Re: What can you actually buy with Bitcoin?
by
Bitcoldcash
on 03/01/2022, 01:01:09 UTC
I know that Bitcoin has become more known and trusted by many people but I still see many popular websites don't accept bitcoin like amazon. I'm only seeing bitcoin is mostly used for illicit activites or as an investment. Why Bitcoin isn't adopted yet in most legimate websites?
I think the policies of each company will be very different and will certainly be adjusted to the needs that are really needed. because we know that accepting payments with bitcoin can be sure there are profits and losses that must also be taken into account because price movements change all the time, which results in those who are not familiar with bitcoin will think to accept.

Just recently (before christmas day) i come to find a seller online that accepts Bitcoin and he has tons of items that i can use as give away and gifts to my friends and love ones.

I have bought items worth 600$ in bitcoin and paid Him using my Electrum wallet , and yes the deal is successful and he even give me more freebies because He said that i am the first costumer of Him that pays using Bitcoin and I am proud of being that.
you are one of the very lucky ones that can make payments using bitcoin because almost many countries are still hesitant to be able to provide a policy for bitcoin to be used as a legal means of payment. because many countries still take into account the situation with the conditions and rules that must be prepared and certainly not easy.
Currently, there are few companies that will take Btc. But U can always find individuals that will trade goods/service for Btc.

Re: Btc is boring
by

I guess people who see bitcoin as boring really don't know how to make money simply as that.

I mean if they want a fast phase game then definitely bitcoin investment is not for them as you need to have a lot of patience.

But if you are really into investments, you will have to understand that it will take time to grow your money, like in bitcoin. When I joined the market, it was like ~1k, now look at the price, it even hit an all time high of $68k. So it has grown tremendously over the years so it's not boring per se if you see your money growing over time.

Re: Recovering wallet with .dat files (no key phrases)
by
Bitcoldcash
on 02/01/2022, 02:50:23 UTC
Hello all,

I am wondering if it is possible to recover an old wallet from 2011-2013 without the key phrases. I believe I have the backup but I am not entirely sure. The folders/files I have are:

blocks (file folder)
chainstate (file folder)
database (file folder)
testnet3 (file folder)
.lock
banlist.dat
db.txt
debug.txt
fee_estimates.dat
mempool.dat
peers.dat
wallet.dat

I am currently synching Bitcoin Core to maybe help locate the wallet address first.

Not really sure what I am dealing with here so hopefully I can get some insight on this situation.

Thanks in advance! Grin

Re: is bitcoin scalability problem solve now?
by

on 02/01/2022, 01:13:57 UTC
so need me to quote your "layer" stuff you say everytime.
Literally, every time you change the subject of the topic just to make yourself seem right about one of your claims. And you're also being rude. I'm trying to understand and justify your hate about LN, but utterly fail. There's probably something wrong with you.

millisats are not a thing bitcoin understands.
Millisats is a lightning thing, but the amount is rounded down when the channel is about to get closed and the commitments are signed in BTC. So, if you had 1mBTC and 1msat in the LN, you'd have 1mBTC funding commitment transaction ready to be broadcasted in the Bitcoin network whenever you wish to.

even the "liquid" teams
Leave liquid out of this. We're talking about the Lightning Network now.
Btc has a scale that is limited.

Re: Hope to get help, and the idea of a mutual DAO
by
Bitcoldcash
on 31/12/2021, 06:06:37 UTC
Gentlemen, I beg you to help me. Due to the epidemic, I lost my job and my mother had a stroke not long ago. To this end, I not only sold almost all my cryptocurrency, but even carried a heavy debt. Maybe for whales, a few eth, or even a BTC, is nothing at all. But what they see as insignificant can save me.

These days, I'm thinking. If cryptocurrency has evolved to Dao, can it help poor people like me? Why can't we create a Dao that provides certain medical relief and life relief to each other?

If there is such a Dao, it allows anyone to join through KYC. He only needs to buy a certain amount of insurance every month to be eligible for relief. Such Dao does not need us to give money to life insurance companies to make huge profits. We just need to help ourselves, help each other, everyone for me, I for everyone.

We can even build strong communities. If we require community residents to participate in collective online activities every month, they can stably obtain the qualification to be relieved. Then, our community activities can even be commercialized, and the funds obtained can be enriched into the vault.

The goal of this Dao is not to make community residents rich, but to protect them, give them relief and give them hope for survival when they are in trouble. How beautiful should it be!

