how buy BTC from bitcoinexchange.cc with a moneygram?

Exactly how do I buy BTC with a moneygram?

At moneygram’s website I see many options but none that allow me to immediately transfer money to bitcoinexchange.cc online. Everything seems to be the purchase of a card that I wait for or a piece of paper that I mail.

I thought I could do something electronically from me to moneygram then me to bitcoinexchange.cc.

Please clarify.

Account recovery request submitted at 2011-06-22 13:06:50 GMT.
Your account recovery request has been accepted.
You will be able to access your Mt.Gox account once the site opens again.

Haven't been able to log in on multiple days.

Do I submit a 2nd claim?

It appears that someone who performs audits on our system and had read-only access to our database had their computer compromised. This allowed for someone to pull our database. The site was not compromised with a SQL injection as many are reporting, so in effect the site was not hacked.

No, you weren’t hacked, you employed people with as much responsibility, professionalism, and sense of duty as you: none.

It makes it OK that it was "someone else" and not Gox? Earlier, Gox blamed each victimized user even as the complaints mounted.

Re: DIRECT DOWNLOAD LINK FOR LEAKED MT. GOX ACCOUNT DATABASE (CSV FILE)

I changed my password around 8:30PM USA west coast time June 16, so it was after that they got the data.

That puts its between Sunday the 12th and 16th that the data was stolen.

It couldn't have been before the 16th because I made up the password in the .csv on the 16th.

In post #75 above we have a link to a hash generator. I checked my "before" and "after" passwords. The hash in the .csv represents my "after" password, i.e., I created it at 8:30PM USA west coast time on the 16th. The data loss could not have occurred before then, my new password didn't exist.

http://blog.zorinaq.com/?e=55 says "...Contrary to previous claims from the MtGox owner, this indicates that many accounts had been compromised for at least days, if not weeks, before today's attack. This may explain some of the reports of Bitcoins being stolen from MtGox accounts in the previous days and weeks, as reported on the forums."

Something doesn't add up. My password on the posted .csv was created on the evening of June 16 west coast time. If blog.zorinaq.com is correct, then there were at least two separate seizures or losses of user lists from Gox, the first being long before Friday's release.

What am I missing? I am not the smartest rock in the forest.

on this site you can create your md5 hash if you are not sure which pw you used or just want to check if it is in there:

http://www.insidepro.com/hashes.php?lang=eng

newer hash starting with $1$:
enter password and salt. you will find your hash at "MD5(Unix)"

salt is between the second and the third $ character:
$1$/gKxns/A$42b18btDR4VVUJR8hOEqW0

hash goes after the third $ character:
$1$/gKxns/A$42b18btDR4VVUJR8hOEqW0

I am in not affiliated in any way with the site and can not tell if they are trustworthy. So only check if your password is weak or you have changed it everywhere else.

When the Gox problems first came up a few days ago I went in and changed my password. They have the *new* password. I have $4.65 in Gox and the new password is unique to Gox. It feels spooky but I guessed I dodged a bullet...unless the hoodlums have more info Gox isn't talking about.

Thanks for posting that link.

Re: What happened to the Silk Road thread?

You cut out relevent portions of my post.  I didn't say the discussions of Silk Road here involved buying and selling drugs, I said the discussions on Silk Road involve buying and selling drugs.  it tends to over shadow any sort of practical or philosophical discussion of the site.

The equivalent here were the constant requests for an invite, but that is not so bad when the discussion is on the regular internet.  on TOR you get more 502 errors than connections and having that page that you just reloaded 15 times turn out to be people talking about how good that weed was, when that is not the info you were looking for, is quite frustrating.

OK, I misunderstood your meaning. I see it now. Sorry about that.

I am not as computer literate as most of you. I have some dumb questions. Please be patient with me.

1. Is the *only* data that has been lost the user names, email and hashed password? Is there any way these people can get at my wallet? (I had nothing at Mt. Gox so I have no worries about that)

2. Can they get at the account from which I sent money to Mt Gox?

3. How could this have happened? I expected a person handling this kind of money would be secured like my bank website. On the other hand, why did everyone trust him?

4. Is Mt. Gox giving any accountability such as taking steps to secure what information has not been lost yet?

5. Luckily I used my Mt Gox password only there. What steps should I take to secure other data I have?

thanks

I don't think this board was the right place for discussion of silk road...when that conversation mostly involves people buying and selling drugs it is even worse.

I followed the SR threads and never saw anyone talking about buying and selling drugs. You should have reported those posts to a mod. Buying and selling controlled substances is illegal and discussing that here probably violates this site's UA.

I think the one thing people are overlooking is that Silk Road violates the forum policy of no illegal activity. Silk Road is clearly illegal regardless of your personal opinions on its operations. Although this will leave a bad taste in a lot of peoples mouths - it was the right thing to do for the preservation of the community as a whole.

The discussion was about SR, not about illegal activity. Perhaps SR facilitated illegal activity but discussion of it is legal (in America, anyway). There is no legal foundation to say "SR is illegal." Under American law, only actions are illegal. It would be more logical to say that discussion of the thefts from Mt Gox are prohibited here.

In almost every case of suppression, tyrants cite the lager good, the safety of the nation, the sanctity of the larger group as the reason for suppression and the reason that laws against tyranny should be ignored. Just this one time. For the greater good. Once the danger is passed, we''l be back to warm and fuzzy just like the old days.

This site reminds me that a large fraction of "libertarians" I have met are fascists wearing the clothes of liberty. They just want to lord it over others like most people do, they just use a different deceptive language to hide it.

I can't get on either, I've been timing out for a while now. Just found this message from http://www.silkroadmarket.org/.

So the server went down unexpectedly today. This was very unnerving because we thought it had somehow been seized or something terrible like that. Fortunately it was just some kind of glitch and we were able to reboot. Everything has been backed up and is totally current, but we are not going to turn the site back on for a couple of days while we work out a way to prevent such problems. We are terribly sorry for this inconvenience, but we want to provide the best service possible, and random outages just aren't going to cut it. We know it must be terribly frustrating, but we are taking the better-safe-than-sorry approach and we hope you understand.

That was, when, on the 14th? The 15th? Long time for a server to be down.

Re: MtGox, Secure?
by

on 17/06/2011, 15:01:43 UTC
Mt Gox security seems to be nil but the owner speaks only about user passwords as if suddenly in the last few days a huge number of Mt Gox users turned to schmucks and allowed their passwords be lost.

What is the common factor in all the thefts? Mt Gox, but I see nothing from the owner about his security. I see a number of posts by users who lost BTC but have gotten no response from the Mt Gox owner. Who says user password security is the problem? Mt Gox. There seems to be no accountability and the users are presumed to be at fault even though they are crime victims.

Noob here with a noob question. I bought 9 BTC on Mt Gox just as I was picking up on Gox' security problems. I moved the BTC to my wallet. The status is "unconfirmed" and I went back to Mt Gox and changed my password there. Am I safe?

1. The BTC are *mine,* right, even if the transfer is not yet confirmed?
2. Once they are confirmed in my wallet, no one can get at them, right? (unless my computer is hacked in a more general way...I mean, the wallet is secure, right?)

thanks for your help
