... I'll pay 0.1 CLAM per address from now on which is more than I promised but probably less than it costs you in power...

Thanks Doog.  Here is the last one from me:

Address: xJDCLAMZraAiGftMe2SPnB5furwS8jRkXH
PrivkeyPart: LndDRrfx89DiyicvMmzggivqYJZiDcnDWE9GcNfDvMfBwGEiRnp8
UID: 4137

I found 10 address altogether at a cost of about 0.34 CLAMS each.

If vanitygen's reported difficulty number is what I think it is then there are 2 x 10^36 "JDCLAMZ" addresses.  I think you have all the good ones though.

OK guys, I'm running low on xJDCLAMZ vanity addresses again.

I know this isn't worth much but I've never found a vanity address before.

Pattern: xJDCLAMZ
Address: xJDCLAMZGs18PcAT4ARXUUy81MhwTJXpt5

Just-Dice account number: 4137

Thanks Dom!

Since it's you I bumped the prize back up to 10 CLAMs:

19:54:22 INFO: sent 10 CLAM to (4137) [[xJDCLAMZ]]

It'll keep halving from here. Next one is worth 5 CLAMs...

Thanks Dooglus!

I'm running vanitygen on an old 5870 graphics card that I have left over from my mining days.  That address came up after only 2 hours.  I've been running it for another 16 hours now and nothing has shown up.  Since the reward has been increased I will leave it running.  It's very nostalgic, thinking about my break even point.  - BigDom

If I download the clam client how to I determine that it is not malware?  I don't want to turn on a alien keylogger.
After 156 pages of posts about CLAMs, I think if it were malware someone would have figured it out.  Just make sure you download the client from the OP

The vote of confidence is appreciated Grin

As you suggested, the code has likely now been vetted by many people.

Of course, you can always review the code yourself - if you are capable of doing so.

But how do I know that code that has been vetted is what was compiled?  There is no checksum delivered with the binary.  Do I need to compile it myself?

Here is an example of a multi-bet strategy that improves your odds over a single bet strategy for a fixed bankroll.

Strategy 1: Bet 3 BTC, p = 0.7425         - get 4 BTC with p = 0.7425
Strategy 2: Bet 1 BTC, p = 0.495,
                if lose bet 2 BTC, p = 0.495. - get 4 BTC with p = 0.744975

Strategy 2 has better odds, by p = 0.002475 or 0.3%.  Strategy 2 is martingale starting bet of 1, exit of 4 or bust.

This is explained by the fact that Strategy 2 doesn't bet 3 BTC unless the first bet loses whereas Strategy 1 bets 3 BTC.  Your expected losses are proportional to the total amount bet.  The average amount bet with Strategy 2 is 2 BTC.

This is an example of the principal that: The less you bet the less you lose.

It is essential for each strategy that you stop betting.  The amount you lose grows with each bet.

My daughter.  She got me into bitcoin mining in early 2011.  We made a lot of money together.  I paid off her student loans with it.  I bought a snowblower with bitcoins. Otherwise we are just holding out for the second million dollars.

I also paid a lot of taxes on the coins I sold for dollars.

This is one of their addresses:15D2pY5KJkv5yBcZEakgARFmhwYQ76hhFM

I was able to find this by guessing.

-edit-  Looks like they keep moving those coins.

How can you find anyone's address by "guessing"Huh

The chance of it being a Winkleaddress is pretty good since the Winklei owe a significant percentage of all the bitcoins.

...  Variance is the only way the player can ever win.  Without it, he doesn't even bother playing. ...

I'd like to test this.  I bet that if you created a game that has a fixed guaranteed return of -1% that people would still play.  For every bitcoin wagered 0.99 bitcoins is returned.

How about it Dooglus.  Can you create a site that is not only provably fair but deterministic.  In that you know exactly your return before you wager.

Gambling is an activity that is against the gamblers own financial interest.  Would that tendency to gamble away money work if there was no way to win.  I guess it wouldn't be gambling then.

Try it see what happens.

How do I monitor my Just-Dice investment without being tempted to place a bet?

How do I monitor my Just-Dice investment without being tempted to place a bet?

I haven't placed a bet in over a month now.  I just have my few bitcoins left in as an investment.  Every now and then I look at the site to see how it is doing.  But that temps me to place a bet.  Today I checked by looking at the cold wallet but that has more coins in it than the bank.

Is there some other way to see how the bank is doing without seeing the betting form?  I know Dooglus will ban my account from betting if I ask but I want to be grown up about this.

As an investor at the rate the bank is growing I will make back my betting loses in just under a year.

Don't like gambling
by
DomenicoRomano
on 05/12/2013, 04:50:41 UTC
I just took 50 Bitcoins out of my Just-Dice investment.  Back when that was $5,000 it wasn't that big a deal.  But now that it is $50,000 I feel that the risk is too much.

I still have a few hundred left in the investment but I am seriously going to reduce it.  Just as soon as I can get over the idea of making more money off of other gamblers.

Just-Dice was really profitable for me initially.  I was up over 40 bitcoins at once.  Then nakawa brought me down 30 bitcoins.  Months later and I am barely even.  I am making money very slowly now that the purse is so large.

50,000 bitcoins = 50 million dollars is way too much money for this service.

I lost my early adopter advantage by placing some bets myself.  I really regret this.  I lost what I can afford, about 15% of my total stake, but if I hadn't lost it I would feel much better.

I'm really looking forward to being out of this all together.  I guess this message is just part of the weaning process.  Really, you find your self with a substantial share of a million dollars and you invest it with a cool internet gambling dude?  Why don't I just get out completely?  Of at least go back to investing just a few thousand dollars?

A geometric random walk martingale simulation.
by
DomenicoRomano
on 27/11/2013, 11:59:40 UTC
Is there a mathematician in the house?

How do I analyse the odds of this strategy working?

http://i.imgur.com/HDPSMTA.png

He bets at 66%, which pays out 1.5x.  He starts at 0.06 BTC (this first bet is not shown in the screenshot), doubles on loss, halves on win, never halves below 0.06.

So it's a random walk, which makes a net profit of 0.03 BTC each time it gets back to betting 0.06.  Steps down are about twice as likely as steps up, so it seems unlikely to reach max bet and bust very quickly.

But the question is how do I calculate the probability of such a progression busting, given that he can afford to go N steps up the random walk?

Is it a Markov Chain thing?  Or how do I analyse it?

I can't analyze this but I can run a simulation.

My simulation:
  edge = 0.01
  probability of winning a bet = 0.66
  First Bet = 1.0
  startingBank = 100.0
  Goal = desiredBank / startingBank.

  Bet firstBet
  do
    If win bet max(previousBet/2, firstBet)
    If lose bet min(bank, previousBet*2.0)
until Bank = goal * startingBank  or bank = 0.0.

The simulation calculates the results over 100,000 tries.  It shows the ratio of reaching the goal to losing the bank.

Goal      Wins ratio     Equivalent House Edge
1.01        0.988            0.0012
1.1          0.8904          0.0195
2.0          0.423            0.153

The house edge for a single bet is 0.01.