I have no technical ability to implement such DAO code, but when I was in trouble now, I suddenly thought of people who met with disaster under COVID-19. We know that since the COVID-19, rich people are getting richer and richer, and the poor are not only poorer, but also more middle class. Under such circumstances, can't we unite?

I know that there are many senior encryption technology researchers here. You have strong technical strength and even enough money. I hope you can achieve such a Dao, an autonomous, mutual aid, non anonymous and secure insurance organization.

I won't post the proof of my disaster and the address of my wallet here. If you are willing to help me, you can email me and I will prove it to you. If you are willing to be such a Dao, you can continue to say your thoughts here.

Thank you for reading! I always talk at length, but I'm really not calm now. When I think about the debt and my mother's illness, I feel very sad and heavy.

Re: Bitcointalk Youtube channel - what would you like to see?
by
Bitcoldcash
on 29/12/2021, 01:57:08 UTC
Just for the record (and in case I didn't explicitly mention it) I did subscribe to the channel, and I think I was #7.  That post I made about 15 subscribers might have been after I'd subscribed, but I can't remember, nor is it that important.
Exactly that is not important that which subscriber you were because in the end we all continue at some positions but the main point of concern is to show support to the channel and i firmly believed you were early subscriber of the channel even though you don't subscribe to most of them easily.I was also among the ones who subscribed it fast but don't remember at which position i was.

And dang, did I really make 20 posts in this thread?  Jeez.  Didn't think it was that many, but now it's 21 and I'm very much looking forward to the next video--and I'm hoping this project hasn't been abandoned.
On the other side i was surprised to see myself with most posts on this thread among other members who were actively taking part in the discussion about the channel.Seeing the community support and his last post and pools the channel is not abandoned in my opinion so hope for the best.

I don't doubt that it takes a lot of work to produce a very high quality video, but personally I'd be satisfied with fewer bells and whistles, less editing effects, and just plain more content (i.e., more videos).  I'd be OK with them not being so "produced" like many professional Youtubers' videos are.

Yes it take lot of efforts and equipments to make high quality video and you need to do lot of editing with different softwares and filter the content throughout the video and it take team combined efforts to publish the video and maybe Cyrus is not having big team to support him but yes the true enthusiast are also ready to watch it in the low quality also so not much of worries about that. But i don't think people are doing much of efforts these days to make video about bitcoin and there is huge difference in video these days as most of them are crap related stuff and here is how the time has changed these days:

So hoping the channel video fade out such things and bring more true picture about forum and some bitcoin related events to educate the people correctly.

I don't know what "big guys" you're talking about, but I was hoping there would be some kind of spotlight on the more prominent members at some point, because as far as I know it is supposed to be a channel about the forum and not about bitcoin-related stuff necessarily.
Yeah there could be some video sponsored to the specific members that have contributed best to the forum as i have suggested to interview them once but most of them wants to remain anonymous and doesn't want to disclose their identity but yes some prominent members discussion on forum journey would be good to watch among viewers also.

Finally saw this today and posted same day I read it.

May be okay.

who is the host bear?
Don't know who he is because we only have few seconds of glimpse of him like all the viewers in which he changed three t-shirt's  Grin and introduce the forum and then go away. Will disclose who the white robot is with time  Grin

When everybody stop stalking @Cyrus about this video, then the magic will happen.
Waiting for the magic to happen and like exciting audience just coming here every week to see if the magic wond has just flung to unveil the channel video out of closet.
I'd like to see a show about what people BUY with their Btc Winnings.

Re: How to keep BTC safe amidst bans?
by
Bitcoldcash
on 28/12/2021, 12:14:41 UTC
You can keep your bitcoin through a hard wallet or even in electrum wallet.

When a country banned bitcoin, they usually ban transactions only, so your transactions cannot be legal but you can always keep it and bring it anywhere you go. I'm sure on some countries like China, altough they ban bitcoin trading but I'm sure there are some people who are holding bitcoin because it's possible, the only way to stop people from holding bitcoin is when the government ban the internet, which is impossible.

It was close friend of mine who introduced me to bitcoin and it was completely new term for me at that time but similar to other's I also did the same mistake and underestimate it or say ignored the concept without any investment and at that time was few dollars only but my bad luck.Slowly it gained momentum and i came across it once more so decided to dig deep about it and then realised my mistake.Invested few amounts then but sold some again for funds required but glad that i still hold some stash in it and will hold it for long term.
Yes, I found Btc around 2009 when it was $1.00 for a Btc. I did not buy any because I thought it was an SCAM.. Who Knew?

