Well, I got my win, the chain of suffering is broken, and I did not expect it at all, the moment he had to give back the 1st place I thought it was over but, well, seems like something did change, I don't know what but it won't make me double down on another win this season.

I'm glad you've done it, finally.

Now, on the McLaren move, this bs has to stop, they are turning the whole thing into a farce.

Well, then I guess that this image fits very good here too (I've found it on the internet yesterday after the race) :

Re: Re-download bitcoin core?

Actually, this problem mainly occurs when transferring files over 50 GB. Since I downloaded the Bitcoin core, which is about 600 GB, this may be the reason for the problem.

What is of big size is the blockchain, not bitcoin core itself. And the blockchain is split into a shitload of smaller files (128 MB), you are in no danger of having 50 GB size.
Your windows' backup file or some game related data files are more likely to have been causing issues.

Re: How do I connect to servers?
by
NeuroticFish
on 07/09/2025, 15:04:49 UTC
I think I could use Electrum but I can't connect to any server.

Once - some years ago - I had a similar issue after an Electrum update (which back then it meant for me new settings).
I will start with the fact that I prefer to use Electrum in portable mode, which ensures the Electrum data and settings are in the place of my choice (that's why I had new settings too back then).

What I'd do: I'd get Electrum portable and start it in a folder of my choice (it should not be directly the desktop because it will create more folders and may confuse you). This would ensure new settings in case you've missed something. And this may also mean new popups from your Windows or Antivirus in case you forgot some setting/click you've done). And give it more time to connect, just in case. When I was in trouble it took much more minutes until it connected.

Re: Why is the Transaction Fee Ratio So High for Small Transfers in Electrum?
by
NeuroticFish
on 07/09/2025, 14:51:39 UTC
Does the calculation of this transaction fee follow any consistent pattern or general rule? Could you perhaps illustrate it with a concrete example?

The tx fee is proportional to tx size. And tx size is determined by the number of inputs and outputs.
For a normal tx sent to one recipient plus your change address (so 2 recipients) what matter the most is the number of inputs.
Let's say it's more expensive to spend a bag full of cents than spending an 100$ bill.

In Electrum you can do View->Show Coins and then in the coins tab you can see your inputs and the addresses they are residing in.

Re: Do Not Update Windows 11 (KB5063878 & KB5062660)
by

on 07/09/2025, 10:32:43 UTC
Unfortunately I'm stuck on Windows 10, my PC doesn't allow me to upgrade to 11, I don't want to use the trick because then it won't do the updates for me

What do you mean by trick? Technically even though it says it doesn't support win 11, you can just make a bootable pendrive with win 11 iso and install win 11 on your pc. But that would be another topic.

From what I've researched some months ago on the topic you need to trick Win11 installer (regedit, not tried) or get directly a hacked one (bad idea, obviously not tried) in order to install on a computer with too old CPU.
I would be overly surprised if the official Win11 ISO would work out of the box on an older PC just because it's installed from an USB stick.

Crazy pole for Verstappen.
I don't think he will have chance tomorrow unless the papaya's they will collide.

Neither do the bookies!
I'm glad I bet as always on his win and didn't have to take him at 2.90.
It's still Lando at 2.35, Max at 2.90 and Oscar at 3.20, probably the closest ever a top 3 was this season.

I will look a bit into the specials, some insurance if he doesn't win, the single bet on McLaren at 1.45 is not attractive enough, some H2H but the odds are so low for almost everyone, Leclerc is just  1.17 against Hamilton, there must be something of value in there.. Grin

I've just watched a rerun of the quali and from the smile on Max' face it's either that he was incredibly lucky, either they've found - at least for this race - the correct setting to make the car both fast and stable. I tend to balance to the second option, given that this time I didn't hear him complain at all about his car.
Plus, given the awful performance on Racing Bulls cars, I'd think that they may have tried similar settings there too - which don't work there (sorry for Hadjar).

The Ferraris are also not far in the mix, maybe the race will become interesting - at least in tyre strategies if nothing else.

Good luck @stompix with your bets!

SSD has decreased. Now I want to go back to Windows 10.

The question on Bitcoin is answered (copy your date dir to an external drive or usb stick).

What I want to add is that in mid-October Win10 will go out of support and then you may want to upgrade again. Plus, I would give more attention/research on what could have caused your SSD issues and your lag, just blaming it on Win11 makes no sense to me. So you may want to reconsider this "going back to Win10". I am telling this because I find your "solution" a wasted effort: I expect you'll go to Win11 soon.
Of course, it was just an advice; you do as you think it fits, it's your hardware and your time.

Even after 60 laps the top 4 places haven't changed since the starting grid.

Actually they've switched for a short period, at start.
Max was very lucky, the safety cars came at the right time for him, given that he always had softer tyres than the competitors. And the fact that Lando also DNF... incredible.
I felt sorry for Lando and Charles, but the joy of seeing Hadjar on the podium have compensated that greatly.

