Also getting lost shares stratum not connecting to pool etc. after checking everything network card internet etc I turned out to be my usb switch I plugged the miners into a cheap 10port switch and voila! they al started hashing at full speed accept shares no disconnects or lost shares

Re: DRILLBIT SYSTEM Miners - Avalon range available - Now $104.99!
That's true but no PSU can take unlimited amps on the 5V rail. But I guess a quality PSU should shut down before a melt down happens.
it is/was a 800W odin modular psu. it was pulling about 17A (max25A 5v) from the rail in question that starting overheating i think the fan got stuck or something. i have it outside of the pc powering 3 av16 at the moment and no problems, bad connection maybe....

specking your power supply is very important as i found out, since i fried my 800W as i was pulling ay to many amps on the 5V rail. melting smoke aint funny. as a rule of thumb always asume psu are only 80% efficient. so with a 550W dont go above 440W and obviously pay not on the amp rating of the psu as 550W not the whole power supply but more likely 470W only for the 12V rail. RIP odin....
I guess you friend used alot of Molex to PCI-E converters right?
no that would be me. and no drillbitsystem to blame. was the usb eruptors fault, was pulling way to much on the one 5V rail

Which device are you asking is alright? The antminer needs at least 30 amps (360W/12v = amp [I think]) so anything over that is gravy. All these newish devices want alot more amps than my old supplies use ,so if your planning on anything like an antminer or an avalon device check the amps as well. I'm probablhy getting griefed by my 8boards wanting more than I can give them and will be looking for more like the cousair hx brand since I know it works on higher devices like the antminer (the 650 has 54 amps so I should be good for a year till antminer s2 drops in price).
Just make sure your being specific on your device your asking about multiple devices in a post which was meant to be only for drillbit and was supposed to be killed in respects to use the official drillbit forum.
Enjoy
yeah point taken. was referring to 8boards and av16. busy making a box for them with their own power supply.

Re: DRILLBIT SYSTEM Miners - Avalon range available - Now $104.99!
av16 is supposed to draw 4A at conservative settings and upto 6.5A at maximum safe settings per http://drillbitsystem.com/forum/index.php?topic=309.0. I estimate that a single board takes about 5-6A when doing 22 GH/sec. At 5A it will be 5*12=60W, so 22/60=0.367 GH/W. (probably need to add a few Watts for the essential fans). The Antminer S1 at default settings does 180 GH and takes 360W at the wall, which makes 0.5 GH/W. This suggests that the S1 is slightly more efficient, however both are significantly less efficient than the S2 or Spondoolies SP10.
Cheers
running my Eight:int:52:2:950,Av16:int:750:1:1000 192W+180W =372Wplus fans say 380W so techincally a 450W psu should be ok...but on psu the sticker 428W is for +12V 25A and 22W for -12V 0.8A would this psu with it's 20awg wires work? since its got 3cables i can use 4 if i steal one from the mb plug

thanks kopar (the small usb eruprors at 0.5A*10 and 320MH/s) making about R45 a day and half goes to electricity so cost versus output is important since drawing about 400W at the wall.

have draw up rough plans for water based heatsinks for both side of the av16 board, sourcing a aluminum maker cnc, in talks with manufacturer
Unless you want to solve your particular cooling situation, you'd probably be better rewarded if you target something like the Antminer S1 or S2 with water cooling. As I see it, the main bottleneck in the near future will be efficiency in GH/Watt, as with rise of difficulty mining might stop being profitable if the electricity cost becomes greater than BTC reward. Unfortunately the Av16 boards are far from being efficiency champions (unlike the earlier Bitfury based Drillbit devices. I'll keep running mine while they can, but sadly just like BE's, they are approaching the 'departure lounge'....
Cheers
you have a valid point, the av16 vs the 8boards usage power?

Re: DRILLBIT SYSTEM Miners - Avalon range available - Now $104.99!
If you are using existing holes, then the risk is minimal. I have 4 of these Av16 Drillbit boards, which are stacked with the heatsink on top. So far I did not have any separation issues and they are working quite reliably. These are significantly less efficient than the older bitfury based boards and require plenty of cooling. I'm using 12 cm fans in push-pull from the sides, blowing air through the fins and also some old HDD cooler dual fans on top of each heatsink. This keeps it at a reasonable temp of about 47 deg C. Overcloocked to Av16:int:750:1:1000 they produce about 88 GH/s altogether.
Cheers
yeah these new av16 work very well.

i see Pool luck (1 day, 7 days, 30 days): 29%, 108%, 93% , 29 is bad is this a sign? a sign that more GH needed?

one thing i did notice when the heatsinks fell off is that there are holes in the board, this would fit nicely for heatsinks if someone would make a water based heatsink.......
i'll just build the whole thing into a mini fridge

