The crypto space seem to be spontaneously transforming, it is more interesting to note that, this transformative phase is rooted in regulatory clarity around stablecoins, rising institutional adoption, and an active altcoin market.

Although, BTC/ETH will always be leaders, tokenization and DeFi integration with traditional finance appears to be the definition of the next wave.

This is because Goldman Sachs and BNY Mellon have launched digital tokens that reflects shares of money market funds and will be issued through BNY’s LiquidityDirect platform.

While Goldman’s blockchain system will maintain the digital record, it will effectively create a digitized “mirror” of traditional fund ownership which will bring faster settlements & better collateral use.

Institutional investors can use these tokens as collateral while they benefit from quicker, automated settlement processes, which means greater access & democratization.
The digitized format could open money market assets to broader investor pools, potentially extending fractional access beyond current limitations.

However, critics warn that tokenization may introduce crypto related risks, such as cybersecurity vulnerabilities and regulatory gaps, especially for retail investors.

What should we expect?
How will this affect decentralization?

Why The Many Hacks on Exchanges?
by
Glowy
on 20/07/2025, 22:31:48 UTC
Indian exchange CoinDCX has suffered a cybersecurity attack, resulting in the loss of $44 million. This incident comes exactly one year after Indian exchange WazirX suffered a $235 million hack.

CoinDCX Server Breach: User Funds Secure
In an X post on July 19, CoinDCX CEO Sumit Gupta said that the crypto exchange suffered a server breach to one of its internal operational accounts. Gupta said that the affected wallet address is only used for liquidity supply on a partner exchange. Therefore, all assets in user wallets are safe and accounted for, with INR withdrawals fully functional.

Furthermore, the CoinDEX CEO states the hack has been contained by isolating the affected operational account. Meanwhile, the value of the total lost assets would be offset by the exchange’s reserve as they commence efforts to track down the parties behind this hack.

Gupta explains that these efforts involve various legs, ranging from an ongoing internal security review to the planned launch of a bug bounty program.

I know that it is not that very easy to be punctual with the updating of all the members that are active in different categories of this wonderful naija local board, i noticed that last monthly overview of nigeria local board hasn't be updated and this month is around the corner to end, and  this particular thread always encourage me to be active and to keep pushing because it always sweet me to see my username being uploaded in some of the charts, like top active users and top merits earner, and  i don't know what might be the course of the delay but could appreciate it to be updated anytime soon.
You are indeed fervent and punctual, this explains your ability to find last months missing update. However, there might be a reason though. This just my thought, am not sure what's up. Or how this is done, I am just observing.

This is a good initiative, especially as the interest rate is not much.
It is prefereable, compared to the many shylocks that will frustrate Nigerians with ridiculous interest rates.
Worse off, is the fact that people get harassed by these loan companies, with no checks.

Someone complained they paid their debt, yet their details were all over describing them as fraudster.

Well Done Floxynice

Where did it go before??

This is normal and we can't say we don't expect the war to have an impact on Bitcoin price so I am surprised why so people are frustrated as the price went down. We all know it was just temporary and shouldn't be a reason for people to panic.

Lol, maybe it took a trip to the war front.

Well, people will always panic because money is involved.

No matter how stable BTC is, a little fluctuation in the market will cause some kind unsettling reaction, or response.

TEXAS FLOOD, Public Reaction & Concerns On The Texas Flood.
by

on 08/07/2025, 21:11:11 UTC
Recall that the flood started on the 4th of July, 2025, death toll is still rising, investigation is on going on missing campers in Kerr County. As at 8th 109 dead, 161 missing.
The 67 year old governor Greg Abott, has assure residents that the search will continue, with all modalities put into active use, and government will not stop until everybody is recovered.
The Texas House Speaker State Rep Dustin Burrows, appreciated the citizens who are supporting by volunteering and raising funds.
Freeman f. Martin, Director Texas Department Of Public Safety says the department will not stop until every one is found.
Major Gen. Thomas Suelzer, Adjutant General of Texas. Says evacuation is on and there are more, helicopter for this, more rescue and support raised to spread the search and help those in need. He said the national guard will not leave until every person is found.

