2. No tax for those whose take home (salary) is less that #800,000 per annum.
3. If your business does not generate #50,000,000 yearly, your business will not be taxed.
4. No more tax for food, medicine and transportation. (the poor will finally breath)
do you know what this means? if they are not going tax people that are earning bellow 50 million naira per year, then that means that they are not going to tax at least 70% of Nigerians because more than that population does not earn anything that is close to that amount.
i have not seen this information anywhere and you have also not provided a link to support this post which makes it possible that it is not true. but if for any reason this information is true, then there is certainly no two ways about it because it will not be implemented at the end of the day. the government we all know of are looking for means to tax citizens higher that what they are already taxing them. they are not going to eve cut down on what they are taking from people up to this amount you are talking of, i find it hard to believe this.
You have a point, worthy of note is the information passed. In the order of your observation...
If they are not going to tax people that are earning below 50 million...
You mixed that up, it is businesses below 50 million not individuals.
Yes more than 70% of Nigerians will not be taxed, maybe that will open their eyes to the reality on ground: There is high rate of unemployment and businesses are folding up as a result of high cost of running the said businesses.
You have not seen this information anywhere, maybe when you read it on here, you will know I did not cook it up
https://punchng.com/things-to-know-about-nigerias-new-tax-laws/ ...because I actually do not just make up stories, plus you can also DYOR.
The last part of the post asked if this could be achieved or it is just a change of uniform.
In the end, Nigerians are waiting for what will come out of this all important reform.
Like we all know, the pressure on Nigerians financially is all time high, the pressure on Nigerians security-wise is heart-wrenching, as much as I can not find a sweet spot to point at since inception of the previous administration to the present, we can not, not watch and see where this reforms will take Nigerians as regards taxing.
However, Nigerians could actually use a breath of fresh air, even if it comes in as reduced taxation. But then again it will be so if the government have he interest of the people at heart and is willing to hear the cry of the masses and cushion the effect of the dire situation that the nation was plunged into, about a decade ago.
