@kano    Would you have any suggestions for making your linux-usb-cgminer system secure as it will be connected to the net 24/7.   I have thought about bastille and also removing apps that I wont need (like office apps , gimp etc etc)   is running tripwire overkill?    any suggestions?

Well I think I have enough experience with Debian to try and recomplie cgminer, However the fact that no other tool will work is a bummer.

looks like I will have to find another solution.

Ive just spotted this on my instawallet page

WARNING:
It's all available in the blockchain for an imposter to access as well.

so maybe the site is only useful for onetime oneoff transcations

funny I did  actually learn something!

I could PM you the full address if it helps (but I douth that somehow )

I only use it to learn stuff anyway so its no real problem!

it reminds me of the bank robbers who would take 1 penny out of everyones account for a month or so and stick it into there own account and then cashout the account

however blockchain.info does look like I am sending something to other addresses ( but maybe I have that wrong? )

[qoute]is there a log of deposits and withdrawals available?[/qoute] I thought thats what blockinfo was for

[qoute] Are you sure you didn't withdraw?[/qoute] Definitely not!

[qoute]Have you posted your URL anywhere public?[/qoute] No, I only have it less that a week also I know not to do that!

my eWallet is at instawallet.org and you dont have to log in. I just use the bookmark that was provided.

Yesterday it said Balance was 0.0000003
Today is says   0.00000001

I just used blockinfo to see what transcations accured (I thought that was what it was for (no?)

@scribe                    Interesting read    keep it up (but start your own F**king thread ) Tongue

@ridgemont4          For me Gambling just sucks, period!

@ norulezapply       Well I define "Begging" as asking for something for nothing for MY own fianical benifit.

If you think thats what I was after then your missing the spirit of the whole post. I was using it as A LEARNING TOOL and nothing else.

I thought it was a novel way to learn how to work with bitcoins before I actually dived into this area

I plan on setting up a mining rig when I can establish whats safe to spend my money on, as at the moment there are competing technoligies arriving ( FPGA vs ASIC ). I dont have the luxury of spending 2000 quid for a rig that MIGHT last 9 to 12 months before its obselete, while I mine say half a bitcoin a day!

this is not working for me!

visited about 6 hours ago  and tryed to claim the 0.025 coins, put in my address and now 6 hours later there is not 0.00000025 in my account

went back to your site, this time waited the 300 secs and when I try to claim it says

"sorry.. your IP exeeded the limit.. try again in 12 hours!"

1 )  did I get the coins first time around?

2) why dont you tell people not to try again for another 12 hours THE FIRST TIME!

Feel free to move if this is the wrong place.

Ive been lurking around here at bitcointalk.org and reading my ass off

for the last week or so (Total time logged in: 18 hours and 58 minutes. == reading my ass off to me! )

Ive noticed that people donate coins to each other and I got this idea.

What if people donated a small amount of coin to me, say 0.0025

my maths head tells me that this is a very very small amount and I couldnt buy anything with it and a LOT of people would have to donate before it amounted to any substantail amount.

Also *ALL* donations will go to the EFF peeps   Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors without Borders)

But thats the whole point! So why do it?

Well it means I can learn a few things,

.) how to setup and use an eWallet

..)how to use blockchain.info to learn how to check where coins come and go to/from

...) follow the transactions of my coins stored on my eWallet with blockexplorer.

....) Get a buzz actually using Bitcoins Wink

.....) Anyone got any ideas of what else I could do?

Fell free to suggest anything that I should do or change to prove Im not a SCAMMER or to make it impossible for me to scam others (but not actually to kill the experience outright! )

Regards

EDIT: just added eWallet address!
EDIT: user FreeMoney pointed out my errors! hence update
: as of  June 22, 2012, 12:04:22 AM  Balance: 0.0002 BTC

suitable for mining?
by
CoinDiner
on 20/06/2012, 19:16:44 UTC
So Ive seen this PC for sale in a local free ad paper and just wanted to know is it any good for mining.

It has a Xeon 5680 processor ( the net tells me that this is a high end processor (if not a little old! ), 12GB Ram , ATI 6870 GPU + Nvidia GTX 470 GPU , 120GB SSD and 1000W PSU

Is it any good for CPU mining ( or is that long dead now )

Is the GPU up to it for mining? after reading around here Im guessing I will need another ATI GPU and will have to ditch the Nvidia (  is this completely true? )

would it be possible to mine using the CPU   AND   the 1 ATI GPU?

or should I just forget it and get a QUAD FPGA

I think from reading here that FPGAs are nearly dead now thanks to ASIC units, but the ASIC units  are going to cost me an arm and a leg ( and I need both my arms and legs Tongue )
