If there are people that do this stuff for free, you're disincentivizing makers.

I wouldn't want to be a taker in a market that consists of a handful known enthusiasts instead of a huge amount of anonymous people fighting to find a fair price.

What you're saying is you'd be happy to see fewer market makers and higher costs, so that you can feel good about it, as opposed to actual users being able to get proper service at a lower price.

Re: [PRE-ANN] Tau-Chain and Agoras Official Thread: Generalized P2P Network
by

Can someone tell me what token owners get in return?

Agoras will be an economy offering many new features, like trustlessly hiring programmers (as in the blogpost Code and Money), or hiring other professionals (c.f. Bitagoras), or computer resources (like Zennet), or release coins for any provable "thing", at the sense of tau's proofs.
All Agoras' markets will have one coin. Those coins are being pre-sold, and the msc intermediate token is only for buyers to have something transferrable in hand and will be converted to the real coins. So the msc tokens will cease being operational upon Agoras' genesis where the actual coins take place, and the buyers get a share on Agoras economy.

Okay, so it's like "app fuel" for one or more markets?

But it seems it's not possible to objectively estimate future "value" of such tokens, so how is one supposed to figure out whether to buy or not?

That part is extremely fuzzy. PoS, someone said, but what about it? Rewards can be set arbitrarily later, so they may or may not turn out to be ... rewarding.

I have an idea,I am going to issue Chancecoin asset on NXT Asset Exchange(AE).I think it is a good chance.I will buy some CHA from poloniex.com network to my address, and then sell it on AE,I promise I just sell equivalent CHA I owned,We can trade CHA on AE,If someone wants to change the token to the CHA,PM me and transfer CHA asset to my address,Then I send you CHA,At the same time you also transfer CHA to my address I will send you CHA asset,I don't know how to write program to do it,Actually, I hope that the official team do this thing,And provide API and better block explorer. Multigateway is very cool.See more: http://multigateway.org/

That's a great idea.

I would be even better if CHA devs submit an application for the MGW (Nxt MultiGateWay) so people can deposit and withdraw CHA directly from the Nxt wallet.

CHA could be floated on Counterparty (ironically) and once Counterparty multisig is functional (it's now open on develop) it could be backed by real CHA deposited with a trusted party (maybe even the devs).

The node would have been an XMIXER

XMIXER requires 1000 XC,
XNODE requires 0?

Correct

What is the default? I have 1001 XC but the mining icon is green and it says "Minting" (and the elusive reward is *always* 15-20 hours way).
Is it necessary to have "-distmix-autonode" to be XNODE? I remember that was suggested 2-3 weeks ago, but I don't know which mode is better now.

-distmix-autonode is to be an Xmixer.

Every node (including Xmixers) are Xnodes, since they all use the end-to-end encrypted, serverless Xnode protocol.

For a normal node, you need no minimum balance and you shouldn't run -distmix-autonode.

For staking, don't run an Xmixer. For transaction fees, run an XMixer.

All right, thank you.  Now I do not have -distmix-autonode but I'm mining. That's something I don't understand.
My shortcut has a few addnode + one maxconnections parameter, that's all.
I'm on v0.9.2.49.08.XCurrency-REV2.

echo chambers are dangerous

Thanks!

I love to burp in echo chambers!
That is great news because that's exactly what I was hoping for (and hence didn't buy Ethereum fuel). Yeee how!!!!
I knew about telehash and IBM/Samsung cooperation, but even news mags that published the Samsung hook up news didn't mention this.

EDIT: Now I know why: it's not really true - the fork is just to do a demo at an event. They didn't say they plan to maintain or develop that fork.

Okay so I'm on v0.9.2.49.06.XCurrency-REV2 running xminer.
My question is about the seemingly random way xminer works.

1. Now my weight is 7504, but every time I turn it on it's different (although the amount in the wallet is the same).  What are factors that impact that?

2. Time to earn reward also gyrates wildly. Sometime it's 17 hours, then 20, now 21. Why?

3. It seems (from 2, above) that xminer isn't useful (i.e. is useless) if you need - and I do - to show down your PC once or twice a day. Is this true?

Hi guys, the build system has been modified to work with Ubuntu 12.04 properly again, as well as Windows.

Just update counterpartyd_build to the newest version via get. Updated instructions are at: http://counterpartyd-build.readthedocs.org/en/latest/BuildingFromSource.html
(for Linux, you'll just need to update from git and rerun).

Please report any technical issues with it to dev@counterparty.co, or our Skype chat channels.

Hi

The windows docs still has python version 3.2 as the minimum requirement but Flask requires at 3.3 and above.

Cheers

Link?

(Edit)
Yes, the first update to reflect the change was merged into the master branch 2 days ago.  The second and complete update went in more than 1 day ago, maybe around the time you wrote the post.