And at some point during the race I noticed that I was incredibly stupid: I should have been betting on Safety Car appearance. I rarely bet on F1, and that's usually for safety car.
Ah, and yeah, I was wrong, but I am happy I was wrong. it was no rain and still not a dull race.

Verstappen is @8.00x now and was around the same odds in the previous race after qualifying was done but at his home track is unreal. Since he has won so many races there over his career.

There are some chances for rain too, I've read, and that may favor him too.
But they've said there will be rain at quali too and I think it didn't (sadly I've missed most of it).

What amazed me was Isack Hadjar getting ahead of George Russell and ended up 4th on the grid.

Yep, I've noticed that both Racing Bulls are in top10 and Isack managed an superb #4 in front of Russell and the 2 Ferraris.
Let's see how good he manages to keep his track position, but I don't really have high hopes on that matter.
I fear that unless it will actually rain, it will be a rather dull race...

Re: Improving Security: From Ledger Nano S to Tangem and Trezor 3
by
NeuroticFish
on 30/08/2025, 18:58:38 UTC
I don't really know Tangem, but I do have a Trezor Safe 3 which have replaced my old Ledger Nano S for all I've needed.

Since you've already bought the Tangem, I recommend you start using it and see if it does all you need.
* They boast it creates a private key that doesn't leave the device. I recommend you try to set it up - if possible - in a way you can do a separate backup (eg on paper) of that private key. (And of course, keep that paper safe).
* I am unsure, but Tangem may not be HD wallet. If so, that's a minus if you plan to also spend coins, since (at least in theory) address reuse (same address uses to send and receive coins) is not as safe (and quantum proof) as getting new change address on every spend. Probably nothing to fear now, but still something to keep in mind.

After using it a little, you can make a decision if you need something more or something different. Meanwhile Black Friday may kick in with some promotions too Wink

Re: Was a friend of mine scammed or hacked somehow?
by

o.k thank you, so he was essentially scammed. I just sent him a message to no longer touch that wallet, and to import his seed onto a new wallet on a separate device.

As the others said, a clipboard virus is not a threat to the actual wallet.
However, your statement sounds like he is using a hot wallet.

And imho keeping such amounts of money (1000s of $) in hot wallet is a disaster waiting to happen.
Consider getting him acquire and use a hardware wallet.

Happy Birthday to my Beast.

Hmm, I've missed this. Incredible how fast the time flies.
Happy anniversary and enjoy it many more years!

I’m seeing online that people who actually tried to accept the offer are being told that it was a bug in the system, so I guess Tesla isn’t trying to buy them back after all.

I've never heard of auto-makers doing massive buy back of their cars. Imho such a move would be incredibly bad for business. Even recalls for fixes are expensive, but buy back.. no.

Re: XMR delisting and fate of assets of low-active holders not interested in news?
by
NeuroticFish
on 30/08/2025, 18:17:56 UTC
Let's say a person is on vacation and doesn't worry about anything and doesn't read the news. And at this time, the exchange where he keeps Monero is delisting Monero. And time passes, the user visits the exchange - and what happens with his amounts on exchange that was be in Monero?

1. This belongs to altcoin discussion
2. As said, cryptocurrencies are meant for self custody, not for keeping them in others' pockets (i.e. exchanges)
3. A proper exchange will announce a delisting quite some time before it happens, then will delist i.e. will not allow deposits and trades and after quite some more time will also stop withdrawals. All this takes time, usually months, meaning more time than a non-millionaire's holiday.

So this person's problems are:
- no self custody
- being too lazy to check his assets for months
If so.. bad combination and bad luck.

Re: Password Managers Vulnerability
by
NeuroticFish
on 25/08/2025, 19:37:38 UTC
Even if some password managers fixed this specific vulnerability I would stop using them because they are all using some type of cloud service.
Good password manager should be open source and option to store everything locally, or by using your own server and encryption.
I would suggest checking out KeePass and some of it's forks.

KeePass is wonderfully great for local use.
And you're right, many of them rely on cloud.

For now I still use bitwarden exactly because it's open source. I need a solution that works on my home PC, my work PC and my mobile too.
And if you really want to, you can probably host your own bitwarden server too. I chose to be more careful in locking the browser extension right after use.

I've added the only clearnet node from @Pmalek post (I'd feel better if the list would be bigger).
I didn't add this, and it still worked Smiley

It's not unexpected, especially given to the fact that it literally took one second from my (second) low-fee tx being broadcasted from Electrum to be visible on mempool.space
But a few more hardcoded relay nodes... give a nice peace of mind this early in the low-fee "era".

Quote
all[/i] suggestion would be to maybe centralize all this into the first post so the ones even lazier than me (who also have local ElectrumX) can use it.
It was more meant to be my own personal log, it's too experimental to be a complete guide.

LOL, no! My confirmation was supposed to tell it already works pretty much out-of-the box (of course, if you already have bitcoind and fulcrum already in place and a new enough Electrum).
Of course, it's your topic. I am already happy with what I've got.
