Cloudmining really isnt the best way. Like others have said its a good way to lose your coins if they scam. I'd either try trading or just hold bitcoins as a long term investment. If you have patience it hopefully should pay off eventually.

Re: Bitcoin or Gold? What would you pick?
by
Dick Valentine
on 18/08/2015, 08:38:50 UTC
of course I chose gold, gold prices will always increase

yeah sure, you must have missed when gold was at 1900+ and has suffered a big dump that brought the mineral to almost 50% loss in value

sry but i always look at the all time chart and not at yesterday or tomorrow value...gold is doing really bad by this point of view

What about Bitcoin $1242 down to $256 now, doing a lot worse than gold - about an 80% loss

Gold is on the verge of a new bull run, just wait and see Wink

Gold doesn't have much potential for a decent profit though. bitcoin might be down but In the long run the potential for gains is still huge. I think the price in 2-5 years could be in the thousands, though only time will tell. I guess it depends how much it gets adopted by the mainstream or certain industries.

I find it funny that people are so obssessed with trying to 'grow' their bitcoins. Bitcoins will do that naturally over time if you have patience. Don't do anything risky by investing in dodgy schemes and just concentrate on earning more bitcoins in whatever way instead.

Gold is dropping hard, the price fell 4% to as low as $1,088.05 an ounce in Asian trade, the lowest since March 2010.

It is being blamed on China:

Everyone seems to like to blame China for everything  Grin. I'm still going to stick with bitcoin. In the long run bitcoin will far succeed gold.

Re: [2015-07-05] Bitcoin is switching from investment commodity to everyday use

I'd still say far more people are holding it as an investment commodity at the moment than actually spending it. People can see the long term potential in it so they are reluctant to spend it but likely will in the future when adoption is more widespread.

Re: Is dev's identity absolutely needed to be known ?
by

Hello

What is your opinion on this subject ?
Do you think that every dev should provide all of his personal infos, such as driving license, payment bills, etc. ?

Because if you look at bitcoin case, we don't know who is Satoshi Nakamoto... Also a lot of other serious coins which are in the top 10 of the biggest capitalizations have been developed by anonymous dev's...

No. I wouldn't want to provide all this information as it opens you up for attacks and trolling, but providing these infos could give a false sense of security any way. They can still scam you or use fake documents so it doesn't stop them from scamming.

Lots of international frioendlies n today. I'll be watching the Ireland vs England game that's on shortly. I predict 1-1 draw.

IMO Barcelona may win by 1 or 2 goals but of course anything can happen in football, Juventus are good at defending and they are sure to try not to accept a goal so it should be exciting..

Juve might be good at defence but they're missing Giorgio Chiellini remember. I think it will be around 3-1 or 4-1 to Barcelona. I think Barca will get a few goals at least but we could see more. I think Juve were lucky to get as far as they did to be honest.

Well done you got the score right.

Anyone been watching the Womens World Cup? The opening game was quite entertaining. Some great shots that hit the woodwork but the game was goalless until a penalty in injury time.

Well we might be losing the truck drivers but that will open a new job up again... Full Service gas stations.  Unless they make a robot that pumps the gas into these automated trucks  Undecided

I don't think it'll be difficult to make this happen, though they'll likely be supplied with enough fuel to make the journey and get refilled at their destination. Most cars in the future will run on electricity and/or solar energy any way.

These guys simply don't quit. They are either really persistent and don't mind earning their share from time to time with these things or everyone is lying when they say their demands are not met and they don't pay them.

I wonder what's really their motivation...

Every website or forum has to learn to counter these sorts of attacks and it is pointless paying them to stop because if you pay then they will either attack you again or someone else will when they know that you pay up.

Re: How to save money.
by
Dick Valentine
on 27/04/2015, 15:35:54 UTC
Best way to save: don't spend and just save. I think most people in the western world could easily save up if they just cut back their spending and cut out things they don't need.

