I would like to buy a FPGA and program it with LabVIEW. Is this a good idea?

does cpu mining still work ?
Not really and only with slushes crap shoot ... did i hit it lucky
does pool hoping work .. hell yes especially if you have a slow gpu
After a certain time you just keep submitting shares to keep what you got
going elsewhere at least you get something  for the hrs your spending ...esp if they hit every couple hrs
slow miners get more pay on the short haul  after 2-3hrs they are just trying to keeping up

If you don't like MY OPINIONS   TOUGH
that's the way I see it

If you got a super rig .. may be you can ignore the screw job bs others are saying
for the little guy every share makes a big difference ...1 of 100 vs 1 of 1000 lost
most gpus are mining so fast you never see whats going on

That's not a question.

So there seem to be two different things:
  • Amount if Bitcoins that I have earned and will be sent to my Bitcoin adress some day. (This Amount does not change)
  • An expected value that will be added to this amount when the next Block is solved.
How can I find these two numbers?

Which of these two numbers is the number that is called "Balance" on http://coin-control.appspot.com ?

I go back to deepbit until I find an explanation how Eligius works that I actually understand. Deepbit is so successful because you get  0.00041032137601209 BTC per share, no questions asked. This is transparent and simple. I don't want to use a miner without user interface that does not dispay my balance, and if it does the balance is decreasing.

Like Einstein said: “If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough”.

I made Coin Control so you can view your Eligius stats

http://coin-control.appspot.com/

Why is the balance changing over time? My balance is decreasing right now.
