BitInstant. Should change name to BitNEVER. Can't create account. RAGE
by

Ive been using Bitinstant for over a year now and have mostly satisfied with them. However since launching the new site I am totally unable
to use their services. I don't understand this, since I (and people like me) make very frequent transactions. They must be losing serious $.

The problem is this: I attempted to create an account ~3 weeks ago. Never got confirmation emails. Contacted support and they *eventually* let me know that they had the incorrect email address for me (one character wrong. likely my fault, but it happens, right?). They informed me that they could not change my email to the correct one. I've since tried to create a new account using different information and I get a message that the account exists or that my identity can not be confirmed. I've tried changing every variable (different email, different address, etc) but nothing works. This is maddening. The bottom line seems to be that I can not do business with Bitinstant.

I started using another service which is more convenient but also more expensive. I'd really like to use BI again but this stuff with the account is insane. Any advice or response from Bitinstant is appreciated.

I used to use Bitinstant to mt. Gox and then fun, fun, fun; however now mt gox looks like it's being DDOSd and Bitinstant's options have changed. Virwox? What the hell? Do I have to be a wizard for this? I just want to buy some coin. Can somebody point me in the right direction? I have been buying coin for over a year now with Bitinstant at Wal-Mart, etc with no problems. I assume this has something to do with the government and I'm really pissed!!!

thanks very much

Mt Gox account number changed??
by

I notice my account number at Gox has changed to something I don't recognize. Could not find info w/ search. Anyone know anything about this?
I sent Gox a request but they are sorta slow.

Thanks very much.

EDIT: looking at it again, the account number is same but preceded by M64 and has an X at the end. Huh?

Not sure which number to use for Bitinstant deposit info. Perhaps BI can chime in?

Anybody help a brother out?

Sorry if this is a dumb question.

I start the process on Bitinstant site.
>enter information very carefully
>click Submit
>ZipZap page comes up. Fill in fields carefully
>print out order confirmation and take to store per instructions
>told multiple times "invalid last name"
>start over, do everything again with care
>again told 'invalid last name'
>did this AGAIN as above and went to different store. they entered my info carefully. again, told "invalid last name"
>did this from my iphone IN the store, in front of clerk and still got the same.
tried to call moneygram but can't get to actual rep.

Update: I tried again with new info, and was told again, "invalid last name". The wal-mart lady even showed me the terminal. Not sure what to do.

Bitinstant/ZipZap/Moneygram problem
by

Wasted an hour trying to fund my Bitinstant order today. The Moneygram people kept saying "invalid last name". This is insane. I've already done 2 or 3 successful transfers and now this. they even pulled up my account with the phone number. crazy.
I am starting over on the off-chance that it was my mistake but it's so irritating.

Thanks guys. I did not watch the video. The instructions seemed pretty clear but I asked the clerk and things went downhill from there.
I had to get on the Batphone twice to India before the clerk was able to pull up the transaction. It went through but was such a hassle (in time and money) compared to my usual bank thing.

BitInstant bank deposit no longer an option?

I tried to purchase through BI today and was only able to go through the Moneygram options. I usually do cash deposit at a Bank of America.
The Moneygram turned into a huge hassle. I had to go to CVS, nobody knew how to do it, felt like a deadbeat, and it took almost an hour for them to figure it out.

Am I missing something or has BI changed the deposit options?
This was a real pain.

I bought several Casascius 1BTC coins a while back and passed them out at work.

Good idea. I think I'll do that.
I am still very new to this, but it's been a lot of fun so far. My son and I are learning together.

My son bought his first coin today

I have been using Bitcoin to introduce my 10 year old to the principles of economics- markets, currency, government mischief, etc- so today for his final exam we made a purchase of Bitcoin with his dog-walking money. He understands that it may go up or down, but still he is very excited about being involved in this market. For show and tell next week he is going to bring some material on Bitcoin to share with his class.

This has been an excellent way to teach him about money, value, work, and investments. It's also a surprisingly fun father and son activity. He is already referring to himself as "a currency speculator." LOL.

I appreciate the effort Bitinstant has made to fix my mistake. And I don't mean to nitpick but it might be better not to mention customer name and exact amount deposited.
Thanks to everyone- Charlie, Bitinstant, forum members, community- for staying on this.

I just took my 10 year old son to the bank today to make his first cash deposit/purchase of Bitcoins. He is very excited.

Hi folks. I appreciate all the replies and support on this. I want to make absolutely clear that I know I'm a moron for making this mistake and I take responsibility for it. It wasn't a King's ransom, but I'm not wealthy by any means so it isn't something I can just walk away from either. I appreciate that Bitinstant has promised to resolve it, but of course I'm still just waiting waiting waiting and haven't really heard if there is any progress or if I'm just screwed etc etc.

I suppose the 'bright side' to this is that my mistake exposes some weakness in the system that can be fixed. One thing I would suggest: once I 'submit' my Bitinstant form I get taken to the Trustcash part; however the Bitinstant form clears and there is no real order detail on Trustcash. It would help tremendously if the TC invoice read "You are depositing X amount into Y account and your email address is Z. Are you sure this information is correct?" If somebody (like me) makes a mistake there is really no way to tell until the money doesn't show up.

Actually I'm most disappointed with Gox. I contacted them immediately and they basically said it's not our problem. I wish they had at least offered to freeze the transaction amount or contact the account holder on my behalf until it's worked out.

Just want to get past this.
