Crude oil price could go back to $100/barrel. Looks like there will a major attack on Israel from Iran after 7 Iranians were killed in Israeli air strikes in Syria.

Yeah... Crude prices will definitely go to three digits and if there is a war, then we can expect crude oil to hover around the $300 per barrel mark. And regarding the Iranian retaliation, I don't think that it will be a direct one. Iranian agents are likely to attack Israeli agents and properties abroad.

All of these proxy wars, its so hard to decipher the battle field these days. And the fact that oil prices are rising is very telling

Re: Bitcoin Are Crazier, Speculative Things Says Bill Gates
by

Bill Gates, Microsoft founder comments about bitcoin on May 7th. He said that Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are “kind of a pure greater fool theory type of investment”.

Read news here: https://coinpedia.org/news/bill-gates-bitcoin-crazier-speculative/

I think people are getting bitcoin and alts confused. Its pure laziness to do the research if you ask me. I would admit I doubt Bill Gates has the time to delve deep into crypto but if thats the case he should probably think about reserving his judgment until he gets to grips with the technology. Anyway hasn't he spoke positive of bitcoin in the past?? Undecided

Re: Why people want ETH to over come BTC
by

Why some people want the Ethereum to over come Bitcoin in the near future? Is it because they make profit from ETH or what?

I think its very short cited to be extra bullish on eth to the point they want bitcoin to fail. If Ethereum goes up in price and succeeds it will probably signal a new "alt season" which to me is no more than pure speculation and gambling. If you look at the fundamentals bitcoin is still head and shoulders above the rest, just based on its network effects and the fact it hasn't started in a bootstrapped, artificial way!

Re: Bill Gates and Warren Buffet are the newest critics of Bitcoin. (From CNBC News)

What do you think is/are the reasons why the two of the world's most richest men doesn't support and is against Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency?

Bill Gates I cant really say a bad word about him I actually think he has good opinions on emerging tech, he missed apple and seems to be missing the value of crypto but you cant always be right. With Warren buffet I think he is just old fashioned and has failed to spot any of the new emerging companies. But he's 90 so I don't really blame him

...price goes to $1000+ in the next 2 months.

What a big mistake that would have been haha. I suppose it takes guts to "HODL" over long periods of time.

I would sell my bitcoin tomorrow if there was a gun put to my friends or families head. I cant really think of any other reason.

Re: Will Bitcoin Experience More Price Volatility in 2018?
by
Ethan Manson
on 08/05/2018, 09:48:58 UTC
by David Drake

In 2017, Bitcoin recorded the most unprecedented gains, making it the most sought after cryptocurrency in the market. As a result, most people are buying Bitcoin for speculative purposes with the hope of cashing on price increases.

Having risen to a high of nearly $20,000 in mid December, Bitcoin experienced high volatility towards the end of 2017, raising the question of whether its price could plunge to below $10,000. But as HOQU's Co-Founder and CEO, Alex Shmonov notes, high volatility is nothing new to Bitcoin.

"The price of Bitcoin has always been very volatile even on fake news as many people buy this asset for the sake of speculation and profit. The reality is that the entire crypto market can flop by 90% and this will be normal. We saw this with Bitcoin before. But after some time and after the dust has settled, prices will return to new heights, because progress will go further and people will understand that the problems that caused the drop are resolved or almost solved," he says.

Even so, certain factors fuel the volatility of Bitcoin, and one such factor is government statements on cryptocurrency regulation. On Thursday 28th of December, 2017, Bitcoin prices plunged by the double digits following the announcement of fresh regulations in the world's third largest cryptocurrency market, South Korea. Going by the trend set by this southern peninsula, there’s no doubt that more price swings in the cryptocurrency market will follow.

"The volatility in the price action mirrors the uncertainty in world regulation. Each positive statement from a country or exchange sees a boost in the Bitcoin price, and each proposed clampdown produces a price drop. Changes in regulation is the key price driver for Bitcoin and that won’t change in 2018. I think price volatility will increase this year, this will not be a time for the faint hearted. Reduce your exposure to price volatility by diversifying a little of your portfolio - now," says Linda Leaney, CFO at Globcoin.

According to Marcus Vandea, CEO of Playfold, Bitcoin has a highly volatile nature. But even with its price swings, it’ll be hard for its value to drop below the $10,000 mark.

"High volatility will always be an intrinsic part of Bitcoin, with 30% shifts that always happened but are now more noticeable because of its high value. It’s difficult to believe that Bitcoin will plunge below $10000, as it is now more popular and desired than ever. But extreme value swings will keep happening and will keep discouraging the light hearted investors," he says.

Bitcoin braved the turbulence in 2017, increasing its value from $1000 in January to reach a high of $19,700 in early December, before closing the year at about $14,000.

I think we will experience price volatility all the way up to the hundreds of thousands. Its the first new emerging asset arguably since the gold rush and golds price was unbelievable volatile for a good few decades!

Re: Is Dogecoin a Good Investment for Today?

