5850 drops to khash/s

Greetings all,

Feels good to back in the best community of all time!  Just started mining again with my Asus-5850 gpu and have been running into a small problem that I figured may be a simple fix.

Using GuiMiner v2012-11-18 I start off by getting around 280 mhash/s with a modest overclock.  I'll come back to my computer after a while (as little as 10 minutes) and the card utilization drops to practically nothing with about 250 k/hash per second?

I know it's not overheating and shutting itself off as the gpu is watercooled and runs at a sweet 25-27 degrees Celsius all times.

Anyone know what might be going on here?

Thanks for taking a look!

-KBundy

*** UPDATE ***
Upon further monitoring, it looks like it decided to stop dedicating full resources after the block was solved and a new block was started?  Is there a way to prevent this?  Otherwise I have to click stop mining and then start mining again to get it back up to 280 mhash/s

Greetings all,

Using GuiMiner v2012-11-18 I start off by getting around 280 mhash/s with a modest overclock.  I'll come back to my computer after a while (sometimes 30 minutes, sometimes a couple hours) and the card utilization drops to practically nothing with about 250 k/hash per second?

Anyone know what might be going on here?

*** UPDATE ***
Upon monitoring GUIMiner more closely, I have noticed that this problem appears to happen every 15-20 minutes or so?  Have to restart the miner continuously defeating the purpose of mining in the first place.  Help a brother out here?

*** UPDATE ***
Upon further monitoring, it looks like it decided to stop dedicating full resources after the block was solved and a new block was started?

Red Emerald,

I may be interested in trying it out, right now i am just using windows 7 with phoenix miner, but if this makes this either faster or easier I'm down to give it a try, do you know what thread would be best to follow?

Hello, I am trying to get linuxcoin to work on my rig and the default user name you have here don't seem to be working, have they been changed?  Using linuxcoin-v0.2-final persistence installed on a USB drive if that helps?

Thanks,

Greetings all,

Hope you've all had a long wonderful day in the mines, or markets and are ready to sit back relax and potentially make millions of dollars.

What I am proposing is that we set up a website and service which also has a physical magnetically charged card.  When someone uses the card it takes funds from an account(which can be automatically funded from Dwolla or the like) that they hold with us, buys bitcoins, transfers those bitcoins to the recipient's account and then sells them back instantly converting them into dollars again.  And for this service we undercut the credit card companies for providing the exact same service, and charge only 1.618% instead of the industry average of 3%.

With merchants being able to receive funds in less than an hour and also pay less of a fee, it could catch on big and be pushed on customers by businesses who want to save some bucks.

Thanks for the link to stackexchange, I definitely like site, and what it's about.  The only advantage that google moderator had over it is that the interface is more intuitive, and it's more about voting on other people's questions as being relevant and/or in need of answers.

Side note, still only day 2, and I'm at 77 votes from 17 people.  Shocked

Other than that, stackexchange looks great too, except I'm not the moderator of it  Tongue

Thanks again for the feedback guys

Watercooling 3x6950's
by

on 25/08/2011, 15:18:43 UTC
Greetings all,

I have a mining rig built with:

1) Coolermaster HAF 932 Case = http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6811119160

2) 3x XFX Radeon HD6950 Graphics cards = http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] _-14150523

mounted with,

3) 3x Swiftech HD6900 Heatsink and GPU waterblock combos = http://www.swiftech.com/hd6900-hs.aspx

4) Swiftech H20-220 Edge cooling kit = http://www.swiftech.com/h2o-220-edge.aspx

I posted this on Tom's Hardware and was recommended to get another radiator

My questions now are:

1) What parts do I need for the extra radiator, and where do I get them?

2) Why would I jump into such a complicated watercooling project being that I'm a complete noob?

Here's some pictures of the equipment and the setup, any help would be very appreciated.

Re: Flexcoin is LIVE to everyone!

Hello again,

The idea to attract "big money" is on the whole, a good thing.  It shows that people are still willing to take the substantial risk of loss on investment to convert to bitcoin, and this ballsiness is important if bitcoin is to succeed.

That being said, the way I understand the fee/discount system is that it's stealing from the poor and giving to the rich.  People wishing to transfer small amounts out of their flexcoin accounts are going to have to pay a minimum fee, making the withdrawal of  micro-payments impractical for the little guys.

To be fair, I really like the site, and what it's about, the thing is that me, the average user, is being turned off by the fees being unevenly weighted.

EG: Say I want to withdraw just 1BTC from my account, the minimum I'd have to pay is .01BTC (1%)  <- this is a lot.  These fees are then given to those who have a ton of  BTC just sitting in their accounts as "discounts", hence, stealing from the poor and giving to the rich.  Something fundamentally wrong here, but easily corrected by charging a fair flat rate.

Like I said before, instead of charging a fee and returning 70% of those fees as discounts, (a large part going to the BTC wealthy,) simply charge 30% of the fee you're trying to charge in the first place.

EG: 0.003BTC or 0.15% on all withdrawals.

Hi Kbundy,

You realize it's free to transfer flexcoin to flexcoin ...  tell the person you want to transfer that .0000001 to his flexcoin address.

You realize that in order for that person to convert that .0000001 to USD should they ever desire, they would be the one to pay the fee.

Greetings all,

I propose that instead of charging the fees that you do(.01 or .5%) and then give back the fees to the people, just charge a lesser fee in the first place.  The way I understand it, you are keeping 30% of the fees, and returning 70% to the customer.  How about instead, you charge 30% of the fee you want to charge in the first place, eliminating this extra step, and making it a more fair price for the service, and get more people to join.  Just a suggestion, but it is rather logical.

Greetings all,

First off, love the site, very clean and simple to use, looks great as well.

I know someone was talking about miner fees earlier in this thread, but I don't fully understand what that means, can you please explain it to me?

As for this one, I believe you are underestimating the potential of this new economy severely.  Think about it this way...  Upon the creation of e-mail, there were very few users, and the value of such a service must have been similar to what you believe the value of BTC is now.  People looked at it as a useful tool, as BTC is now, but they never anticipated that it would ever be able to compete with the U.S. Postal Service and stand alone.  Today, everyone uses e-mail, it has been a tremendous success for both businesses and customers alike.  This will be the same for BTC.  As of now, there are few users by proportion to the population, but everyday that number grows.  At a certain point BTC will be able to stand alone by itself, and current fiat currencies will be worth about the value of the U.S. Postal Service is now.

Before leaving a comment, you could have spent more than 15 minutes thinking about it first.

Call me crazy, but I believe craziness is defined as trying the same thing over and over and expecting different results.  I'm here to try something new.  Those who are uneducated about the failures of fiat currency are crazy and they don't even know it.