Hi, I bought some XCP on BTER about a few hours ago. 81.4xxx XCP worth 0.34BTCto be precise. I transferred them to the Counterwallet about 7 hours ago from BTER and they still haven't arrived there yet. I used one of the addresses provided in the wallet - 1QHVjcE7o5zfK9MYcaM9oHUTjAQmYQjy56. Normally, how long do they take to arrive in the counterwallet Huh Should I be worried Huh Are my XCP lost Huh
It shows 'Array' in the transaction ID in BTER Huh

So in other words: BTER hasn't sent the coins yet, right?
And indeed as of now blockscan is showing the address balance is zero.

hello, could I have a help. I was sending bitcoins from counterparty wallet to get storj ipo  and the computer stuck and I had to restart the computer. After restarting computer when i logged on again and  there was no transactions pending, no bitcions and and no storj , what should i do? Did i lose the money? Please help!

most probably your send succeeded, but you don't receive yet storjcoin. Please check the address with blockchain.info and blockscan.

Please do not check with blockscan, at least until I get the daemon running again. The latest update due to the CFD has broken my install even after attempting to install pip. Any assistance is of course appreciated

EDIT: Actually I see you're on windows. I'll have instructions soon for that. Assuming you already tried to rerun the setup script? Add me on Skype "xnovaxcp", and I can work with you interactively to resolve.

Try the following:

counterpartyd only, if using the build system manually (assuming that counterpartyd_build is installed into your home directory):
sudo ~/counterpartyd_build/env/bin/pip install --upgrade -r ~xcp/counterpartyd_build/dist/counterpartyd/pip-requirements.txt

If running a federated node:
sudo ~xcp/counterpartyd_build/env/bin/pip install --upgrade -r ~xcp/counterpartyd_build/dist/counterpartyd/pip-requirements.txt
sudo ~xcp/counterpartyd_build/env.counterblockd/bin/pip install --upgrade -r ~xcp/counterpartyd_build/dist/counterblockd/pip-requirements.txt

I figured this out... at last

Flask requires at minimum Python 3.3 and above. However, the minimum requirements prior to this was python 3.2 as per the counterparty install docs. I had to reinstall with 3.3 and it worked

I would recommend updating the docs to reflect this and also with new download links to the pre-reqs on the docs page

Cheers

Yes, the docs were updated but didn't get merged to master prior to the release.
The issue was also posted:
https://github.com/CounterpartyXCP/counterpartyd/issues/207

Just wanted to know, is there any talk or even idea of moving the Counterparty onto a faster, less dependent on whims of th eCartel chain? There are a couple of PoS schemes which look promising. If  they prove robust enough over time is there a chance that we will move?

It's an FAQ
https://www.counterparty.co/resources/faqs/can-counterparty-work-on-blockchains-other-than-bitcoin/

IMO as long as fiat and virtual currencies are priced in BTC, it's impractical to run away from Da Blocartelchain. To exit and enter you need to use Da Blocartelchain.

I have a quick question: if we are attempting to direct people to Counterwallet to use for the first time, should we send them to

https://cw03.counterwallet.co

or

https://www.counterparty.co/

?

Thanks in advance.

It's best to use https://counterwallet.co as that serves as a "dispatcher" for available CW servers.
CW03 has the new code, but soon all CW* servers should have it. However if your referrals are related to some new CW functionality and you need to do it *now*, then send them to cw03.
If you think they should get some idea of what Counterparty is about and they don't like to read:

I am new here , how to get coins , mining?

XCP isn't mined, but you can buy it at any of the exchanges listed here: https://www.counterparty.co/xcp/

I have a small suggestion for the Counterparty site... when clicking on any exchanges listed there it just brings up a larger version of the site's logo, maybe have a link pointing to the respective XCP trading page instead? Just seems like it would make more sense from a usability standpoint.

I see what you mean, but do you agree that you wouldn't click to those sites there if you already knew about them?
That is, you'll probably click on an exchange that you aren't a member of, which means such users would have to (or should) check out the home page and open an account before that.
IMO while it may be useful to have another page, or a widget, with the current rate on those exchanges. That would probably provide some basic info without clicking on all the links.

Counterparty mentioned along Mastercoin and Etherium in newest Bitcoin 101 video:
http://youtu.be/fCtf9eumuhU?t=22m54s

Project page here:
http://climatecolab.org/web/guest/plans/-/plans/contestId/1300404/planId/1305801

The idea is basically to create a carbon cap-and-trade system based on bitcoin. Everyone shall receive a share and be able to lease it out to polluters.

Grin
Wow... I'm delighted!
Can't wait to burn my tokens on such a noble cause.

Quote

Is it possible to lease out a share with Counterparty? Will it be possible in the future? In the project comment section I see Etherium mentioned several times but not Counterparty.

Disclaimer: I am not associated with this project.

AFAIK not within the protocol.

We are still in the "innovators" stage, so this is not very surprising. We have several more large UI changes upcoming, which should make it easier for people to use Counterparty, and help move us into the "early adopter" stage.

Sounds good. I like Counterparty and I think it has a lot to offer. Am looking forward to the upgrades. Are the new changes whats causing this to happen when I try to log in right now?

"No counterparty servers are currently available. Please try again later. ERROR: Request Time out."

Never seen that one before. Thanks.

That's because you haven't looked. If you just googled the error you'd have found that it's been reported before on more than one occasion, for example here:
https://forums.counterparty.co/index.php/topic,188.msg2342.html#msg2342

Status of Countewallet servers is available here and sometimes it's possible to get around the problem by connecting to another Counterwallet server.