Dogecoin does get a bad rap however when trying to build a diversified portfolio you are usually on the look out for alpha assets which basically mean uncorrelated assets in order to offset risk. I actually think dogecoin is one of those coins. It doesn't seem to be effected by bitcoins ups and downs as much as many other of the coins. So its probably a good investment to an extent.

on 02/05/2018, 16:58:32 UTC
I was under the impression he was referring to the current transaction capacity without the full implementations of segwit, lightning, schnorr signatures ect. Which I think if im not mistaken is between 3-7

The current transaction capacity INCLUDES both segwit and lightning, both of which are currently actively being used.

But they are nowhere near full capacity though are they. Lightning is only a few months into implementation, anyhow again the guy mentioned that 'other' updates were also required to reach the million or billion transactions he was referring to that could potentially be possible. Seems you are being a little picky

Did you know...Bitcoins current transactions per second capacity is roughly 7 and Ethereums is 20. Visa can do 24000. But do not be disheartened. Visa has a 60year head start. With state channels and other updates billion transaction per second systems are muted to be possible so watch out Visa

You failed to including Lightning Network in your calculations. You also failed to include SegWit in your calculations.

Your numbers are invalid.  Try computing again.

Is lightning network not a state channel?

Is the capacity "roughly 7"?

Re: Environmental Problems

I think one of the biggest overlooked environmental issues is the effect busy shipping routes have on marine life who rely on sonar and other still unknown senses to communicate in the ocean. The vibrations these ships send through the ocean have been attributed to a massive decrease in whale populations in some areas.

Did you know...that you never actually have possession of your bitcoin even if you hold your private keys in a wallet. Private keys are nothing more than an access code to a ledger account on the blockchain. A wallet is probably misleading, it is more of a key chain where you store keys to unlock and transfer bitcoin within the blockchain.

False.

There are no "accounts" on the blockchain.

Did you know...that one of the most difficult things to produce in nature is a random number. You need random numbers to produce private keys. Stanford use a camera pointed at a lava lamp to produce data points which turn out to be great random number generators.

A camera at a lava lamp? That doesn't sound very difficult.

Did you know...Nick Szabo, the man many think is satoshi Nakamoto (unproven) was the person who coined the phrase "smart contract"

And is almost certainly NOT Satoshi Nakamoto.

Did you know...Bitcoins current transactions per second capacity is roughly 7 and Ethereums is 20. Visa can do 24000. But do not be disheartened. Visa has a 60year head start. With state channels and other updates billion transaction per second systems are muted to be possible so watch out Visa

You failed to including Lighning Network in your calculations. You also failed to include SegWit in your calculations.

Any more did you knows that people may find helpful/interesting?

Did you know that the average person posting on Bitcointalk.org has no knowledge about what they are posting.  They frequently just make up nonsense. It is important to make sure you are reading posts from a reliable source before you believe or repeat what you've seen written.

Is lightning network not a state channel?

Re: Can Eth Hit 1000$??
by
Ethan Manson
on 28/04/2018, 22:57:49 UTC
I have given up trying to predict prices in crypto aha. The market is too illiquid at the moment. If a couple of huge investors decided to get back into eth I could 100% see it getting back to near $1000. What I would say is everytime I have started to get uber bullish we have dropped, and when bearish we seem to rise. So my answer to you with this in mind is that no we can not hit $1000 any time soon. Hopefully this will mean we will end next month at 2k lol

The more media outlets the better in my option! I think there is space for a dedicated news channel in the space. Maybe have four live hours of news a day, these four hours could repeat twice taking up 8 hours of the day. In between you could maybe post self made documentaries in the way RT work. Too much live air time inevitably leads to poor journalism in the pursuit of new stories so a 24 live channel is unnecessary in my option but a 24 crypto related channel would be good. You could contact some good youtubers and publish daily videos from them on the channel. No matter what you do good luck.

Re: My three picks i'm super bullish on.
by
Ethan Manson
on 26/04/2018, 09:47:38 UTC
1. Iota - great support from the industry. Some advantages against Blockchain and DAG, e. g. no fee for transactions

2. Modum, real usecase for the logistics industry. First partner: Swiss post

3. Waves, the real better Ethereum

They all look like good projects BUT I can't really get bullish on IOTA that is already 6BN marketcap...I mean where does it have to go?

Yeah maybe on Waves but again its not cheap.

Modum I will have a look at....

To be bullish and make huge gains you really need a project under 100m MC.

I agree with you there on IOTA. Allot of coins have already amassed huge huge market caps. In order to see the gains people are wanting they would have to reach near bitcoin levels of market capitalisation!

BTW its agony looking at IOTA cause I planned to buy in on the ICO but somehow it drifted past me without me realizing it.  Cry

MetaCert is also a good one. This one ism primarily a phishing scam blocker. Its a browser extension. If you look at the recent myetherwallet hack, the wasn't even a myetherwallet hack it was a server they used that got hacked that they have no control over I think these types of instruments will become even more valuable. Remember a url is just a link to an IP address. Even if the URL looks identical the IP address you are getting sent to may be different!
