Re: the effects of drugs on people...
by

The fact that drug abuse is so prevalent these days is a reflection on society. So many people are disconnected and lead meaningless lives and they turn to whatever they have around to self medicate in the hope of escape from their meaningless lives.

The drug users are just a symptom though, often there's a chain of people above them making fortunes from selling drugs. Politicians, government agencies and the whole food chain below.

In Australia we're seeing that much crystal meth (Ice) being imported from China it's hard to believe that the Chinese government doesn't unofficially endorse it.

Re: Terrorist kills 3 in France, he was... muslim

Are all terrorists Muslim? When people do other religions, why are they not terrorists?

Terrorism isn't confined to Islam, but if you look it up on Wikipedia it seems a large percentage of it is committed by muslims.

It's not so much Islam being the problem but the worship of books, any zealot can interpret a book to mean whatever they want if they have an agenda.

Catholics have crusades ( yes they still have them google the black pope or jesuits and war) and Islam wants a caliphate. it's all about power. The people dying and being killed are just pawns in the game or collateral damage that the hierarchy of both systems seems to think is acceptable.

Yes we need to taxes to pay off the national debt accrued by the politicians so they can keep borrowing fiat and make it appear that the economy is working.

& If we didn't have taxes our politicians would never be able to retire as multi millionaires.

Re: What's the most private way to buy and sell crypto?
by

localbitcoins has removed the category for No ID in my country - Australia

Some of the sellers there do advertise with No ID in their ads but require a local phone number and IP address, so they aren't totally anon. It's more for their own records than KYC records though, but a trail will still exist.

Once you get some coins you also use DeepOnion for anonymous trades as well as some of the other suggestions above.

Is DeepVault going to be implemented for Linux DeepOnion wallets any time soon?

The Linux wallet I compiled yesterday has no DeepVault provision. It was built from the latest github source.

I was introduced to steemit by a close friend who was doing well with crypto trading and I got the bug and started trading soon after. That was just after Christmas last year. So I've made a nice loss on the original investment but I only had a pittance to invest, if the market rebounds I could make it back, if not I can alway cry over the DeepOnions I just bought for a song.

You buy it from Binance with BTC, send them your private keys and they'll give you a bonus 50% - beware of phishing links though.

Seriously though, in the short time I've been lurking here I've seen quite a few people ask similar questions. You just have to earn it through quality posts.

Re: Domestic violence
by

It's glossed over quite often but women commit domestic violence crimes just as often as men. It's just that men suffer in silence & if they do speak up no-one gives a fuck. In many places if a man calls police after a domestic violence incident committed against him the police will come and arrest the man. When it goes to court women are likely to get off scott free or receive much lesser sentences/fines. The legal system protects women and punishes men.

What are causes of domestic violence?

Mental illness (in many different forms), jealousy, greed, immaturity and lack of respect for our fellow humans. Mix drugs and alcohol in with all that and anything can happen.

Re: Is there any chance that fiat currencies will be replaced with cryptocurrencies?
by

I think it's inevitable. Many governments are starting to see crypto currencies as something they think they can control. When ASSIC starts listing them they will begin to slowly replace fiat is small niches and then it won't take long for it to become a normal way to purchase things.

Re: Quitting smoking
by

I quit just after New Year and I haven't had one since.

It was easy for me, all I had to do was stop putting them in my mouth.

I found an article online that helped a lot, it is titled "Never Take Another Puff" by Joel Spitzer. I read it one night and quit the next day. Well worth a read.
http://whyquit.com/joel/ntap.pdf

Joel was one of the first to recognise smoking as an addiction when the medical establishment still classed it as a habit. In the PDF he explains the mechanisms that drive addiction and why patches and gum and all forms of of nicotine replacement hardly ever work.  Read it and then read it again each day for a few days after you quit and you'll have a good chance of kicking the habit.

It's hard evaluate this without a source but it's not that much of a stretch of the imagination to think it's possible.

Let's face it, AI can do a lot of stuff much more efficiently than any human ever will.

Some say AI bots are manipulating the markets right now. While I have no idea if that's the case it does seem plausible. We saw the banksters making moves on crypto last year and price surge around the same time, if they gained a big enough percentage of the market capitalization they could use AI bots to pump and dump and then buy it all back for pennies on the pound in the low cycles.