Some say the warning alarm was not sent early by the governor.
However, the argument is that some campers had their phones off, because of the time of the night. As many do not sleep with their phones on. Could this be a valid reason why the flood seem to have taken the people unawares?

My heart goes out to the people of Texas and the grieving families, campers who met their end in the unfortunate incident.

Elon musk is nursing the desire to create a new party and he calls it the American party. Due to the constitution he is not eligible to be president but he can create a party, he made a poll on X about it and got lots of vote asking him to go ahead. His fall out with the current president Donald trump is the seed to this whole idea.

Donald trump is also promising that the party will embrace bitcoin according to Cointelegraph

https://x.com/cointelegraph/status/1942138874534178892?s=46

The love for Cryptocurrency is burning and one thing politicians has mastered is using what the people love or what will get to the people that why we see them paying some of our lived celebrities to vote for them or we see them eating with the less privilege or buying things on the road.

The Nigerian 2027 election is heating up with the coalition being the new leading topic. Nigerian has a strong presence in the list of countries that loves bitcoin and I anticipate that presidential candidates will try using bitcoin to gain voters for themselves. I Dey advice that even as we like bitcoin make we judge candidates by their works and action and not because they one embrace bitcoin.

It is unfortunate, that the new coalition party is already fighting. This development is disturbing as it will weaken the party and divide it against itself.
Worse still they appear unreliable to the citizens and that will demoralise the citizen.
Either ways it think it is a strategy already on ground by the incumbent to break that coalition even before its arrival.

Yes, there are many people who are afraid to invest or wait for the collapse. This is never the right way to invest. Because all those people who say that they will buy when the collapse occurs, after seeing the collapse, they get scared and are afraid to invest.

Start investing in the first place. If you are scared to start investing, start investing with a very small amount of money and when you can overcome your fear, you can increase the amount of your investment if you want.

Investment is a risk as much as life is. Not too many people have the heart to take certain risks.

If you look at the pics above, the Strait of Hormuz that is to be closed by Iran covers about 20% of the world's oil production that passes through the mentioned countries for the pics I uploaded. 80% of the world oil production still d.

Any increase of price wey go happen, it will be between those countries that their oil passage pass through Strait of Hormuz. As our country no fall into Strait of Hormuz, we come begin to the see price hike for oil production. That one go pure wickedness our government wan give us so because no linkage.

I can tell you for sure na only India wey I know we d export our petroleum products to, wey d affected. Other countries wey we d export our petroleum products to, no fall into Strait of Hormuz.

If Nigeria's oil flows through that channel, it's going to affect Nigeria.
Unless we have other lines through which oil travels to the countries the nation supplies.

There is never an excuse for such a failure to take a backup but in early days keys weren't produced deterministically. They were randomly generated and they needed to take a new "digital" backup every time they created new set of keys which is what happens during mining (each block mined to a new address). Since the process was not as straight forward as writing down a mnemonic, it was easy for people to get lazy and not do it at all.
Even so, this is no excuse. If he had made at least one copy and kept it separate from the original location, the chances of avoiding this tragedy would have increased considerably. The wallet's keypool was updated every 100 transactions (both receiving and change addresses). When using the first 100 addresses, 100 new keys were generated.

He wasn't going to make more than 100 transactions in that period, so he would have been able to restore 100% of the funds if he had made a backup of the file.

As many have said here, he should give up and focus on accumulating bitcoins from now on (he should have accepted this in the first few months).

I know it's not easy, but unfortunately life is like that. We have to accept it and try to start over. Bitcoin is like a train that only passes through the station once... and that's what happened with Hames Howell's story. He grabbed onto the train, but didn't follow the safety rules, and that's why he fell. His story should serve as motivation for us users to follow basic digital security rules: backups and strong passphrases!

Finally He quits! James is done trying to find his lost drive.

His story is constantly changing. Wonder what his story is in the upcoming film about him ?

Did James Howell release his NFT? I believe that he would have more success in making some money back from the loss of his private keys than actually getting all his money back by finding his lost hard drive.

Shower thought. What if he's actually a Bitcoin billionaire with good OPSEC pretending to have lost his private keys? He's probably cashing out today while everyone believes he has no Bitcoin.

