A note on the DigiByte Lottery being put on by zaloultra:

We as the development time are not putting this lottery on, organizing it or storing the coins. We simply agreed to pick a random winner by using http://www.miniwebtool.com/random-picker/ and posting a screen shot.

We understand there has been some disagreement but we see no reason to try and stop zaloultra from promoting the coin in this way as long as he is honest, treats others with respect, refrains from insulting others in a derogatory manner and follows through with his promises. Many people have already bought tickets and the account address currently shows a balance of: 98,295.273746 DGB ( DEB9iMJzdkFa8FWsRVabzUzuJLfaEVk746 )

Once again, we do not control the coin wallet where the coins are being held and we are not officially putting this lottery on. We simply agreed to pick the winner as stated before.

Proceed at your own risk.

Couldn't agree more. Thank you  Smiley

The "disagreement" was that some people started hassling the lottery for no real apparent reason. Then the people behind some dicegame started flaring up and things got a bit nasty. I have a feeling they don't like the competition, as they feel the lottery takes away some digi's that could otherwise have been spent on their dicegame. There seem to be a group of several people in on that racket.

Just to have this clarified: I am neither owning nor have I ever played any dice game. I do not even like it at all. We just gave you some lessons on how to calculate an expected value of a random event. Smiley

I think for all parties, it is better to stop this now. However, if I see any untrue or offending statement, I will keep posting my and others calculations over and over again. Wink

This argument is retarded.

For a start, playing 1 ticket is the same as rolling the dice once with the same odds of winning.
Dice gives you more options and you can repeat bets a lot quicker (instead of waiting for more lottery draws) but the idea is still THE SAME. Just because you *can* continue rolling dice, doesn't mean that the dice game is more rigged than the lottery.

In this example if you took a 1% dice game with 1/150 chance to win (same as the lottery) then the payout would be 150 *0.99 = 148.5x.
For a 4,000 DGB bet this equates to: 594,000 DGB.
EV of this bet is -40 DGB per roll (you lose 40 DGB every time you click)

That's a one off dice spin of 4,000 DGB with 1/150 chance to win (provided that the site has a high enough bankroll).

The chance of winning the lottery on here is 1/150 but the payout is 300,000 DGB (with 2nd and 3rd prizes that total 180,000).
EV of this bet is -800 DGB / ticket.

*edit* - Either way, this isn't the place to discuss how much Digibytes one can lose by gambling.

Thanks zukii for the support and I could not agree more.

zaloultra also forgets that you can buy as many tickets as you want, so let me buy all 150 tickets for 4000 each and I get 3200 per ticket back Wink

I believe his "economics degree "refers to his math classes in middle-school. Probability and EV is not a time related value, it is always per bet.

You dicegame people are so full of shit. Why don't you get a real job instead of tricking people out of their funds and only make yourselves Rich. You only think aboyt yourselves you psychopathic highway robbers. Quit your lies and veiled threats you naste scumbags.

Stop and think what kind of an image you give out to your potential customers.

What, telling the truth about your dicescam. I knew there would be hell to pay taking you dicescammers.
My message is simple. Dont play the dicegame. Its a rigged scam. Your much better of playing the lottery where you may actually WIN.

What's there not to like about that. Do you dicescammers have a 300,000 1.prize?? The lottery does. All you dicescammers do is make people broke, all but yourselves.

How are you going to lie your way around that??

Nobody here is a dice scammer - what everyone is saying here is that you loose less (you do not win either) when you play the dice game on average compared to your lottery game or simply tell me from truin's calculation where he is wrong? Again EV of dicegameis around 0.97, whereas the lottery has an EV of 0.8. Any EV smaller than 1 means that you loose on average.

Please take a few classes on probability calculation before you keep posting.

I have a degree in economics, how do you like that  Smiley Anybody playing the dicegame for an hour will lose through their teeth. FACT.
Hm,so obviously you could not tell me what is wrong with truin's calculation so I assume you agree with it.

To make it clear for all your lottery example first:
You will earn 150 (number of tickets) * 4000DGB = 600000DGB
You can win a total of + 300000 + 120000 + 60000 = 480000DGB
Banks profit is 120000DGB or divided by the number of tickets (120000DGB / 150) =
800DGB bank profit / lose for the gambler per ticket of your lottery

Let's assume a dice game with 2% edge
DGB per bet = 4000DGB and 150 draws = 600000DGB total bet to have it similar to your lottery
In 48% of the cases I can double my bet (48% of 150 draws are 72) = 72 * 8000 (doubled bet) = 576000DGB - in the other 78 draws I loose
Bank profit after 150 draws: 24000DGB which makes 28000/150 =
160DGB profit  for the bank / lose for the gamer per draw in a dice game

No idea where you got your degree from, but if you are that smart then show me the mistake here.

If anyone has a great idea on to what the best way to do the lottery is please let us know. We ourselves were thinking of a fair & transparent way to do this.

