Re: "Error opening block database. Do you want to rebuild the block database now?"
by

I have just encountered this error since I downloaded Bitcoin-Qt version 0.8.5 for OSX running on Mountain Lion, having replaced version 0.8.4 which I downloaded just a few days ago, and am seeing this when I attempt to run it: "Error opening block database. Do you want to rebuild the block database now?". I did not see this error when I ran 0.8.4.

Should I click "Ok" and allow the rebuild of the block database to proceed? Or would it be wise to stick to 0.8.4 for the time being?

Same as Keewee:

I had the error with 0.8.4.  I updated to 0.8.5.  It worked.  Upon restart, same error with 0.8.5.  Also using OSX 10.8.5.

Re: [Official] Message from the Montreal Bitcoin Embassy

The words "Embassy" and/or "Ambassador" have nowadays a more flexible meaning:

"The word is also often used more liberally for persons who are known, without national appointment, to represent certain professions, activities and fields of endeavor"

The Bitcoin Embassy intends to represent, help, educate, and promote certain activities and fields of endeavor. It is not politically "charged".

June 22nd is great for me, from any time onwards.

The building will be open to our community -- all the time -- once we are tad more organized, hence our need to set-up the spaces and establish "key-holding" responsibilities asap.

our focus right now should be to, get a good plan all squared away , and get more people from montreal involved
if we have a good plan, it will be easy to organize people to help out in whatever way they can

I wait to hear from Jake about the legal status of buying and selling bitcoin in the province of quebec.

Hello!

I am very excited about developing the Building into our center.  Thank you for the ideas.  Keep them coming! We should try to meet-up soon again to sort through the suggested activities, choose those we should focus on at the launch of the Center, go through the design of the layout in some measure of details this time, and discuss some anticipated challenges we are certain to face in promoting the use of Bitcoin in Quebec & Canada.

It was really good to meet you all, Derek absolutely included!

I look forward to the next meet-up in our building.

Meanwhile, I'll check out the new thread in the Project Development sub-forum.

Reminder

This afternoon, as of 2:00pm, the door will be open for Bitcoiners at

3485 blv St-Laurent, 2nd Floor.

There will be space (perhaps still somewhat messy), wifi, drinks, food, and all the street-sale activities.

Come if you are a Bitcoiner, come if you are currious about Bitcoins!

Some of the points on a fluid agenda:

meet & greet
State of Bitcoins in Quebec and Canada
What to do with our Building.

Saturday is the street-sale on St-Laurent, so if you're coming by car, plan to park on the adjacent streets.  There will be a lot of street activity around for those that want to linger later on.

The address is 3485 blv St-Laurent (corner of Milton and St-Laurent). Let's meet on the second floor.

I'll plan for food and drinks.

Welcome all and bring anyone interested in Bitcoins!

Sounds very interesting. Maybe we should meet there and see how we can organise something.

That's the idea  Smiley

Let me know when you can pass by.  Anytime really.

I intend to making the Building available to everyone interested in Bitcoins --- for free, as long as they are bitcoiners.

But I need your help for that.

And yes, it is an awesome place to organize meetings and potentially just to hang out and talk/work bitcoins with like-minded people if WE do it right.

There are some layout consideration (it is a big space that we can organize as we see fit) and I'd like to have your input before I carry out the few renovations that I have in mind.

Keep me informed!

It could be a really nice and useful place, and, for a while at least, rather unique.  It is up to us to give it life and momentum.

A Bitcoin Building in Montreal?

FREE

• Always accessible
• Great venue for Meet-ups
• Information space on bitcoins for public information
• Possible programming stations / hackspace

• Ideas welcome

I would very much like the input of the local Bitcoin community on how to best organize the various spaces.

The building I have in mind is located on St-Laurent, close to Sherbrook.  Everything is almost ready to go and remains to be done...  I just need you!

PM me for more information or for a first organized visit of the premisses!

Hi Jake,

My name is Jack and I represent Canadian Virtual Exchange (also known as CaVirtex). CaVirtex is Canada's first Bitcoin trading market that allows you to buy and sell Bitcoins with Canadian dollars (cavirtex.com).

I believe you are referring to the report about the FINTRAC letter which suggests Bitcoin exchanges in Canada are exempt from strict money-laundering laws.

We are investigating the validity of this report.

Yes, the statement circulating around the web being that an MSB license would not as of yet be required to operate an exchange.

At the San Jose conference, Legals & Compliance and regulatory issues were a main and most interesting track.