That is a valid point, you just made. I am beginning to think why he would not have moved on. And even the thought of inventing devices that would help with the excavation, there is more to this than meets the eyes.

There's also the profit side of things. To give him the benefit of the doubt, if he finds his hard drive, he'll be a billionaire. To not give him a benefit of the doubt, the attention he'll get from his "story" will make him - merely - a millionaire. But both of those conclusions leave him having money, although it would definitely be more preferable to recover the hard drive. It would give him both the billions from the Bitcoins, and the millions for his story. Cool

Absolutely, correct. Either ways its a win for him. Well, I hope that eventually, we will know what comes out of the whole project, as it were.

Re: Nigeria’s Tax Reform Bill, FIRS Now NRS
by

2.   No tax for those whose take home (salary) is less that #800,000 per annum.
3.   If your business does not generate #50,000,000 yearly, your business will not be taxed.
4.   No more tax for food, medicine and transportation. (the poor will finally breath)
do you know what this means? if they are not going tax people that are earning bellow 50 million naira per year, then that means that they are not going to tax at least 70% of Nigerians because more than that population does not earn anything that is close to that amount.

i have not seen this information anywhere and you have also not provided a link to support this post which makes it possible that it is not true. but if for any reason this information is true, then there is certainly no two ways about it because it will not be implemented at the end of the day. the government we all know of are looking for means to tax citizens higher that what they are already taxing them. they are not going to eve cut down on what they are taking from people up to this amount you are talking of, i find it hard to believe this.

You have a point, worthy of note is the information passed. In the order of your observation...
If they are not going to tax people that are earning below 50 million...
You mixed that up, it is businesses below 50 million not individuals.
Yes more than 70% of Nigerians will not be taxed, maybe that will open their eyes to the reality on ground: There is high rate of unemployment and businesses are folding up as a result of high cost of running the said businesses.

You have not seen this information anywhere, maybe when you read it on here, you will know I did not cook it up https://punchng.com/things-to-know-about-nigerias-new-tax-laws/ ...because I actually do not just make up stories, plus you can also DYOR.

The last part of the post asked if this could be achieved or it is just a change of uniform.
In the end, Nigerians are waiting for what will come out of this all important reform.
Like we all know, the pressure on Nigerians financially is all time high, the pressure on Nigerians security-wise is heart-wrenching, as much as I can not find a sweet spot to point at since inception of the previous administration to the present, we can not, not watch and see where this reforms will take Nigerians as regards taxing.

However, Nigerians could actually use a breath of fresh air, even if it comes in as reduced taxation. But then again it will be so if the government have he interest of the people at heart and is willing  to hear the cry of the masses and cushion the effect of the dire situation that the nation was plunged into, about a decade ago.

Re: Procrastination of your Bitcoin investment

As the title of this post implies, procrastination of your Bitcoin investment, as we all know procrastination has killed  more destiny than failure has ever done, most people falls for this easily because they will be saying that the price of Bitcoin is too expensive now, so they are willing to wait a little longer let it dip in price, but once it dip, they still wouldn't invest, they will say that it may still drop further, and at the end of the day, they wouldn't even buy a unit of Bitcoin, so we should try to act as soon as possible in what ever we planned doing, not just in Bitcoin investment.
I can still remember when I had the opportunity to buy Solana when it was $12 in 2023 when Bitcoin was $28k, I said that I will buy it once I receive my salary from a job I was doing then, when I was paid, I was still skeptical about it, so I didn't bought it, in 2 months after towards the end of the year Solana rose to $200 plus, so why am saying this is because of procrastination, we should try to avoid or overcome it by all means, because it kills destiny more than failure does

Procrastination can kill opportunities, especially as it concerns investment. The mindset of “I’ll wait for the perfect time” most times, leads to missing out. Your example with Solana is a powerful reminder.
Many people get caught in the loop of hesitation, waiting for the “perfect dip” or overanalyzing the market, and by the time they feel ready, the opportunity has passed.
The key is not about timing the market perfectly but having a clear strategy and acting on it with discipline. There are times, when starting small and consistency is better than waiting. This lesson doesn’t just apply to crypto, but to many areas of life.

In summary, with effect from January 1st, 2026, there will no longer be Federal Inland Revenue Service, instead you will see and hear Nigeria Revenue Service.

