Re: Bitcoin for Iceland

Having the computing power per capita that they do, Iceland could well fork a blockchain and if a large percentage of the citizens mine for it, it would be secure fairly quick.  All the benefits of the original bitcoin blockchain, but customized for the island population

Unfortunately ripple does not count any more after Bitcoin was invented

How do you figure?  I'm not trolling, I'm not *that* familiar with ripple

As long as the Bitcoin network continues to be secure and is not banned by governments it will definately survive.

Even if it is banned by governments it will still survive, and the price per coin will go up

With Open-Transactions servers (especially once Fellowtraveler implements federated/no-trust server protocol) individuals should be able to issue their own currencies, backed in bitcoin (for things like commodified trust-tokens) or whichever consumable/commodity they choose

For example, if I have involvement in my community, and people know the amount of fruits/veggies that I bring to the farmer's markets during summer/fall, then I can issue a currency backed in my produce (and dried/canned goods during the off-season).  For larger, non-geographically-local communities, it can be backed in bitcoin (since the blockchain is publicly auditable, the reserves can be verified, but because OT uses blinded tokens, all transactions are untraceable.  Only when one goes to the issuer to redeem the currency token for bitcoin does the exchange show in the blockchain again)

Things don't seem to have changed much in my absence over the last couple of months.

Oh hey, we've got a "ignore user" feature now, that's cool!

Question1: how can I trust the vendor that he will accept the transaction once I send the money?

As BioMike said, if you can prove that you've sent the money, we can act on this. Another thing is that we're planning some other features that will make this easier and safer, but these things take time, as we not only need to code them, but also make sure that it complies with law in Poland.

Would it be possible to add all SEPA currencies, or is that a complicated process?
I would like to offer some coins in CHF and NOK would be good-

It isn't complicated, but we would need to see that there is actual demand for trades in these currencies. Then we could consider adding them.

Yes, I have some NOK that I'm looking to convert into BTC, and the seller on the otc that's offering BTC for NOK has a gpg key that won't work to encrypt messages.

With regards to the "genie out of the bottle" how do you propose to get a critical mass to call it something else besides "bitcoin"?  Yes, if/when nation-states start their own branches/protocols they can/will call them something else, but try changing the name of "bitcoin" and people will look at you saying "what?"

"Umm. . .you know, bitcoin"
"Oh yeah!"

So an Irishman walks OUT of a pub....

*gasp* the hate speech!

Believe it or not, I have actually been banned from a forum for that joke (along with all the "dead-baby" cracks)

Off-topic: What's the joke about "So an Irishman walks OUT of a pub" ? Based on Bitcoin Porn's reference to Mexicans, is "OUT" a nasty insult in the Mexican language?

Irish are all slavering drunks of course.

Many jokes start with "so a [insert type here] walks into a pub..."

I will say though, cultural, social, and religious context type humor that is directed at no specific person, but rather groups..   wouldn't that already be something not showing up here.  Isn't that some kind of hate speech depending on the group?

Thinking of this thread in that way, would it be okay for someone to have some kind of Anti-Jew movement for Bitcoin on the forums protected by their free speech?  Whatever it is people tend to think "free speech" is on a private forum anyways lol.

If hate speech does or does not work for groups, why or why not the same for individuals protection?   Insulting directly is the ultimate hate speech.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around a home schooled guy setting up a private school using public school education materials... Though he is from Louisville KY. My condolences on that part btw.

lol, yes. You might add "I'm still trying to wrap my head around a home schooled guy with a diploma mill degree setting up a private school using public school education materials..."

burn.  Gotta love the diploma mills.  Alas, in a free-market, as long as there are stupid people in the world, there will be a need for "services" rendered by folks such as this

There's this crazy thing called "block user"

Moderate yourselves folks, you don't have to keep reading bullshit you don't want to, and you don't have to outsource the task to a "moderator".  Folks have better things to do than babysit us, ya dig?

So. . .what about an intro in the forum teaching people how to use ad-block and or user blocks?  Help train individuals in moderating themselves.

That would be good for the crazy anti-statists in the group, as well as the mainstream investors/business folk that may be coming in

Mostly because we are still below what would be considered a version Smiley going forward we will give it a label number and work on staging server to keep this off public site

Doing final changes,  live at 9:30 EST sorry for long delay,  seriously took WAY longer than expected

So you only commit to your repository at v1.0? Makes total sense!

You're a so called "banking institution" and by nature you should not afford yourself this type of downtime, especially when it could have been avoided completely!

Supply/demand yo.  Take your business elsewhere, or start up a service that offers competitive alternatives

Bitching about service in a state controlled/regulated/monopolized market is one thing. . .let's face it, no one else can currently build highways.  But in the bitcoin economy, if you don't like a business' practices, you can take your business to a competitor, or become that competitor

It's all voluntary on a free market, throwing "should" around isn't really where it's at here

Just saying