Re: EOS token to expire in June
by
Hitch-hiker
on 13/03/2018, 09:05:18 UTC
I heard that EOS will launch its own blockchain. So basically every holder needs to follow the procedure to get the proper result.
That's the risk when you holding a token. Token always depends on another blockchain.

I'm sure that's what they are planning . It's when they switch over to the EOS blockchain that some people are expecting problems.

I read on steemit that Dan Larimer had a falling out of sorts with Ned & plans to launch a social media platform on the EOS blockchain when it's up and running.

It could be interesting, steemit is OK but there are a lot of things they could have done better so Dan will have the benefit of seeing where steemit could be inproved. If they fix the reward pool rape issues that the whales are abusing and make it more like facebook it could be a winner.

Re: Tips on how to improve grammar skills
by

on 13/03/2018, 06:04:24 UTC
You can get browser extensions that check the grammar of whatever you write. They won't improve your skills dramatically but they can be handy for someone not writing in their first language. They pick up on the common errors that people make and suggest a correction, so if you make the same mistakes frequently eventually you can use them as a learning device. It's a bit like having an English teacher marking your work before you commit to posting it.

Re: If we can educate our kids at home why do we need to send them at school?
by
Hitch-hiker
on 13/03/2018, 05:52:28 UTC
I think governments want our kids to attend schools so they become good little institutionalized citizens that will obey without question.

I don't think that it is going to work that way. The children will remain loyal to the authorities until 14-15 years of age. But after that, when they learn the important things about the government and the authorities, they will start to question them. With each new generation, the kids are getting more and more rebellious.

That's definitely what I've observed with my own kids, they aren't even in high school yet and they already see politicians as pathological liars. I'd say it's mostly from my influence and mistrust of politicians but youtube plays a big part. With access to internet and the ability to choose whatever they want to watch on youtube they are exposed to a much different world view (from trending youtubers) than the main stream media projects on adults.

So 8-10 year olds now pick up on the political views of older kids in the age zone you've used as an example and absorb those views without question. The rebelliousness (if that's a real word) is not such a bad thing in many cases either, I've seen kids filming police breaking the law and questioning the cops because they know the cop has broken the law, they seem to have moral compass that allows them to question anything they think is unjust.

I taught my kids to read and count before they could speak, so school has been a breeze for them & what they learn there is so simple it bores them senseless. It does have some advantages though, it's gets them off the video games for 8 hours each day. I'm not that impressed by the friends they make at school but I was allowed to choose my friends & I believe everyone needs that freedom as a basic human right.

I can't see them learning much of value until high school and even then a lot of that will be BS but that's just the world we live in.

EOS token to expire in June
by
Hitch-hiker
on 12/03/2018, 23:19:02 UTC
I just came across an article on steemit about EOS tokens

In the article zoidsoft explains that come June 3 if you haven't taken steps to secure your keys and get the tokens off the ehterium system you will lose them.

https://steemit.com/eos/@zoidsoft/how-to-claim-your-eos-tokens-after-buying-on-bitshares-or-commit-suicide

That was news to me I had no idea that a token could just expire like that.

What do people here plan to do with their EOS tokens to preserve them?

Apologies if this has been covered somewhere else.

Yeah you have to be careful, I evaluate all new sites with a sand-boxed browser. That way if they install any malware it stays in the sandboxed fake home directory and dies when I kill the browser (hopefully)

There's no way I'd click on anything like that in a browser I use for anything important.

Some of the tactics they use to steal your keys are very obvious but they must work, people see free and abandon all common sense.

Re: Pick pockets. have you experienced one?
by
Hitch-hiker
on 12/03/2018, 10:52:15 UTC
I had my pocket picked at school by a guy who evolved into a lifelong criminal. My wallet was in my back pocket and it wasn't all the way down so the top was exposed. He bumped into me as he did it and then created a distraction by looking at someone else with a look on his face that implied the other guy had pushed him into me.

So I didn't realise for about 5 minutes later when I saw him and his mates going through my wallet.

From that day on I'm always suspicious if someone bumps into me and instantly check that my wallet is still there and I've never had my pocket picked since.
