BouerBouer's Signature Shop [0.1BTC per signature]
by
BouerBouer
on 25/06/2011, 12:08:07 UTC
Hey guys, I've been doing signatures out of my own interest on and off for the last 5 years, and so I will now be offering them at 0.1BTC here. Smiley

Here are a few signatures I've made recently.

http://i635.photobucket.com/albums/uu75/GunGraveTZA/LouisMash-Up.png

http://i635.photobucket.com/albums/uu75/GunGraveTZA/L4DSquadLeaderImprovedVersionBigBor.png

http://i635.photobucket.com/albums/uu75/GunGraveTZA/AssassinsCreed2Signature.png

To request a signature, please post in the following way:

Name on signature:
Caption on signature (optional):
Theme (can be anything from a general theme to a movie to a TV show to a video game):
Spesific ideas? (optional):
Large, small or custom? (large is 450x180, small is 450x140, custom is accepted with a small additional charge of 0.02BTC):
Behind-the-scenes? (optional, for an extra 0.03BTC will send you early versions of your signature until the completed one):

Once you have posted, I will make the signature and post a low-quality version of it on the forum. You can then transfer 0.1BTC to "1GrtWovYTZhKeNmR1YU7W5fxYabxKSyhVn" without the quote marks, then I will upload the high-quality version.

So what are you waiting for? Post your requests now! Smiley

Okay, the wallpaper is finished. However, since it is a large custom size I will PM it along with the high-quality version of your signature once I have recieved the payment for it. It's 0.15BTC in total. Smiley

Haha yeah, was trying to think of something that looked hacker-esque and the first thing I thought of was green command line-like text. And I thought of Fallout before the Matrix. Tongue

While I work on that (it will most likely just be the Metasploit logo and your name in the middle) please send me the 0.1BTC for the signature, then I will PM you the high-quality one. Smiley

Okay, well the signature is done. It doesn't have the text effect you requested, as I stated will be probably, but I will PM you with a possible solution. Tell me what you think. Smiley

yeah it's good, but would you be able to get rid of the glare, and change my name to SomeoneWeird, Wink

OMG how did I do something as stupid as that sorry. Fixed and fixed. xD

I intentionally went for a low-fi style, as I think it's pretty difficult to pull off the same smooth, stylistic approach I do with my other signatures. Tell me what you think. Smiley

Okay, that's very cool how Metasploit did the text on that T-shirt, but unfortunately it won't be possible in your signature due to how it's designed. Sad

However, it IS possible with the wallpaper. As what you are requesting is quite simple as a theme, the signature will be nice and simple too, so I will upload the signature first, then work on the wallpaper. Smiley

hmm, alright. So your saying you won't be able todo it on the sig, but can do it on the wallpaper, or can't do it on either?

Sorry it's just that was a bit confusing Tongue

Well I meant it'd be possible on the wallpaper. I just need to figure out how to do it. Tongue

Anyway I finished your signature and posted it here, BUT looking at it it's far too minimal. So I'm improving it right now with a few small details I think could make all the difference. Should be back up in half an hour. Smiley

The real value of BitCoins.
by
BouerBouer
on 21/06/2011, 11:28:36 UTC
Many people have been arguing what is the real value of Bitcoins. Some say that there is no value for them as they don't represent anything. However, I believe that Bitcoins have one real value.

Currency.

"What? The real value of a currency...is currency?"

Well let me exlain. Think about it. No matter where you go in the world, you can use Bitcoins. No matter where you are, whether you're in Switzerland or Texas, Bitcoins will have some kind of value. And there are many different websites allowing you to trade Bitcoins into other currencies. So while the idea of the Bitcoins themselves having value could be argued, I believe that it's essentially a glorified bargining chip.

For example, say you wanted to order a book from the UK using Bitcoins. The seller from the UK would see the coins as valuable because they could either keep them and treat them as stocks, or they could trade it for around £10 per Bitcoin.  A single bargining chip becomes 10 pounds. That in itself would make it valuable to the seller. It's also useful for the buyer as they have complete control of their transactions due to it's non-revertable nature, and because (in some cases) it's easier to use a single bargining chip than risk information with their credit card.

In my opinion, for a currency to really stand up on it's own it has to be based on something measurable and valuable in society. While Bitcoins may not represent anything directly valuable, they represent the one thing that keeps the worldwide economy going. And that in itself makes it a valuable part of economics right now. Even if it's impact is, as a whole, minimal.

Anybody else catch my drift?

Hi, we would be interested in speaking with you. We are also creating a community funded Task Force to beef up security across the Bitcoin community. Send an email to info@tradhill.com with the title "Task Force"

Regards,
Adam

Okay, well thank you very much for the offer Adam, and I will be writing you an e-mail shortly. Smiley

However, I will keep this thread open as I would also like to do some freelance vulnerability checks on my own. So does anybody have any requests for me?

Offering free security analysis of BTC markets or BTC-related sites
by

Hey guys, I recently started looking more into the crisis over at Mt. Gox, and I was absolutely shocked to find out that all of these accounts, worth (likely) over half a million dollars combined, were hacked with a simple SQL injection.

Now, what is an SQL injection, you may ask? It is one of the most basic and well-known methods of cracking websites. It is constantly seen as one of the most high-risk attacks possible on websites, yet it seems to be over-looked time and again. I'm guessing that whoever was behind this attack has been inspired by the recent Lulzsec epidemic, as most of their recent attacks seem to use this method. If I remember correctly, they downright admitted this was the case in their recent leak of a few thousand FBI accounts.

Now, SQL injection is not the only method of attacking websites. There are, of course, others. But by Mt. Gox simply ignoring a very basic vulnerability in their site, they put their customer's at risk. And so, this happened. As a result, out of personal disgust I will be doing free security audits for any site related to BTC market trading or any site that uses BTC that would like to be audited.

If you would like me to audit the site, just post the website URL here and I will PM you any vulnerabilities I find. If you wish to be on the safe side, you can just post here that you would like me to audit the site then PM me with the URL. Again, this is entirely free, but donations are appreciated at my address: 1LmRDt5z5Ry4JarzcRow3HFa1dLYFf5kJF.

Most likely I will only point out the possible vulnerabilites, but if I have some knowledge on the vulnerability then I will suggest ways to prevent your website from coming under attack through it.

SQL injection? WHAT?

SQL injection is like one of the fundamentals of web hacking. Hell, I can do it.

This is seriously making me worried about the security of online market services related to Bitcoin.

And the lulz kick-starts again.

This is why I'm pretty heavily against using Mt Gox right now. That and the lack of Pound Sterling support sucks.
