi-dpr "link" that some "expert
 came up with.

site should connect to intermediate which in turn issues commands to bitcoind:

site connects to:

intermediate (either on separate or bitcoind server): sanitize inputs (reject sending more than x BTC for instance) and issue walletunlock

bitcoind

Pretty much nailed it. I think btc will become more of a store of value than a commerce player though... At least for the first couple years.

Amazing times.

Re: A proposal: Forget about mBTC and switch directly to Satoshis

FWIW I tried explaining bitcoins to a bank manager in Malaysia yesterday. All was going well until I told her what the current price was and you could tell she had lost interest. If BTC/XBT hits $1K then human psychology is going to kick in as a barrier to acceptance for the average Joe and Jane.

The satoshi idea is nice... but:

people keep on buying Berkshire Hathaway stock at around $100k a share

1 BTC becoming more and more expensive will turn it into a diamond like asset

keep BTC unique and let it flourish.

Re: Bitcoin crashes when those investing realise 2 things

I actually tend to find a divisibility a good argument. However, one can find very difficult to own an atom of gold, whereas you can own 0.0000001 btc.

So, I do believe can crash because of this. I just hope it will return to a niche.

Let's compare apples to apples.  There are about 10 billion ounces of gold in the world.  Divide that by 21 million and you get that the final supply of each bitcoin equals about 476 ounces of gold today.  A Satoshi is 0.000 000 01 bitcoin, so it is equivalent in supply to .000 004 76 ounces of gold.

.000 004 76 ounces of gold might sound small, but the equivalent value of that amount of gold at current prices ($1276/ounce) is .6 cents.  That seems oddly close to a reasonable base unit for a currency to me.

Coincidence?  I think not.  Satoshi knew what he was doing and probably based the final supply and initial divisibility off of similar calculations.

excellent analysis, thanks.

Re: Bitcoin today is like what FB was in 2006
by
BitCloud

I see BTC having (at a minimum) a similar value potential to previous paradigm shifts:

- FB social
- GOOG search
- MSFT, AAPL hardware

Or Banking:
- BAC
- CITI
etc

All these companies start at around $150B in valuation.

Bitcoin has a 99% MONOPOLY in crypto currencies.

There's a good chance for BTC to enter the 150B league in 4-7 years which would result in a Btc/Usd of around $10,000.

Re: Lakefront property for sale, bitcoin accepted
by

I don't see anything wrong with the OP's posting:
- meet to inspect the property
- agree on inspections, final sales price, escrow / title company

that's it... real estate escrow will handle the transaction for a fee.

The biggest issue I see here is finding a RE escrow company willing to verifying if bitcoins cleared or not.

Salesprice will have to be provided in $ to county recorder.

The OP is right by saying that RE transactions can be much more straight forward as they usually are with agents taking a fortune for supplying a standardized  3 sheeter contract.

Good Luck!

someone buying $1B of btc would double the current price back to $260 or so and it would probably run a little higher than that

so... lets find a billionaire to do that