I'm buying things second-hand mostly. This helps a lot Smiley.
I could prepare my own food and bring it at my job but I'm too lazy for that  Tongue.
I think the best step is : work remotely (digital nomad) and go live in a cheap country. In Europe it's Portugal, Lithuania etc...
SE Asia is good as well. Cambodia is providing unlimited resident visa for ~300$ a year for example and you can live there quite cheap.

That's a thing I want to experience but now I'm a young wage slave in Tokyo with an emergency fund of 500 000 yens.

I'd like to save up a lot of bitcoins for the next couple of years with the hope that I can go live in a cheaper country and live off them someday. If that doesn't happen I'd at least like to go traveling on my bitcoins.

Re: cop shoots man in the back
by
Dick Valentine
on 11/04/2015, 09:31:49 UTC
I'm not usually for mass surveillance, but I've seen reports of successfully altered behavior by cops who wear body cameras. Perhaps it would be a good idea to have all cops wear such cameras as a mandatory prop as long as they're on duty.

It is a good suggestion to keep the cops under surveillance. But is it practical to make all of them wear body cams? The initial cost, as well as maintenance will be huge. And there is no guarantee that they will not damage / tweak them. Also we need more manpower to manually monitor all of them.

Is it practical to give them all guns and tasers and pepper spray. Cameras are badly needed to stop them from murdering innocent people or just straight up abusing their powers. I'm not from the states but even in my country the cops abuse their powers and hassle you for no good reason. Of course you must comply and if you give them any attitude back they just abuse their power even more to hassle you further. Cameras will really keep them in check and help them with their own safety as well as others.

10. DarkWallet: Untraceable bitcoin wallets - this can be bad obstacle for mass adoption I think. Mass media and people who think that bitcoin is just tool
created for hackers for criminals would have a solid argument when this service will launch...

Why would it be a bad obstacle? Most of the public already thinks bitcoin is untraceable or anonymous so this wouldn't be any different. I don't think darkwallet will become mainstream and only have a niche use amongst criminals and super libertarians but it's there if you want to use it.

3% fee, what a rip-off!
I see huge opportunities for shops to accept BTC in Kenya.

3% is tiny compared to what they get charged by rip-off banks. I really hope more people become aware pf the huge savings there is for the remittance market as that would be huge for bitcoin.

Re: Will you buy Bitcoin within the next three months?

I won't be buying anything in the next three months or likely this year. I plan to hold for a bit to see where bitcoin can go.

I myself am having real trouble with this at the moment.  My first buy was last week at 228.  I know, it was a great price but I wish I bought more.  Sad  Would you guys recommend buying in again at the current price?  Thank you for any replies to this message.  Smiley

I'd buy personally but only you can make this decision.

Re: Will Bitcoin Eventually Kill Facebook?
by
Dick Valentine
on 09/02/2015, 10:34:06 UTC
To be honest I don't think that Bitcoin has any bearing on the fate of Facebook, or visa versa.
Same, but the Winklevoss twins said it will be bigger than Facebook, and I think they are on the right track with that prediction.

It has the potential to be bigger as they're two different entities. One is a social network and the other is money. Bitcoin wont kill Facebook but another decentralized social network may.

Re: I'm a sceptic, convince me!
by

You should risk some small affordable amount and hodl in a secure offline wallet. In 10 years you will either badly regret for not doing it or you will have lost some small affordable amount of money. Its a good time to buy in.

This is actually pretty good advice. If you're skeptical buy a coin or two and hold it as an investment and see where it goes. If bitcoin goes tits up you've lost $200 or so. If it goes the other way you've made a nice little investment. You don't even need to purchase any coins either as there are plenty of ways to earn them from this forum.

Re: How to Search for Address
by
Dick Valentine
on 05/01/2015, 13:59:32 UTC
Is there a way to look up any address online by typing the first few characters?

Say I want to find 1ESvmL4k3wHsthoADGD5EQXmyaCCHnYQei; it would be great to type in only 1ESvmL and then get the entire address.

Obviously such a service would only work for addresses that have at least one transaction.

Not sure if I understand you correctly but if you copy and paste it in your browser in something like blockchain.info your browser will remember it so you only have to type the first few characters every time for it to come up. You might want something different though.
