trusted exchange for this one? since I deposited some BNC to Hitbtc and wasnt credit to my balance. also a friend tried to deposit and got the same problem.
Deposits in Poloniex are disabled and the other exchange on this post dosnt have volume.

There were problems yesterday with my deposits on HitBTC too. However, as of now all Bytecoin deposits I've sent to HitBTC are now credited to my account. I'm not sure why Poloniex deposits are disabled.

Right.

Good thing Rias-who-deposits-to-hitbtc-every-day is here to clear things up. Otherwise we'd all be scammed.

Satoshi would never unload all his coins in one go, all would be for nothing.

He can short his own coin and also unload a million on the books at the same time, creating both a huge profit and enormous financial tidal wave.  You get both profit and a black swan event.  Hardly a "for nothing" waste.

As I stated, the odds of him just losing the keys are not really that high, and if he wasn't planning to do anything with them, he most likely would have sent them to a black hole address to increase faith in the project.

I would say there's at least a 50% chance of those coins moving some day in the future.  This makes him a trusted 3rd party, kind of invalidating his own whitepaper.

Re: LTC halving but price going Down
by
G2M
on 26/08/2015, 09:53:04 UTC
the natural outcome of a halving is neutral. the value won't magically double just because the reward halved.

I think price will start to climb slowly because less ltc will be dumped on a daily basis by the miners.

This part literally makes you an idiot

The only way price would magically double would be if the total circulating coins were suddenly halved. But who would do this ... the amount of produced coins were suddendly halved? Fucken scumbag satoshi? Big fucken difference. Even, then, what retard decided that the total ltc in circ is halved? The price would be less than quartered.
.
The only way price would magically double would be if the circulating coins were suddenly halved..
This part is literally what he already wrote.

I mean .. should I give you a dollar and a quarter? Better yet, should I give you the cardboard and a marker?

The price will continue to depricate toward usd, because cc's are fucken retarded otw.

How TF is 'halving' even a thing?

Because some piece of shit decided he didn't want to code a continuous gradual deprecation?

Fuck off, I'll buy you when you're a tenth of a pence.

How many sia has each siafund received to date?

you can see in the block explorer how much SIA has been spent on the file contracts total which if I remember was like only few hundred SIA in total so far so they have received practically nothing and won't start receiving until mass adoption of file contracts begins.

Taek I request you add this mentioned block explorer to the ANN post, b/c my idiot self cannot find it for the life of me.

Either way, a few hundred is pretty neat.

To think, I've done literally nothing, only to come back and find that I now have a few hundred more Sia over a month or two without even having to buy them. Neat.

http://explore.siacoin.com/

I remember wrong actually the total spent on file contracts is ~42000 SIA so if you would own 1% of SIAFUNDS and the reward for SIAFUND holders is 3,9% of all file contracts you would have earned up to date about 16~ SIAcoins with your 1% holdings of SIAFUNDS... as far as I understand... so about 1600SIA have been rewarded in total to all Siafund holders. Considering block reward is 280kSIA from mining that is very puny amount.

LOL you crazy nuts rented out 96 GB of totally unregulated storage for .0002 USD / GB? Come ooooon it's gotta be a little more than that.

Like, 100x more.

Nope. We are in early stages all storage rented out have been for testing purphoses. Market will set the correct price eventually when file contracts start mass adpotion.

Oh right, OFC market dictates the price  Cool

It's pretty cheap though, a pretty good price for anyone looking for file hosting.

How, exactly, do I host a file though?

This is news to me, usually PLX is nothing but prompt and well up to the task as far as decent-volume markets go. I'm sure they'll get in order soon enough. Maybe, in the meantime, you'd be better off starting an OTC thread/market?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Best altcoin to be able to handle lots of transactions?
by
G2M
on 26/08/2015, 06:32:40 UTC

How many people on this forum have actually progammed with punch cards, used a teletype to communicate with a computer that had 2 KB of RAM, or got an error message from the mainframe of a major Canadian University because the program they wrote required over 2 MB (the total memory capacity of the mainframe)? I have. To put things into prespective a punchcard holds 80 bytes, and an 8in floppy holds 80 Kilobytes. Now today does it make any significant diffrence in the cost of sending an email that has an 80 byte or 80 kilobyte message? 50 years ago sending an 80 byte message over the telegraph network would cost around 10 USD (in todays dollars), while the other hand sending an 80 kilobyte telegram would have cost around 10,000 USD in todays dollars.

Actual wisdom on the nature of change and humanity doesn't go out of style!  Smiley  It also takes decades to earn.  Who knew?

I think that the "old men" of today who have witnessed the entire rise of computers from the single-byte age to modern times are some of the most valuable resources on the planet.  Having grown up in the 80's right as computers really hit the fun part of their exponential curve I feel about half as wise as you, and I can appreciate your perspective on how things might play out in the future.  You have seen the top minds of each decade repeatedly spout off nonsense about "how things really are" only to soon be silence by the march of technology and connectivity.

lol this reminds me of my old college professor telling us about the IBM XXXX units he'd have to replace with like a ton of ESD protection.

He went "now in my day, hard drives literally 'crashed' " referring to the read head actually colliding with the surface of the drive every so often.

Now, there's solid state ftw.

Re: LTC halving but price going Down
by
G2M
on 26/08/2015, 06:20:06 UTC
LTC is about to come to its first halving. The natural outcome would be for the price to go up, however since a month ago after the pump and dump the price seem to be slipping downwards.

