Re: CPU only/mostly coins?

this launched like 3 hours ago, who knows what it'll turn into but the algo is cpu only at the moment. I'm sure there will be minerd, then gpu miner to follow in a few days you know how these things go, but for now its cpu only.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=775289.0
BSTY coin, yescrypt algo.
my 3930k at 10 threads gets like 800 hash per min..

That's what I really dislike in the coin when devs changed it from cpu-only coin to gpu mining coin.
IMO, if you've launched coin with cpu mining than don't switch to gpu mining .

you cant exactly control it, there was a host of coins like heavycoin and a run of new weird algorithms a few months ago, every one was cpu only until SGminer developers/forkers made it GPU mineable.  any new coins listed here will likely have a gpu miner sooner than later. it takes some variable to be harder than a gpu can handle that a cpu has no problem.. Ramhog used by the defunct shinycoin started up 16gb ram threads of scratchpad to keep itself cpu only while it lasted..  but its not a copout that a cpu mineable coin becomes gpu mineable though progress.

edit* add props to the other mining software devs asidefrom the SG team and those who fork them

also... having something cpu only for a start at least allows participation by cpu miners who otherwise would skip a coin.  i feel like this adds to a healthy distribution

I agree with the last statement about the possibility to join cpu mining coin at the beginning. Starting with cpu mining coin can attract people who dislike gpu mining and that's good for promotion

I remember my first UNO purchase about year ago, on coinex RIP Smiley, more than 2k for 2.5BTC, it was my biggest investment. Friends told me than that I am crazy investing in some new "made just to cover asics expenses" coin, but after a year community prove opposite. Strong development and good team.

Still have strong faith in it and wish all the best for community.

Keep it that way! (as I keep my UNO's)

Cheers!  Grin

I've lost about 1000 UNO on coinex, stupidest move ever. I tried not to think about it anymore, but 1000 UNO! Sad

Well, that is the difference btw good investor and bad investor. At first, everyone could think that you are insane and wrong to buy cheap coins, but after a long-term they would see they, actually, they were wrong to loose the opportunity to invest in the right time

I must admit that after this thread the credibility of things he is willing to tell me are zero. But I doubt digitalindustry would be successful in his ponzi scheme as there is nothing new to the crypto currency world and if he tried he would fail.

I can tell a list of users here on the forum who has caused a lot of trouble from my point of view. digitalindustry is one of them, and the second one would be darkota  - I think I didn't surprise anyone with such statement. He is one of that users who write in a bold and use capital letters to attract attention and prove his words, that's better to use evidence to prove your point of view than write in a bold

BTW, I have 619 farm$hares for sale, simiar to this, one share is 63kHash, this mean I have ~39Mhash for sale.
Share are transferred inside ltcgear instantly if you have registered username.

Ever since the account was created this user had dedicated to agitating the crowd making scam accusations.

The user claims to be a poor Chinese immigrant trying to study computer science and has repetedly asked for donations for different projects he said to be working on.

He has gone from being completely new to cryptocurrencies to asking funding for up to 8 different projects in less than 2 weeks. It would appear as if there is a trend with this user to search for altcoins that have recently been launched to ‘beg’ for donations. Donations where apparently issued to them in response to one of the projects, the address given to it not seem to lead anywhere at this point:

The user often claims to perform work (mostly php) while not getting paid only to find they have been scammed. Several times he has been unable to take responsibility for donations claiming he was the victim of yet another scam.

In the past the user has offered to sell their bitcointalk account.

He has been accused of being a scammer and carrying out other illegal activities through the forums.

Stackoverflow: http://stackoverflow.com/users/2401804/r3wt (a remarkably non-asian asian)

It is important to note that Monero shill accounts seem to be highly motivated by finances.

Re: Blowing the lid off the CryptoNote/Bytecoin scam (with the exception of Monero)
by
EndlessWin
on 22/08/2014, 10:27:11 UTC
I have carefully read this publication several times and, you know, I’ve got the impression that someone is trying hard to impose upon us his point of view. Someone wants us to think in a certain way.

I’ve tried to look at the whole situation as a bystander and posted below there are conclusions I’ve come to:

1. It's obvious that someone is trying to discredit the CryptoNote technology along with all the CN-based coins.

CryptoNote team has published official statement yesterday https://cryptonote.org/news/archive

Quote
Greetings to all the members of the CryptoNote community and those who are interested in the technology. This message is our response to the recent developments and speculations within the CN community. Before we get to the point we’d like to reassert our firm commitment to the long-standing philosophy behind CryptoNote. Everything we do is for the sake of technology, and we take great joy as we progress towards our goal.

The initial efforts at CryptoNote development go back as far as 4 years. Some great minds were involved in its creation. More than two years ago the first implementations of CN technology were unleashed on the world of cryptocurrencies and from that moment forward the community that was forged around our vision and values grew exponentially.

What is currently going on within the CN community hardly resembles the harmonious state of mutual respect and synergy that once ruled over the CN coins. Someone clearly is instigating hostility. Moreover, the CryptoNote website has recently been exposed to illegal access by malicious users, which is absolutely unacceptable. Some data stored on cryptonote.org have been vandalized and is now temporary unavailable until the internal investigation is completed.

Having thoroughly reviewed the situation around certain CN currencies, the CryptoNote team would like to issue the following statement:

• It is the official position of CryptoNote that our technology has been created to bring positive changes into the current financial system by providing tools that have never existed before. The technology is what concerns us the most. We are not to be distracted or misled by the speculative rumors and strongly suggest you to follow suit.

