Maintenance took quite a bit longer than expected due to MySQL being very unhappy about moving to a new drive, which interfered with time I had set aside for my day job.

Pool is back online now, and the new drive is screaming fast compared to the old one!  Some additional updates were run on the pool, so please keep an eye out for any display glitches in your stats.

Now that the hardware and software has been upgraded, I can return to working on the features I wanted to get done last weekend.

Rename worker is disabled until the hardware switch.  The default pushpool method of storing workers in the share database is by username as a text field.  Meaning to accurately swap a worker's name, the entire share database needed updating.

With tomorrow's maintenance, I'm changing the pushpool software to use worker and user IDs rather than text names, and the ability to rename workers will be restored.

The pool is back up and the idle miner warnings I was getting before are gone.

Pool will be down for approximately 5 minutes to prune all the confirmed block shares out of the DB.  This will hopefully allow the pool to keep up with the current hash rate until the new hardware arrives tomorrow.

There was a problem with the long polling monitor earlier this morning which has been corrected.  I was also making a few tweaks to prepare for what will probably be the final hardware upgrade (solid state drive for the database) this Thursday.  However, the slight backend tweaks should not have produced stale results like what you're referring to.

If you're running a slower miner (CPU/low end GPU), the stale % likely spiked due to the long polling monitor problem.

Yes.  Those errors should not be seen again, at least until we find another block.  I'm reworking the block calculation code right now so it won't lock up the database during calculations.  Depending on which happens first (completing the rewrite or a block being found), we may have another set of RPC/Miner idle errors for about 2 minutes when we find our next block.

Given all the costs you need for insane case, solid cooling, then the risk you're taking of slamming all of that heat/power into such a tight space, I've found it is smarter to just build out 2x seperate machines.  Decent off the shelf cases that are sub $60 can handle 2x 5970's rather well.  The asus EVO motherboard is fairly cheap but works great.  I spend about $100 more than you would spend trying to force it all into a single setup.

Also side bonus, if for some reason the box eats it, only 1/2 your mining power is down.

No. You don't want a PSU to run 24/7 so close to full capacity.

And you should consider getting an 80 Plus Gold PSU instead, like Seasonic X-850 or Corsair AX850.

I use that exact PSU in two 2x5970 rigs (CPU is also Sempron 140). Total power drain is around 650W without OC and slightly above 700W with clocks around 850Mhz.

heh, i noticed that too. and the site reports a total share count of 0 on it. but the personal shares were stored correctly and the payout was correct. yay!
