1.  The Genesis Block Newspaper

It is definitely a top historical piece that  deserves residence at museum. Only so far 8 of them found I believe in existence but I may be wrong.

I run the site on the Genesis Block Newspaper collectible.  We’ve managed to track down and verify about 7-10 copies.  No more.  So you’re right on about that!  Smiley

FWIW:  Always require full supply of the original inserts along with it, if you’re ever in the market to buy one.

PS:  sorry OP, I didn’t know which category to put this item as it is a newspaper.

Top 2, and only 2 I have.

And I guess even if I didn’t have them, they would still qualify as the top two collectibles in Crypto in my opinion.

1.  The Genesis Block Newspaper

2.  Casascius coins

All other collectibles seem to be a very very distant comparison imo.

Probably a very stupid question but I’ve actually had several people offer to buy it from me.

Figured I’d ask what you think the value would be of such a thing?

It’s actually 2-3 wallets with total purchase of 33,000 ETH.

If you had a buyer will to pay half of $500k you would have sellers come out all over the place, you tripping if you dont think a quarter mil would get sales ripping

Understood.  There's only 8 of them in existence that we've been able to verify.  Another 1-2 who claim to have one but aren't responsive to communication and we haven't verified.

Of the 8 in existence, all but one say they're not interested in selling.  Honestly the $500k label is probably just a symbolic way of saying its not for sale.  I've had the Winklevoss Twins email asking to buy, and nobody would let theirs go to them.  Deep pockets is an understatement for those two.

I received a note from a motivated Hedge Fund manager offering $300,000 for a copy.  Currently reaching out to him to see if that offer still stands.

And why would it matter who JDBound is? Its not a secret btw.

Sorry about that.   I wasn't sure who he was.  I just always try to be discreet in referring to who has copies, etc.  Didn't mean to imply it was a secret or that he isn't already known.  I did verify though that he wasn't the one I was thinking of.  So there is 1 other individual willing to sell at this time.  His last number was $70k.  But that was a year ago.

The winning bidder has been contacted.
It didn’t get anywhere near 40BTC .....and it didn’t get anywhere near 20BTC. Roll Eyes

I told you those were wack-a-doodle prices!

Congratulations on what you got though... I guessed less than half of that amount.

For the record:  Just because 1 person decided to let the newspaper go for less, doesn't mean the other prices are false.

It just means this is the price 1 person was willing to let it go at.

Even though its hardly a low price as 7.4 BTC works out to over $60,000 at the price of Bitcoin on the sale date.  (EDIT:  I assumed a BTC price of $8100 after a half-second glance at the CMC chart from the date of auction).

I own TheTimes03Jan2009.com - and if JDBound is who I think it is, they are the single, solitary individual out of all the newspaper holders who was even willing to consider selling.   They were also the only individual who had an actual asking price below $500,000.

So if this is the same individual, then I would consider this a one-off event, and the new owner to be an extremely lucky person, because after this, you are not likely to see one to for anywhere near this price again.

Wanted: 10 Year Anniversary London Times Newspaper
by
BittBurger
on 17/02/2019, 07:18:02 UTC
Hi all -

I actually run the website on the Genesis Block Newspaper [ https://www.thetimes03jan2009.com ] and it figures that I managed to miss getting a couple copies of the Jan 3, 2019 issue of the London Times.

Given that its not the original, and its technically just an advertisement taken out by a random crypto company, I wouldn't expect that these will increase in value much over time, but to pair them with the original Genesis Block Newspaper as a collectible, would make the original it a little more interesting.

Looking to get 2 copies if anyone has 2.

Thanks

This site does not work.   Until they fix it I would be wary about entering any information on it.

So for now:  Scam.

I've searched several addresses I know were there at the time of the fork, and it doesn't find any of them.

Lots of fake social media accounts tied to this project, no actual human suscribers in their Reddit (only 35 total), tons of fake comments in the Telegram.

Publicly announcing exchanges before being approved is usually something no legit project does, or they risk getting banned from that exchange ahead of time.  Their homepage lists discussions with Bittrex which I have seen previous ICO's get banned for announcing.

People everywhere spamming discount codes.   Supposedly block USA contributors, but they don't even have a simple IP checker on their token contribution page to block USA contributors.

A weird announcement on their telegram announcement channel on Oct 3 about getting hacked:  https://imgur.com/a/kG3R5

Be careful investors ....... red flags everywhere on this one.

ICON (ICX) is best long term investment I know of right now.   Its the ETH / NEO of Korea.

They have their own block chain and its a HUGE established company connected well throughout Korean business and government.  Its a similar platform to Ethereum and NEO and will host ICOs and smart contract systems.

Best long term hold in the space right now without a doubt.

"Page count" on the "ANN" threads here is (oddly enough) a good indicator of hype to determine if its a good short term investment at least.

That is also a decent indicator as to whether its a good long term investment sometimes.

Top projects in my opinion include 0x Project (ZRX), PowerLedger, and ICON.

ICON will be massive.  It is the Ethereum / NEO of Korea.   The company is heavily connected to industry and business throughout Korea.  Someone even speculated that the South Korean Govt waited until the day the ICON ico finished and then implemented their ICO ban.   Giving ICON free reign to dominate the crypto scene in South Korea.   This puts ICON (ICX) as a top five cryptocurrency with its own block chain (Not an Ethereum token) for 2018.

Kim dot com ICO coming January 20 will be massive.

Powerledger (see my signature) main sale has 1 day left and is still cheaper than ICO price.  That's a good investment.

The Kim Dot Com / Bitcache ICO I believe will be the biggest ICO of 2017-2017 and its coming January 20th.

Keep an eye out for that.

Others to look into right now:

BLOCKv
Leverj
Change-Bank

Uber just needs to start accepting it as a form of payment.

Unfortunately the Core dev team is opposed to Bitcoin being used as a currency.   This is why there is so much drama, and upcoming forks.   There is a real mutiny going on right now everywhere with a lot of angry people who wanted Bitcoin to scale years ago.

Hopefully in the end things will work out.   Bitcoin (in my opinion) fails to be what it was made for if its not acting as Peer to Peer Cash.   Think im wrong?  Go read the title of the White Paper.

OP just keep in mind, we are still getting started.   2020 is the next halving and you can expect a doubling of whatever the price is then, by around January 2021.   I believe that's when we'll be seeing the $10,000 BTC prices.   Plenty of time between then and now for it to slowly increase into the $5,000 range, and then they cut new supply in half ... $10k is soon after.

Bitcoin is going to $100,000 per token just like Berkshire Hathaway stock has gone to $135,000 over a period of 20 years.  Hang in there.

Re: DId anyone get investigated when they cashed out a lot of bitcoin?

I spoke to a couple branch managers of major banks about this.

As long as you are cashing out less than $100,000 nothing will be triggered on the bank side.  In other words, as long as they aren't seeing a deposit coming in from outside the bank that exceeds $100,000, nothing is triggered in their system to look into it.

This has been confirmed by a few friends so far.   No questions were asked.

There was some good advice given though - that it wouldn't hurt to call your bank ahead of time and speak to a manager.  Especially if you plan to exceed $100,000.

Let them know you've been investing in "international currencies" and will be cashing some out.  Being forward about it and transparent ahead of time often diffuses any knee-jerk reactions that otherwise might have happened on the bank side.

NOTE: This is in the USA only.
