Re: Great news: big corporations aren't ready for BTC yet

Does the rejection by tech giants make you less confident in BTC's potential?

No, but I also feel like these tech giants are the antithesis of BTC anyway.

If you were the owner of Meta or Amazon, would you easily agree to accumulate more BTC?

Maybe privately; but I think these companies are more in the business of generating cashflow than holding assets, so no.

When do you think these tech giants will start accumulating BTC?

I'm going with a controversial "never", unless it becomes necessary to hold BTC as a hedge against currency fluctuations. But the reason I'd say "never" is because (afaik) they don't hold gold either so I doubt that they'll start accumulating BTC, unless shareholder sentiment shifts in a significant way.

Re: The future of money a 100+ year old reboot of the gold standard in physical?

I remember a few years back I saw a video for gold bars that would break apart like bars of chocolate, "solving" the fungibility problem. Maybe it's just coincidence but sometimes it really seems like the gold industry is trying their hardest to catch up with Bitcoin.

KINESIS is running hardcore video ads on youtube "spend real gold not de-valuing fiat currency", they issue a card for you, and let you spend your holdings directly, while earning passive income.

Huh? How is gold earning passive income? Also why would you want to spend gold over currency that is de-valuing?

Re: Accepting BTC payments for my Business - Help with Tax Issues

First off, awesome! But why not ask your tax advisor? If you don't have one you definitely need one anyway. Per default you're presumably still a tax resident of Denmark but depending on where you travel and how long you stay there you might owe some taxes there too, assuming you're officially even allowed to work there. I'm not sure how much e.g. an offshore LLC would improve that situation given that the LLC then still needs to pay you personally, but a professional tax advisor should be able to tell you more.

It won't happen because in the past fiat was backed by gold, but they abandon it due to volatility, Bitcoin volatility is even bigger than gold.

I believe the way the gold standard restricted their capabilities to issue currency was a larger concern than gold's volatility, but the result is the same, given that Bitcoin is not only more volatile than gold but also even rarer.

It is possible for a government to "clog" the bitcoin network for months with frivolous transactions with high fees because they're able to print infinite money? the price of bitcoin could theoretically be 2 million/coin at that point and no one would be able to move any funds.

How would a government's infinite money printing capability enable them to clog the Bitcoin network? Fiat currencies don't pay for transaction fees, bitcoins do and it's not like the government can print Bitcoin.

Re: Isn't it time to add a new button "Sat."?

on 22/05/2025, 08:17:53 UTC
<snip>
For example the USD symbol is $ but there's no symbol for cent (pls correct me if am wrong).. And cent can relatively be said to be like sats.
The globally recognized symbol for cent is ¢

Well in that case it only stands to reason that it the symbol for sat should be $. So 1 sat = 1 $, sounds about right, no? Wink

In all seriousness tho I don't think it makes sense to add a sat button until there actually is an official symbol for sats. And whether we need that is just as questionable imho.

We have already used various AI tools like passgan where you can find patterns and how encryption is created seeing hidden patterns.

Solid ciphers should by definition not have hidden patterns, so while QC might become a threat eventually I doubt that AI ever will (or AGI for that matter, aside from potential capabilities of social engineering or accelerating research on QC).

That is why offline or cold storage is a must to protect to any online attacks like this one.

The message has always been clear. Have your cold wallets, especially those with a lot of funds, run in Air gapped devices with a very clean OS. Any installation of random apps or connection to the internet increased the point of failure.

I think that's the main takeaway here. No matter how careful and tech savvy are, something will always slip through the cracks eventually if your device is connected to the internet.

Re: Satoshi Nakamoto may have intentionally slowed Bitcoin adoption early on.

I don't think the blocksize limitation was put in place to slow down adoption, however it is true that satoshi was advocating for a slow and sustainable growth in Bitcoin's early days:

Basically, bring it on.  Let's encourage Wikileaks to use Bitcoins and I'm willing to face any risk or fallout from that act.
No, don't "bring it on".

The project needs to grow gradually so the software can be strengthened along the way.

I make this appeal to WikiLeaks not to try to use Bitcoin.  Bitcoin is a small beta community in its infancy.  You would not stand to get more than pocket change, and the heat you would bring would likely destroy us at this stage.

Incidentally satoshi disappeared not long after, leaving this as his second-to-last post:

It would have been nice to get this attention in any other context.  WikiLeaks has kicked the hornet's nest, and the swarm is headed towards us.

Re: BTC IN THE LAST 24HRS
by

BTC declining, altcoins broadly down.

Currently, the price of bitcoin shows a slight decrease in price and one may ask, is this the right time to buy in?. for the dominance of BTC in the crypto space, investing in bitcoin hasn't being a debate for me. price will still do more long in just a few weeks from now.

If you call this a decline, are you sure you can stomach an actual crash? Not trying to knock on you, just setting expectations. Whether this is a good price to buy in is anyone's guess, but you need to know for yourself how much of a potential loss you can handle. (and on the flipside, how much FOMO you can handle if the current prices turn out to be cheap in retrospective)

Re: Is AI going to affect the popularity of bitcoin in any way ?
by
HeRetiK
on 15/05/2025, 07:46:04 UTC
I could see venture capital flowing into AI endeavours over crypto-related ones (miners, exchanges, alts) but if anything that market is already oversaturated anyway and dependent on Bitcoin's popularity rather than the other way round. Apart from that I'm not sure where a correlation would lie.
