Re: How do you deal with loss?
by

on 11/05/2017, 21:54:53 UTC
I usually wait. I do a lot of high leverage trading though so if it moves to wrong too much I lose everything. I tend to try and earn my money back quickly and I take on greater risks. Not a good thing.

Re: So, why did Bitstamp suspend fiat withdrawals?
by
Dangolbery
on 08/01/2015, 03:41:42 UTC
Because the only time these exchanges actually realise they have had bitcoins stolen is when their fiat reserves are insufficient and banks bounce peoples withdrawals.

They're then like "umm fuck, our fiat doesn't match our coins" and shut everything down followed by quickly going insolvent.

Re: [2014-07-24] World’s First Airline to Accept Bitcoin Misses a Big Opportunity
by

Was probably a forced backroom deal type of thing that there had to be the same fee on btc as credit providers.

I imagine visa/mastercard and all those guys would cancel your account otherwise and then the only way to buy a ticket on your airline is bank transfer or bitcoins. The big dogs still have everyone buy the balls.

And if you look at their card they are actually in partnership with visa so visa would have just said keep the fees the same and we'll allow you to accept btcs.

Re: $300 or $800 next?
by

on 26/03/2014, 00:23:17 UTC
Pfft $300 will never happen.

The bottom is $570, despair bottom is no lower than $380 (short lived price). Buy anywhere below $570 to be in the money. Set some buys at $400ish if you want to try and hit the bottom.

No i'm not going to tell you how i came up with these numbers but it's science.

Deal with it bears.

How can the the bottom be $570 when we were below $570 just a day or so ago?

FUD, despair, gox.

All temporary.

Hence the despair bottom price.

Actually now i've thought about it i'd bet some btc's that it is Gox behind it.

Gox's entire backend relies heavily on TX-ID and as such they'd have to recode their whole site essentially. So either spend weeks fixing your code or just spoof the whole networks TX-ID's and force others to 'fix' bitcoin code.

I don't get spoofing TX-ID's for the whole network. Why not do it just for yourself so you can try and duplicate your coins from an exchange instead.

Doing it network wide is obviously just an attempt at crashing the market so the attackers can buy in. Well that or it's Gox doing it as a little tantrum over the fact they got cleaned out by someone using it.

It's not a real attack and gains very little besides market manipulation, gives Gox an air of legitimacy however.

Re: Cryptsy supporter getting screwed for over 36 hours, WTF is wrong with CRYPTSY!!
by

on 11/02/2014, 01:35:20 UTC
Cryptsy for me has been all over the place, one minute everything works perfectly with deposit/withdrawal's going through within seconds and then a couple hours later your lucky if a trade goes through.

I think it's due to the infinite amount of coins they have up there. At peak times they would get a fuck load of trades/deposits/withdrawals.

I believe it's 'awaiting your reply' when a support guy has opened/is working on your ticket. Because i had it say awaiting your reply and then probably an hour later my problem was fixed. A little comment "I'm looking into your issue." or something like that would go a long way and would only involve a CTRL+V on their part.

Re: Recommended fix for Mt. Gox’s withdrawal problem caused by transaction malleabil
by

Will this double the withdrawal time?

At least it's better than no withdrawals. But i doubt they have the bitcoins to cover the current balances of their customers at this point in time. They're probably going to be doing arbitrage from their exchange to the others for a couple weeks so as to make back the money that the hacker stole. All under the disguise of 'waiting for a technical update'. Once they have made enough coins to cover their customers balances they'll probably implement a fix like this.

I've been waiting over 5 days for my 1.87BTC.

My withdrawal meets the criteria of a small transaction and a long time since trying to get it.

IF they put all their coins up for sale right now, what would the price drop to?

They could put $3million worth on bitstamp and the price would be $0.01/btc.
They could put $17million worth on mtgox and the price would be $0.01/btc.

So they would completely crash bitcoin.

It's about time people start realizing that all the massive growth our civilization experienced in the 20th century is mainly thanks to cheap and abundant fossil fuels. Energy is still abundant, in fact it's more abundant thanks to renewable energies, but it's far from cheap. Energy is getting more expensive all the time because energy demand is growing higher and at the same time energy sources with high EROEI are becoming more and more scarce.

Coal is the only energy source that's truly competitive with oil and it happens to be the most polluting energy source available. Honestly I have to laugh at any arguments that support an overall growth scenario for this decade. The whole decade is a time of fundamental decline. Perhaps next decade things will truly look brighter, maybe slightly earlier if we start an accelerating change in our energy production and consumption patterns.

France has a fusion reactor coming online in 2018-2022.

But yeah the rest of this decade is a wash, it's going to get worse with the greatest depression starting in 2015.

easy - use a crystal ball.  Wink

Crystal ball? What is this nonsense?

Just ask the all-knowing one.

It says that the price will go to $240 before diving to $40. Remember, this is what it said. Take it as a mountain of salt.

For it to hit $40 the NSA would have to come out and says they are going to focus all their resources on destroying Bitcoin.

That gives me an idea on how to get cheap coins, if i can fake some news articles.
