Re: How to claim Bitcoin Cash from paper wallet?
by
Eebertay
on 28/07/2017, 23:55:14 UTC
Ok, i just wanted to confirm 100% because im a paranoid fuck:

I am a paper wallet user, after the hardfork and bitcoin cash is born:

- wait for bitcoin cash supported wallet to appear
- use my private key to sweep my BITCOIN CASH balance onto the bitcoin cash wallet.

No, for my retarded better safe than sorry question:

Will doing a wallet sweep for my bitcoin cash balance affect my bitcoin balance?

- i know youre NEVER to do partial sweeps of a paper wallet
I think i know the answer to this question but figured i wanted to be 100% sure

Thanks for any help!

What would you do if Bitcoin price crashes? Below $200, would you hold on to the Bitcoins you are having..or sell them?

I would get a hard on if it crashed below $200 ( and was still technologically stable)

What are the true advantages of ETF? Are we sure that we need it?

BATS is one of the largest equities exchanges in the country.

An ETF would introduce A LOT of investors to BTC. A lot of mom and pop types who have no clue how to buy it. It is another step in legitimizing bitcoin.

It will be huge and if an exchange lists us, the price will have a historic move up

Bitcoin is the top dog till further notice.

ALL crypto currencies trade INTO bitcoin, this is not a debate

Also, NO alt coin comes CLOSE to bitcoins brand awareness and market penetration...nothing.
This can change obviously, but as of now...this isnt close

I do think there will be a number of coins that will live side by side with bitcoin, they will need to offer something.

For instance, bitcoin as a store of value vs bitcoin for every day use.

I think an alt coin can not compete with bitcoin as a store of value BUT one will have to rise up as an every day coin, and that would mean it would have to play nicely with bitcoin.

Do not buy any btc or alts on margin if you do not know what youre doing.

Just read up on margin agreements on a few trading platforms and realized it is adding to the wild volatility.

Dont do it guys unless you know what youre doing.

These crazy price drops are likely a result of it

Bitcoin and crypto currency is slowly starting to buzz in mainstream US news, it isnt big yet but i noticed a few publications focusing on it now.

Was wondering if there was anyone in japan that could give us some idea if the "bitcoin hype" is real? Also, if so have you purchased anything with bitcoin?

Really curious

Bitcoin hype? Isn't it evident that's why they passed a Bitcoin law. They even have it installed in malls and they will soon overtake every country back in using Bitcoins. There is not much buzz in USA who says so? An etf was sent for approval but was rejected had that been approved that would have set usa no 1 users. You don't need to be in Japan to purchase with Bitcoins, you can purchase anything and everything. You can buy vouchers and buy your desired goods. Look in this forum also you can buy yourself goods using Bitcoins.

I am asking for eye witness accounts of how bitcoin is being implemented there rather than relying on US coin media hype.

Re: Bitcoin and deflation
by
Eebertay
on 05/05/2017, 14:46:05 UTC
I was thinking about this idea of deflation / inflation and i realized i am seeing this from the perspective of fiat vs bitcoin

I dont think this line of thinking is really great but am unsure of which direction to go.
This is the first time in human history we are dealing with a truly "global" currency.

I remember reading someones post in these forums of how he had saved up.012 bitcoin, which relative to him and his purchasing power in his country, this was an immense amount. I believe he stated his yearly earnings were about $250 usd.

With this example in mind, lets consider if bitcoin (hypothetically) did become the worlds reserve of wealth.

In terms of purchasing power, how would we perform transactions that addressed the parity of say buying a coca cola in his country vs the US?

Lets say in the US it was .001 (for arguments sake), because of the 1:1, there would be a complete disparity.

Unless i am missing something and not thinking this through.

Any thoughts?

I was thinking about how great bitcoin is vs combatting inflation but what about deflation?

Say bitcoin gets lost or if there was a malicious intent of destroying / hoarding bitcoin, are there any mechanics within bitcoin that address this?

Am curious but this is one of the largest problems i could think of if btc were ever widely adapted

What would happen to FOREX if BTC is adapted?
by
Eebertay
on 02/05/2017, 15:33:47 UTC

I started to think about forex if btc slowly became adapted (or some other coin)

What would happen to forex?

Say a mcdonalds hamburger cost .01 btc (for arguments sake) in the USA, this couldnt be the case in say venezuela.

Am trying to think theough how an adaptation of btc would affect forex because if there is one currency, that would create a lot of disparity

What are some thoughts?

Re: Why does the mainstream media ignore altcoins?
by

To OP

I think the main reason why mainstream media ignores alt coins is because to the average person, crypto currency is way too hard to understand. I think the day your grand mom can understand it, is the day alt coins will be mainstream.

We will get there but are not there yet.for now, BTC is our poster child

Re: Is Bitcoin money?
by
Eebertay
on 18/04/2017, 17:16:40 UTC
Bitcoin isn't money unless the Government says it is. We would have have to wait till the Government approves Bitcoin.

This is partially true:

BTC IS money, to a small portion of the world.

In the US (where i live), it is NOT money (according to my govt)

Case in point:

Say i am a store owner and someone wants to buy a computer i have advertised for $1000, for $1000 in cash. I tell them no, gtfo. They can actually get various police / courts involved to enforce this

You claim to live in the US but you don't know the laws of your own country

I refer to specific laws regulating the trade and currency in which the trade should be made. The US dollar is legal tender in the US, but that just means that the government is obliged to accept the American dollars as a payment "for all debts, public charges, taxes, and dues". But that doesn't mean that you, as a private seller, can't refuse to have business with anyone (for example, if he wishes to pay you with dollars), and that basically means that the purchaser cannot call police to force you to accept payments in the US dollars

Quote
Private businesses are free to develop their own policies on whether or not to accept cash unless there is a State law which says otherwise. For example, a bus line may prohibit payment of fares in pennies or dollar bills. In addition, movie theaters, convenience stores and gas stations may refuse to accept large denomination currency (usually notes above $20) as a matter of policy

You may want to read what the legal tender status of the US dollar actually means

Now it is a piece of paper that is an IOU that the government says, "this is our property and we are giving it to you so you can purchase things in this country"

Which property is owed exactly, a piece of paper? And why should government owe you anything in the first place? Typically, it is you who owes them some amount of money, for example, taxes

Hmmmm...i dont think you know what youre talking about.

It is illegal here in the US to deface, destroy and alter money.

Also, i think the concept of fiat being an IOU is way above your head

Now consider that same computer i have for sale and someone comes up to me and says they want to give me 1btc or even 1000 euros or pounds for it.
I can tell them to gtfo without incident because the us govt does not recognize any of those currencies.