Re: Thoughts on the Metaverse craze ( for concerts )
by
Bitcoldcash
on 19/12/2021, 18:05:43 UTC
One thing about the Metaverse: I think it will work for some things... not for others. Example: I checked out the Ariana Grande thing on Fortnite... WTF was that ?!?! The whole thing just felt like a video game or some kind of a barbie adventure quest. Is that what people want ?!? Personally, I'm a guy and also happen to be a musician so I want to see Ariana ( the real Ariana, not some 3d Barbie doll ) sing, look sexy in her cute costumes, flirt with the public, interact with the other musicians, dance , talk to the public in japanese , etc. The nice graphics and all that ? Maybe for a music video ( even then, I prefer the real Arianna as we can't make CGI sexy yet ). True that we can't put 2 million people in a concert hall , but we certainly can stream the video concert on PPV ! ( or sell the DVDs ). So I'm not sold in the whole Metaverse thing for concerts, I don't think it works for boybands or boy singers either... most teenage girls want to feel close to their idols, occasionally jump onstage to hug them, and sometimes even get a free backstage pass to hang with them.
New bands are always find to hear.

Re: General Milley apparently committed treason
by
Bitcoldcash
on 19/12/2021, 06:55:46 UTC
According to a report, General Mark Milley committed treason when he allegedly informed China that he would inform them if the US was going to attack China prior to the November 2020 election.

funny part is. if the U.S had to attack china..
..by international law, the same general would have to inform china first.
research declaration of war
It is possible to attack or even invade another country without declaring war. Both Iraq wars and the war on Afghanistan were not preceded by a formal declaration of war. It is also sometimes necessary to attack in response to an attack against your homeland.

IMO, Milly was basically inviting a preemptive strike by China against the US.
Regardless of your opinion on the War on Terror, and the War in Afghanistan, I think it is difficult to argue that the way the exit from Afghanistan was handled was anything less than treason. There was the question as to which members of the Biden administration (besides Biden) had betrayed their country.

funny part is. trump signed the executive order to withdraw in a certain time, also trump signed to say that the taliban could and should take over once US troops leave.

so its trumps fault, not biden.
trump set the rules, biden was left with the mess and aftermath
Trump had a goal to leave Afghanistan within a certain timeframe. Trump was not going to leave Afghanistan without the conditions in Afghanistan being appropriate.
I have the  same thoughts to have Btc in Afghan.

Re: I have shared about bitcoin on my class

I'm having an MBA degree on Marketing. Due to COVID19, we are having classes online. However, we had a term paper submission and presentation on "Deceptive Advertising". I have selected the freebitco advertisement and had presented their Bait and Switch method to attract newbies to have click on their site.
The advertisement is- "Win $200 bitcoin per hour" which I think totally a deceptive advertising. Through this, I was able to give a little hints about bitcoin among my fellow mates and my teacher. I felt lucky when teacher asked me what bitcoin is actually after my presentation, I gave a short answer to them.
This was really great achievement of me, it may not be to you. I feel lucky if I get a chance to talk about bitcoin among my country men.
Yes, keep talking Btc baby.

It is possible, that Satoshi is/are reading all these bitcointalk contributions ... and although some pepole want him/her/them to come back, nothing happened.
Possible if he/she, they are still alive.

Tell one good reason why Satoshi should come back. (good reason = improvement of Bitcoin)
I don't know if there's a need for him to come back and surprise us. What he has done is more than enough already. Well, if he comes back and sees the project that he started is already big, he'd surely be proud of it.
No way of really telling if the person is still alive. When billions/trillions of dollars are involved, #STRANGE events always occur.

Re: Sent BTC: Binance to Trezor- Completed status however no coins
by
Bitcoldcash
on 18/12/2021, 23:44:41 UTC
Hi Everyone hoping anybody can help me out!

BTC was sent from a Binance account to my Trezor. Binance generated the receipt showing Completed however no coins arrived and the TxID generated from Binance is nowhere to be found on any Blockchain explorers. The receiving wallet on Trezor is a bc1 (Segwit), it is not faulty - has received BTC pre and post this anomaly.

Few days later Binance sent a notification to the sender advising them that they sent the BTC on the wrong network and Binance cannot recover the coins.

Please help!

How do I go about either pulling the BTC through to my Trezor or have it bounce back to the sender.
This is all my savings on the line and more, so hoping somebody can help me!