How It Affects You
1.   Tax payment will be digitized and centralized
2.   No tax for those whose take home (salary) is less that #800,000 per annum.
3.   If your business does not generate #50,000,000 yearly, your business will not be taxed.
4.   No more tax for food, medicine and transportation. (the poor will finally breath)
5.   Businesses will no longer deal with multiple tax collectors or redundant levies.

Challenges
•   Will this be implemented?
•   Will this reform be the same in all the regions?

Watch For 2026
•   Rollout Plan: NRS structuring, digital tooling and stakeholder onboarding.
•   Local Government Involvement: Adjustments of state and LGA revenue generation system.
•   Economic effect: Changes on tax-to-GDP ratio and growth in GDP.
•   Social impact: Reduced cost-of-living relief as a result of VAT exemptions on basics needs.
Will this be the sigh of relief for Nigerians or its just a change of uniform?

The war in the middle east somehow rubbed off a great deal on the world's most reliable digital asset, Bitcoin.
Maybe some traders would had bet BTC was progressing to $110,000 before the dip. lol

The war in the middle east influenced the market, then along came the retaliation, which again reflected in the prices of digital assets.

We saw BTC go down in price, going as low as $99,000, within this period.

While BTC, was having a fall, altcions started picking up. This is because, traders quickly turned to altcoins, the result? Altcoins are blooming.

Below are some coins that scaled up. ETH, XRP, SOL, AVAX, TRX, TON, OKB. Which coin did I miss?

It's unfortunate, Nigeria is not positioned for the world and where it is going.
If Nigeria was thinking forward, the war should be favouring Nigeria oil-wise.
But then, even if the nation gets favored from the war by having a surge in oil price and market demands. It will end up in few pockets, either ways it's still a loss.

Bottom line is Nigeria seem not ready for the world

Re: Do you know the timeline of key legislation of crypto in Nigeria?
by
Glowy
on 20/06/2025, 22:08:39 UTC
Back in 2016, the Central Bank (CNN) and the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Commission decided to look deep into Bitcoin after the whole MMM Ponzi scheme mess. Fast forward to January 2017, the Nigerian SEC strictly warned everyone that they weren’t backing any companies or groups dealing with cryptocurrencies. They made it clear that if you got into crypto, you were on your own when it came to any losses.

Then in February 2021, the central bank stepped in and told banks and financial institutions to immediately stop supporting cryptocurrency transactions, citing worries about money laundering and funding terrorism. A lot of people in Nigeria dealing with crypto found their bank accounts frozen, too.

Come May 2022, the Nigerian SEC rolled out new rules for how to issue and manage digital assets. They laid out how financial institutions should handle these assets. Plus, they set a hefty requirement of 500 million Naira (about $362,500) for crypto exchanges wanting to get a virtual asset service provider (VASP) license.

In May 2023, the SEC put out some regulations for digital assets, signaling they were trying to find a balance between completely banning crypto and having no rules at all. By December, they lifted the ban on banks managing accounts for crypto service providers. The central bank noted that global trends showed it was time to start regulating VASPs, which includes crypto.

Moving on to January 2024, the central bank shared some initial guidelines for banks looking to open cryptocurrency accounts, but they still can’t trade or hold these assets themselves. The guidelines are pretty strict on anti-money laundering (AML) and know your customer (KYC) rules, and banks need to set what they call “prudent” transaction limits and can’t allow cash withdrawals from crypto accounts.

Finally, in 2025, President Tinubu signed the new Investments and Securities Act (ISA) 2024 into law, which tossed out the previous Investments and Securities Act from 2007. This new act officially recognizes cryptocurrencies and other virtual assets as securities for the first time, meaning any business dealing with digital assets now has to register with the SEC and follow their rules. It’s a big step towards cracking down on fraud in the digital world and building trust.
They have known or heard about crypto, they just made conscious efforts to make it official. However, Nigeria is so unfriendly with the youths who are striving.

As a result of the many actions that have truncated the efforts of the youths. I don't see the SEC doing this for the good of Nigerians.
Pardon me if I don't trust them  trust Nigeria and the many rules made. It appears to me, these are efforts to stifle the upcoming finally free youths