Re: DRILLBIT SYSTEM Miners - Avalon range available - Now $104.99!
Got my two boards, they look great, but both heatsinks immediately fell off. I thought that maybe they just shook loose during shipping, so I pressed them back on as firmly as I could -- but one of them fell off with a clunk just as I got hashing a few minutes later. Now I'm debating whether to drill some holes or just run them heatsink-side-up.
It's not a huge problem, but was there a reason you didn't screw the heatsinks in place?
Despite earlier photos showing the heatsink below, Barntech later suggested to position the board with the heatsink on top, to avoid the 'separation' that you described. I started with the heatsink below, later turned the boards so it is on top on my 4 Av16 boards. No separation so far on mine. Drilling holes might be risky, as you could bridge internal ground and power layers. The first and easy step is to turn the boards so the heatsinks face up. You may want to consult Barntech (check out the drillbit forum at http://drillbitsystem.com/forum/, you may want to register there so that you may post your issue) about any adhesive or way of re-attaching the heatsinks to ensure good thermal transfer and avoid pre-mature thermal death of your ASICS.
Cheers
which would better then heatsink down or up? two av16 running at 42C and 48C with heatsink down and two 120mm fans on either side
ed. both heatsink fell off just now edd. now heatsinks up running 750:1:1000 43 45C each and hw like 0.9% so heatsinks up they all go

Re: DRILLBIT SYSTEM Miners - Avalon range available - Now $104.99!
For the Eight board, my cgminer.conf file uses "drillbit-options" : "Eight:int:53:2:950", "usb" : ":1"
(the "usb": part tells it to look just for 1 device)
For the Av16 boards the conf file has "drillbit-options" : "Av16:int:750:1:1000", "usb" : ":1"
(again, cgminer sees this 'bunch' as a single USB device). The 'Eight' or 'Av16' tells this instance which device type to apply this for. I just happen to use different versions of cgminer for these 2 (currently running 4 instances of cgminer and 2 of bfgminer on the same pc to control a garden variety of miners including Drillbit Thumbs (bf), Drillbit AvThumbs, Drillbit Eight, Drillbit Av16's, Blue/Red Fury, Antminer U1/2's...
Cheers
running something close to that, what setting would i need to ignore any and all other devices?
ed. --drillbit-options Eight:int:52:2:950,Av16:int:725:1:100 seems to work for the 5 8baords and the two av16 :-)

Re: DRILLBIT SYSTEM Miners - Avalon range available - Now $104.99!
Got my two new 16boards connected power, link down to up and plugged in usb at the down board, windoze now can see one extra 8boards aka 16. the special cgminer can see the extra boards but it's not hashing? i obviously missing something, clock init settings?
ed. drivers drivers drivers and int:500:1:900 with --drillbit-options int:52:2:950. ok the 8 and 16 dont want work together
ok it shows 5 8boards and two 16boards but --drillbit-options Eight:int:52:2:950,Av16:int:750:1:950 does not seem to work it blinks then quits
ed. the only i can get these boards to work is by splitting them up into two batch files like this:cgminer --drillbit-options int:750:1:950 --usb drb:6 -o http://stratum.bitcoin.cz:3333 -u user -p password --usb drb:7 -o http://stratum.bitcoin.cz:3333 -u user0 -p password and the other batch using --usb drb:1 to drb:5
These boards are not fully 'hot plug'. Unless you can bring power to all of your Av16 boards at once, checkout the suggestion at http://drillbitsystem.com/forum/index.php?topic=309.15 about a power-up sequence to get all Av16 boards running. I have now 4 Av16 boards and a single drillbit8 board. I run the drillbit8 board on a separate instance of cgminer 4.0.1 and the Av16 boards on an instance of cgminer 4.2.1. The Av16 boards are detected as a single entity with a "DRB 0: A 4..." designation meaning that it is a group of 4 boards. The Av16 are now running with a setting of "Av16:int:750:1:1000" (in cgminer.conf), getting about 87.5 GH/s, with a temp of 51-52 deg C.
Cheers
doing the same , how would i specify to only use drb 1 to 5 for the one and 6 and 7 (the 16boards) the other the 8boards --drillbit-options int:52:2:950 -o http://stratum.bitcoin.cz:3333 -u user3 -p password --usb drb:1 --usb drb:2 --usb drb:3 --usb drb:4 --usb drb:5
the two av16 cgminer --drillbit-options int:750:1:1000 -o http://stratum.bitcoin.cz:3333 -u user -p password --usb drb:6 --usb drb:7 funny thing is if the 8boards stops the other wants to take over and pics up the 8baords even when i only specified drb:6 and 7
