Board Mining (Altcoins)
Re: Official FutureBit Moonlander 2 Driver and Support Thread

I'm trying to mine a Scrypt-N coin that is currently on par with LTC in terms of intensity, but I'm getting 100% share rejections.  It's looking like the difficulty of the coin or pool is too low... The ASIC is mining in the millions range and the pool is calling for lower:

Code:
[2018-02-06 23:23:54] Rejected 030410ce MLD 0  Diff 1m/488u (low difficulty share of 0.00)
 [2018-02-06 23:23:55] Rejected 062cc4b2 MLD 0  Diff 632u/488u (low difficulty share of 0.00)
 [2018-02-06 23:23:55] Rejected 00102c2b MLD 0  Diff 61m/488u (low difficulty share of 0.00)
 [2018-02-06 23:23:55] Rejected 02271fdd MLD 0  Diff 1m/488u (low difficulty share of 0.00)
 [2018-02-06 23:23:56] Rejected 0538cb7a MLD 0  Diff 748u/488u (low difficulty share of 0.00)
 [2018-02-06 23:23:57] Rejected 00d70fca MLD 0  Diff 4m/488u (low difficulty share of 0.00)
 [2018-02-06 23:23:58] Rejected 03a9fadc MLD 0  Diff 1m/488u (low difficulty share of 0.00)

Is this an actual difficulty issue, or is the ASIC not handling Scrypt-N even with intensity the same as LTC?

With even old KNC Titans getting new firmware to handle Scrypt-N, can the Moonlander 2 handle it?

Difficulty is more than 10X 4X what it was when we were first promised delivery...  So if we were to receive 10 4 times as much hash power as we first ordered I'd consider that to be full compensation.  Obviously that won't happen, so anything less is getting less than we paid for.

What's the target block time?  First post says 10 minutes, but blocks are posting every 30 seconds to 4 minutes.  We shouldn't be anywhere near block 39500 if it were 10 minutes and mining for only 28 days.

  • The idea of pool resistance due to indivisible block rewards is novel, I'll give you that one.
  • The rarity isn't really there, 42 coin did something similar in that regard.  Technically there will be 700 million 'coins'.
  • No TX fees allows people to DDoS the chain with spam, even a 1 satoshi fee would prevent that but it's tough when that's a whole block reward.
  • Where's the wallet??

Source code and downloads have been taken down, and the network has not sent blocks for a few hours now.  A few peers are one protocol version ahead, 70003 vs 70002 but that version is not available.  What gives?

EDIT: NM, posted right during the relaunch edit.

I've got 14 CPU cores hashing away in their spare time...  Not going to cry over a lost $8. Smiley

But if the servers are actually rooted, how can we guarantee that the site is truly 'locked down'?  Depending on how much access they have, can't they just take it out of read-only mode and drain more accounts?

I would agree.

And keep in mind that as a percentage of the total number of users, the majority of Bitcoin users are not investors... They're young techies who have more than likely never traded on the stock market even once. I believe these folks are cashing out for Christmas... These aren't investors cashing out, they're your average person who put $100 in and are now seeing $10,000. A few hundred percent of gains is just too tempting for most folks, especially around this time of year.

How am I just finding out about this now!

Great software, I haven't traded with it yet but I'm all set up.

Any plans to offer backtesting functionality and/or MACD/EMA indicators?

Thanks very much for your hard work!

-Obviously each miner will pay for itself to run since they use quite a lot of power and also to avoid confusion where miners get auctioned at a later stage so that the fee is final

So the miner is auctioned off once it becomes unprofitable?  Are the funds from that auction distributed to the shareholders? That would actually be a neat little incentive to hold out for at the end.

I know there are lots of threads about hubs, but what the heck would we use for 50 sticks that's both cost effective and reliable...  5x 10 port hubs etc?

Even without hubs these bad boys are barely able to break even any more...  Add hubs to the mix and you're really screwed.

Mine until unprofitable then resell for an ebay premium?

I'll hold onto mine in case there's a difficulty crash, but it's always an option that you can work into your roi.

Has a difficulty drop ever happened? I'd figure unless they decide to make more bitcoins available that it would be the only way to make a difficulty change.

Difficulty went down a little bit at the beginning of 2013, it scales up and down with available hashing power.  Hard to believe it could ever go down again but who knows. Smiley  Increase the difficulty too sharply and people will start to exit the mining game, which will lower the difficulty and bring people right back in.  It's a self-regulating system.

EDIT:  Just brainstorming, but could someone with a sizable percentage of the network's hash power manage to game the difficulty system?  Power up enough hashing power to total, say, 25% of the network, mine until difficulty is too high, shut down, wait for a drop, repeat?  Unless it's more profitable to run that 25% all the time vs playing with the difficulty number.