I tried setting up Electrum on all the different networks available and linked to my Trezor however it doesn't bring up anything. Cant even see my existing coins on it despite setting up a Segwit wallet also? Perhaps Im doing something wrong, can anyone help me please?
Yes, one of the pitfalls of sending crypto. If all the ip's are not PERFECT u lose everything.

Re: [Bounty - Claimed] Vanity address split-key generator software
by
Bitcoldcash
on 18/12/2021, 22:28:47 UTC
Hello,

I have been working on developing a "vanity pool" for split-key address generating. You can read more about it here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=84569.0

As the Vanity Pool is starting to take shape and working okay, it's time to look into getting some split-key generation software going (a "vanity miner" if you will). So I'm setting a bounty of 10 Bitcoins (plus whatever gets donated) for member of the Bitcoin community that will create software with the following features:

Quote
- Allow one to generate Bitcoin addresses using the split-key methods (either the one requiring the private keys to be added or multiplied) in search for a vanity addresses
- Be free from any malicious code
- Be open-source and provided in full free of charge
- Come pre-compiled for Windows 32 and 64 bit and include Makefiles for MacOS and Linux
- Generate keys using OpenCL
- Be able to generate at at least 10 Mkeys/s on AMD Radeom 5830 HD
- Give an option to the user to automatically fetch and submit work from a "vanity mining pool" through the use of the protocol outlined in https://vanitypooltest.appspot.com/faq
- Does not overburden the vanity mining pool unnecessarily by making more than at most one call per minute for getting a new set of work (submitting valid work is not to be restricted)

Or in more human language - allow one to generate split-key vanity addresses on a GPU at a decent rate and automate work fetching from the provided website. The website for testing the solutions is available at

https://vanitypooltest.appspot.com/

and running on Testnet. More bounties for vanity-mining-related software will be coming in the near future, so keep a lookout.

If anyone wishes to increase the bounty, the donation address is:
1Cuw26gA2nhuqjBELwL6QGG89RsqfaV3v8
The current total is:
10 12 BTC

EDIT:
The bounty has been claimed by samr7 and his oclvanityminer:

Your project is super cool. I want to learn more about it.

Re: "Only invest an amount you can afford to lose"
by
Bitcoldcash
on 18/12/2021, 21:30:11 UTC
@Leea1334 Yes, The risk is in all types of investments and one should invest only the amount he can afford to lose. In the case of crypto there are many people who have not yet accepted crypto as a trading asset. And maybe because of this lack of acceptance they find crypto more risky.

More or less all investments are risky , no investment is risk free but we should learn to manage this risk to make our investment profitable. Risk management is very important tool in finance which we learn by experience and through training programs. Investment in crypto assets is comparatively  more risky in the short term but in the long term it is highly profitable if you invest in Top 10 crypto currencies including Bitcoin and history of Bitcoin has proved this fact again and again.
u WILL ONLY win if you control Millions of coins. Hence, spend less to buy more low price coins.

"Crypto"?  What the fuck is that?

Jojo.. you gotta know better, no?

Hasn't no one learnt you nuttin properly yet?

Most important about mindrust =.......

He had invested X amount of FIAT and proudly announcement he had a positive exact amount of FIAT out of it.

Each person got his own goals, he achieved the goals he was chasing at.
Where can I send my crypto?

I feel like over the years, we've seen these kinds of accounts come and go.

They come in, talk a big game about buying Bitcoin because libertarian ideology and how they are going to hodl forever.

Then in just a short time they quietly hit some pitiful goal and sell all, or quietly panic sell all.

Then they disappear from the forum, never to be heard from again.

Bitcoin has also been around a little while now. Many members of the community have passed away due to various issues. Some have gone to prison or fallen ill. I doubt it’s always about the money alone. While I’m sure there are plenty of people who have cashed out and are out living their dreams, I don’t know if we can assume that’s everyone’s story.

Ultimately, I agree with you OgNasty in respect that there are a considerable number of stories out there, but seems to me that Torque is expressing a certain amount of legitimate skepticism regarding whether some accounts are actually being genuine with us in terms of their actual stories.... and also there is a certain level of dumbness that comes through the average JoeBlow, even if he is being genuine... come into bitcoin and acting like he has some kind of BIG plan while at the same time lacking in a lot of fortitude and stay-with-it-ness .. in terms of actions speak louder than words.. and talking a BIG game is not the same as actually sticking with the plan without whimping out along the way.