You see, this logic is dumb. Miners don't dictate price, buyers do. Less to buy just means money can be spent buying other worthless shit. How do shitcoiners not understand that yet? Shitcoins are infinitely scaleable when it comes to creation, so WTF would anyone pay more because miners bring less to the market? WTF? Huh

LTC has some features that make it far better than bitcoin so I personally think we should see it go up!

Um, no. LTC has one feature: it's not bitcoin. Up, fortunately, is not dictated by you, or people like me would be broke. But that would be insane for me to let you be rich, right?

What's your take on Litecoin?

My take on litecoin is to hold exactly enough to not GAF about what your take on litecoin is, get it?

Re: [Guide] Surviving the fork, or How to double your bitcoins (or save fiat)
by
G2M
on 21/08/2015, 02:12:51 UTC

A lot of people own bitcoins but only few understand how Bitcoin XT drama will unfold and what should be done to survive the aftermath. Both the sides (Mike+Gavin tandem VS other coredevs) are bad guys. They have economic (and psychological) incentive to push their plan through and they do NOT care about us. We, ordinary bitcoiners, should help each other so below you will find a guide how to save your money.

1. Move your bitcoins to a wallet controlled only by YOU. If it's a webwallet like BlockChain.Info it's still strongly recommended to download original Satoshi's wallet software and start downloading 40 GiB of the blockchain. If you leave your coins somewhere on the Internet you may be unable to double them once the fork happens.

2. Wait for the fork. Try to enjoy this time, the price will likely go down and down and down, but as long as it's above 50% of the price you paid you are safe. While you have nothing to do install software which works with Bitcoin XT.

3. After the fork find someone who owns coins not existing on the both blockchains and ask them to send few satoshis to your account, do it for the both blockchains. Those lucky owners of coins that don't exist on the other blockchain will likely be miners or guys who managed to get their transaction not included into the other chain. I expect that the market will react to the fork by selling such special coins slightly more expensive than their face value.

4. Find exchanges that work with different blockchains and send your coins TWICE by combining your original coins with coins obtained on the previous step. This will prevent a transaction on one blockchain from inclusion into the other blockchain.

5. Sell your bitcoins on the both exchanges for fiat and watch market reaction. Once the market decides which blockchain wins send fiat money to the corresponding exchange and buy bitcoins. If you are a skilled trader you may try to exchange BTC for LTC or another altcoin instead of fiat. Do it at your own risk, I don't dare to predict how altcoin markets will react to the fork.

PS: Once again, it is very important: your bitcoins must be controlled only by you when the fork happens, otherwise the wallet hoster will do the explained trick by himself and will feed you with a legit looking excuse.

Edit: Maybe it's not the best strategy, see https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1157679.msg12197629#msg12197629...

How to survive the fork:

1: Sell your XBT now.
2: Rebuy your XBT 4-5 fold on both chains with the same equivalent in fiat, about half and half, in about 5 months.
3: Continue holding your XBT forever, only now you have 4-5x as much on two XBT chains.

Oh FFS go die in a fire you fucking shit bag.
Were you refering to my post? If yes, dare to explain with what exactly I hurt your feelings?

lol nah, hadn't even read your post. still haven't

sbc is what really got me into crypto.

its personal, and i would have rather the thing just have been left well enough alone.

for anyone that hasn't been around: SBC has already been 'raised from the dead' once already, when some asshat hacked artos' profile and caused a bunch of people to yet again lose a lot of money after pumping it and scamming them.

it was also notoriously played against doge during the doge pump on 4chan to cause an interboard war to spur doge hype.

it's had a long history, and has died quietly.

this sad relaunch is on my greylist now.

So a warning to anyone happening to stumble on this now: Expect to be scammed. Might not be anyones fault either.

Pretty sure the cats still in the bag on this one.

A hundred million dollars was created from nothing recently, and about 2% of that traded today. Blocksize debate is moving nowhere, and same goes for most of crypto. Both these on top of the lack of any real garnished attention toward the cryptosphere for damn near two years now.

That's a time period in which 99% of crypto exists for a lot of people. Certainly the majority.

People aren't seeing gains, reason to be here, logic to any or most of the original design goals has been tossed out, interesting discussions often end in some nutjob not only telling you all about but also redefining pretty much any noun to fit their own purposes.

I guess there's plenty of reasons to finally start focusing on the ground from the top of all those turtles. Nobody would blame anyone at this point.

But still, cats in the bag.

I sure would find it awkward to navigate a distinct market if I was buying gold priced in silver, or silver priced in gold, or bread priced in hot dog buns, or mustard priced in ketchup bottles, and especially steak priced in ham.

We really need a solid real USD market before the years out. I'm sure not just talking about releasing a website .. It takes months to establish liquidity and eliminate security bugs.

I almost got heart attack when I looked at bitcoin's price.
What's going on? Is it the block size debate?
If it is, it is important to start marketing actions to bitcoin community so that they will not abandon the crypto completely. Monero can potentially save the crypto world.

It was glorious.

Initially I figured someone was dropping eth profits for fiat. But the suddenness of it all lends more to the story farfiman posted.

Just a freak crash. I can add a new feeling to my list now though.

That feeling when the btc market bounces between 180 and 250 in an amount of time long enough to at least sign into a website and click 'buy'.

'BTC 20-40% off sale' makes for a really good day.