1. Payout at least 95%
2. Only accept tickets from users here in the board that created an account more than 2 weeks ago (otherwise the creator of the lottery could easily set up a new account himself that wins)
3. Let digibyte announce the winner
4. Reveal how the draw will be done to prove randomness

1. Why not make it 101% payout  Smiley
2. Great - so about 3 people will buy tickets??
3. He is now.
4. Yeah, put it on CNN

 Grin

Any of those dice games or bet races give me a higher chance to win, so no reason for me and many others to participate. The USDE lottery even paid out more than that.Wink

And I believe that all of my 4 points are valid points, but your replies have shown that you do not want to take them serious and even made fun about it, so my little trust in this is now completely gone. Smiley

Maybe, I will start my own lottery where all those 4 points will apply.

I can't see that you even have a single valid point, all I see is that you would like to steal my idea. Please stop trolling, your close to being a Gingermod2.

Those dice games are set up for ALL of you to lose against the "house". They are meant to be played again and again and again in a short period of time and you lose a little almost all the time. If you play that boring dicegame for an hour you will probably have lost 95% of your funds - giving a payout in real termes of 5%. Play the dicegame with 50,000 DGB for an hour and your left with 2,500 DGB, making a loss of 47,500. Any of those dicegames or bet races will make you broke.

Play the DigiByte Lottery on the other hand and you may win up to 300,000 DGB.

Dice games have an house edge of 2-4%, means an 48% that doubles your bet, so the expected outcome is 0.92-0.96DGB for each 1 DGB bet.You are offering a payout of 80%, so the expected outcome is 0.8DGB for each DGB that I bet.

It is simple as that. Neither dice games, nor your lottery makes anyone richer on average, but yours is even worse. truin was so nice to do the above calculation in detail.

By the way, I am not stealing your idea. You are stealing the idea from the USDE board. I wonder why DigiByte even trusts you - would not be surprised if you just keep all the DGB without drawing anything with those kind of respect-less posts in this thread.

As the last couple of pages filled this thread with this pointless and scammy-looking lottery, it damages even the reputation of this coin. And if you take a closer look into my signature, you can be assured that I only want the best for this currency.

The next time I see the Dev around in the IRC, I will encourage him to stop promoting this lottery the way it is. I really see my support for this coin at risk if DigiByte keeps supporting this.

In the end 129 sat is not a bad price - just around that range that still makes sense for people to mine it at around $10 / 1000khash / day.

I can only pass my congrats to the Digibyte team. You had a great start when it was launched and you have proved those wrong that said that DGB will not be worth anything beyond 50 sat!

He only pays out 70% (40%+20%+10%)

I would be seriously careful about this. He is also no official representative of the coin afaik.

In the end, he will probably pay out the wins to three wallets that he or friends of him own.

What about bounties for people like me spending whole day and night in this thread since coin launch?

or for people moderating the IRC chan Wink
And your way!

Well received - thanks! By the way, it would also be great to have you or one of the devs in there from time to time. Smiley We have around 30 people there atm, see a few trades every once and then and most importantly, share updates about digicoin and encourage all people to vote across all platforms. What do you think this coin is going to be worth when it hits an exchange, i'm trying to draw a reference point, I guess EAC would the closest one?

EAC had more enthusiastic support behind it.  It's block reward was a little higher, but it didn't have massive giveaways equal to 6+ solved blocks either.  Assuming 3/4 of the people that enter giveaways are mooches who will dump it the second they can, I'd put the initial exchange value around 300 satoshi with a very, very fast ramp down to 100 satoshi.

If you're lucky and dev supports the coin as promised, it will go back up from there.  But that initial dump will be brutal.

Calculate the number of DGB you can mine per day given your hash. Compare to another coin you think holds similar promise & calculate the daily income you'd make with your hash mining that coin. Convert to DGB and you have your answer Wink

I'm aware how to do simple math.  The rate any one coin commands when it hits an exchange is a guestimate at best.  Comparing to any established coin is pointless, and comparing it to other new coins requires knowledge that isn't always the easiest to find (giveaway amounts, premine reserved for developers, kickbacks to game providers, other bounties, etc.)  One can roughly compare the amount of posts per day on a given coin thread and the hashpower at a given time from launch as an indication of the interest in a coin, but then you have one's like MOON that crashed so spectacularly despite the relative enthusiasm by posters and miners - likely due to the prodigious amount of them that were being produced.

Honestly, cryptsy kills as many coins as it helps.  The obsession with getting on an exchange early is bad policy.  The only real sustainable otpion is to line up services that will take a coin before it's on an exchange so that the propensity to dump them isn't as large.  Funds from the premine could be used to guarantee a certain price level if the exchange rate did not hit initial estimates.  But to launch a coin and go straight to an exchange before anything else can be done with it is almost certain death.  I'm aware there are merchants that take it now, but greater support is necessary to avoid the low valuation - no mining spiral that is the kiss of death for all coins.

I think it's a given that it'll fall just after listing, but given DGB's usefulness as a POS currency I expect that those who wait too long to buy will find themselves locked out of the market as it will rise again soon. My completely unscientific guesstimate would be in the region of 50-100Satoshi's.  If it lists for that much it's going to get smashed by multipools tho :/

That does not make sense to me. No multipool would touch it at a rate of 50-100sat. You can currently make less than 10k/1MH/day at the current diff, so even at a rate of 100 sat, you would make around 0.01BTC/Mh. Even Doge gives you slightly more. And you forget that as soon as multipools jump in, the hash rate and consequently also the diff increases. Soon you will not get more than 5k/1MH/day, so 50-100sat seems undervalued and certainly not interesting for multipools