• CryptoNote is not a cryptocurrency and has not been designed to be one. The only CryptoNote currency that the CryptoNote team officially endorses is CryptoNoteCoin, which has zero commercial value and serves educational purposes only.

• We consider all the name-calling and finger-pointing that has taken place on certain internet discussions as inappropriate and harmful to further development of the CryptoNote technology.
Over the years CryptoNote has had to overcome a great number of obstacles but those striving so desperately to deter the advance of new technologies are doomed to fail. We are strong believers in the power of innovation and there is no way to stop the CN development.
Discussion thread: https://forum.cryptonote.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=265&p=883#p883

Do you see this bold text? Think about it.

2. Someone tries to cause distrust and enmity between Monero and other CN-coins. "Divide et impera" is an old maxim.
"with the exception of Monero" in the subject of this tread proves it better than everything else.

The question is: who is that "someone"? I have some thoughts on topic, but I don't want to publish them until I have enough evidence.

Thank you for pointing out to the CryptoNote's statement. I do not understand why the waited so long to comment on the issue, but it seems that the guys are sometimes totally offline for some time.

The claim of whitepaper vandalization is approved by the recent research of two whitepapers. So I think I should agree with the CryptoNote's position. Someone is trying to destabilize the CryptoNote platform by discrediting each and every CryptoNote currency. What's more it's being done based on the invalid whitepapers.

I'm not saying that Monero is behind the scenes, but the "exception" is so outstanding that you can't help but notice it.

Has anyone tried looking into the whitepaper v.1 by the way?

Great news folks!

Today Minergate.com pool introduced merged mining option! You can mine FCN with any CryptoNote coin you want.

It's a first MM pool implementation there is and we're very grateful for it!

this is indeed a great news!

at long last merged mining is getting the recognition it should get! i hope it won't take long for zerowolf to implement a merged mining. it's really really underrated feature. it brings more protection in the cryptocurrency world - increasing difficulty is good for every network, not only fcn.

i think it was bitcoinbear who made a point earlier about the protection that merged mining brings with the difficulty increase - protection from the 51% attack, protection from the sudden difficulty increase/decrease when huge miners come and go etc.

let's bring merged mining to the people - it's a great feature and should be treated as one

Was talking to bitcoinbear in PM he said I should post here to the ideas forum.
There was this open-source project called DarkMarket which allows for anonymous and decentralized trading of goods and services, with an escrow feature by which a trusted third part (based on voting system) would arbitrate disputes or approve transactions.
Since then the original developers all have moved on to other projects except for one of the original people.
The DarkMarket project has re-branded itself to OpenBazaar (twitter is @OpenBazaar ). http://www.coindesk.com/darkmarket-alternative-launches-friendlier-title-openbazaar/
I wonder could Fantomcoin or other reps from the CryptoNote community try to create a strategic partnership?
OpenBazaar has not launched yet, originally they were just going to use Bitcoin for transactions, and anonymize the transactions with DarkWallet (if I am not mistaken). http://www.wired.com/2014/04/dark-wallet/
One of the key elements to a coins success is its eventual adoption for actual trade of real goods and services, and merchant adoption.

OpenBazaar source appears to be all up on Git: https://github.com/OpenBazaar/OpenBazaar

Or alternatively, maybe the CryptoNote community could create their own decentralized marketplace where CryptoNote coins are the medium of exchange of choice?

that's a nice idea. cryptonote main feature is absolute anonymity - it sure suits to the OpenBazaar. even darkcoin dev talked about ring signatures and how is it the future of the anonymity. (if i recall correctly) i think bitcoinbear should look into it.

Hey! I just read Poloniex trollbox and there's information that all the coins mined before January 2014 will be destroyed. Moreover this process is already going.
See this:

Does anybody know what's going on?
Where did you get those screenshots?

I've been chatting with my friend, he pointed me to the trollbox and sent the screenshots. I've seen the posts myself however.
Your friend is the one who posted those rumors. You can tell because when someone types his name the text turns green. Can you get him to show us the emails?

I didn't know it, I was thinking green is for your own posts. So he's either trolling, or is in very tight contact with developers. I'll try ask for the email screenshots.

Re: [FCN][MRO][QCN][BCN] GUI miner
by

@ amphibian

Hi there.
I want to try to solo mine FCN with BCN/QCN.

FCN+BCN I managed to start hashing, but hash is rather low for old Intel E5200 (2 cores, no HT) 2,6 H/s... I didn't run a daemon at background. After it, I tried to star FCN+QCN and got the message "no donor block..." again no any daemon in background. Returne to the first case which I managed to start hashing but this time, the same message...

After it I tried QCN and none with quazarcoind running in background and hashing started. Then I tried FCN+QCN and both corresponding daemons running in the background and it started.
Didn't want to start FCN+BCN cause as we all know BCN is memory killer...

So, what's the proper way?
Could you tell me do I need to place SoloMiner in specific diretctory like in donor's or acceptor's?
Do I need to run daemons of any in the background?

From what I've read here, I guess the answers are no on both questions, right?

Hey!

For QCN (and MRO) you pretty much have to start a deamon, since it doesn't have a remote node that you can connect to.

You can safely start FCN+BCN hashing with a remote node tho. There is no need for BCN daemon that eats up all the memory.

Also, you don't have to put SoloMiner in any specific place.

Let me know if you have any more questions. Smiley

Cheers.

let's hope MRO and QCN developers will provide you a remote node - that would solve a "memory" problem. (currently it's present only in bcn but who know what future holds)
