The best books I have read are Moon and Sixpence. The protagonist in the book, a broker of the British Stock Exchange, already has a solid career and status, and a happy family, but he is obsessed with painting, like being "possessed by the devil", and suddenly abandons his home and goes to Paris. Pursue the ideal of painting.
He was not only physically suffering from poverty and hunger in a foreign country, but also suffering mentally in order to find ways to express himself. He finally created one after another masterpieces that shocked future generations; but after his death, he made these paintings torch.
Certainly some people think he is neurotic, but I saw in him the "purity" of human nature, not for fame, not for profit, sacrificing everything, only for the purity of the pursuit of art.
