After over 18h I still can't get the wallet to sync with the new 0.8.7.4-unk QT Windows build.

yeah, sync takes forever! And there is only the 20000 blocks...
And it looks like wallet needs a lot of time to start with the downloaded blockchain.
MAC address! Those are always unique to the machine.
MAC can be easely changed. The most unic thing is compilaton of hardware Id's.
I like this one. Not difficult to remember and quite recognizable.
I like algo change idea. As for now it is mostly for ASICs mining.
So coin loses the ability to attract new users.
Algo must be something that perfectly work with GPU and CPU, to exclude mass botnet mining and ASIC mining.
And transfer must be quick and simple, cause Zerocoin implementation is more important now.
Cryptonight is nice, GPU and CPU hash speed is not vary greatly, But I think it will not be easy task.
May be it will be simplier to go to something like X11, Myriad or Groestl.

yes, blockchain reload with old Wallet
1. delete chain, NOT wallet.dat
or just starts the old wallet, then closing immediately.
and then start the new wallet, then runs, too!!

I can confirm thit method works on WinXP 32 bit.
Just exit from the old wallet before it connects to nodes, but after it created needed files in wallet directory.
Sync stucked on last day (about 900 blocks left), but after adding ypool to nodes, sync ended right. Command - addnode.

Nope, that method do not work right. After restarting the wallet, it lost some blocks, sync stuck on block 47696. After 3 minutes wallet crashes.

Looks like the devs need to clarify the situation? Is it 30 days after block 400,000 or is it 30 days after minting (pre or post algo change) ?
As I understood from the first post, POS will start when money supply will be more then 400 000 DMD.
Not after 400 000 block.
Can you explain the difference ?result of the - getinfo command in the wallet:

"blocks" : 403436,
"moneysupply" : 387564.87036400,
.....
Looks like some blocks cost less then 1 dmd. Maybe it was in the first version of Diamond.

As for the wallet You can make 2 wallets - one for everyday use and one for your savings.
Just keep it in the container like Truecrypt. Truecrypt has option to close containers if you forgot.
Make backups of this wallets on usb flash, DVD or magneto-optical disks and clouds.
I think backup of truecrypt container will be safer then only wallet.
