Hi! Not able to mine ETH with GTX 1060s 3GB anymore? I am on windows 7 64bit
Currently epoch 230(2.80GB), so if there are Windows tricks to handle the DAG files (increase page file etc) there are most probably info about it, at many places.

I can mine with 3GB cards using Linux for some more time. I forgot the epoch value when Etherium Classic stopped working (Was it 231 or 237? damn that I did not wrote that somewhere).

Re: 8-GPU rig in 4U rack case

If the external width is 485mm, measuring on screen, that means c-c for the cards of about 42mm, 2.1 times normal PCI-PCI distance.
If you have fanless miner card where the cooler flange fills the gap to the next card (and fin direction is designed for that type of airflow), fine, but dual fan GPUs does not even fit (or it's fans will only suck the backplate of its neighbor).

With 60mm c-c you could place dual fan 8GPU on risers in a deep 19" case (mobo and PSU needs to be placed in front of the GPUS and careful design of the airflow is needed). There were some designed like this mentioned before.

Redesigned my now only open air rig to have 80mm c-c and turned off the circulating fan in the basement, now up to 57C but it's very silent now. Living near a server case, not that appealing...

How many USB ports you have on you mobo doesn't mean anything in the context of Nests an Acorns.
Except when you have a mining mobo with USB connectors instead of 1xPCIE slots Wink

When in history were Mining GPUs connected to a real USB (x2 x3) connector (ignore eGPU through Thunderbolt)?   Roll Eyes

My 9x 1060 3G (Micron) makes 64 at 70W each (stable over long time, 125 core 1350 memory). They made 74 at 90W when tested.
Running at 60W each was not that stable.

Profit after power is very important now so making the most/W is the game. If you need twice the power per hash with a 580 compared to a 1060, the AMD cards will start to be landfill material, since total profits will not increase.

That doesn’t answer the question of WHY. It says that the 2x has USB ports. And doesn’t say anything about the 4x lacking them. Why does one have it and the other does not? What was the reason for not including them on the 4x? Why are they necessary at all?
Read.
One have a PCI "switch" for communication to GPUs on rises (The USBs) and the other one only communicate over the PCI bus.
Two different products, you choose which one you want. Roll Eyes

I would really appreciate taking advantage of my rigs Hashrate, Prior to an Algorithm becoming popular, and completely mainstream...
When an algo is possible to use on SMOS, it's mainstream, by definition.

What happened to the trade volume yesterday?
From fragments of a BTC to 13 BTC, allofit on HitBTC.
It helps to keep the value stable at least.

China only buys like $120 billion from us , so in the long run tarrifs hurt them more.  They will have to come to the table by mid 2019.
First the tariffs hurts US consumers who have no domestically produced alternatives to choose from.
The reduced consumption will hurt US retailers before they hurt Chinese producers.

I's a comical misconception that China will pay the tariffs to the US government Cheesy
See it as a 25% sales tax instead...

Grey importing Chinese goods trough Taiwan, or even Europe?

Hmm, just looked at the WTM figures around Nethash and Ex volume.
As it looks right now my 9x10603G rig making 60Mh/s would add 0.2%, i.e. you only need to borrow about 5000 1060 GPUs to get 51+% (current Nethash reported as 32Gh/s).
The Ex volume the last 24h looks to be only 0.02 BTC, isn't that about the volume of a game of Monopoly?

Everything have to start somewhere, but this is really small.

My personal profit (I trade mined coins to stable asic coin) is higher on ETH/ETC and BTG at the moment (so I don't care much), but I got some time to realize that OC was tricky to dial in with ProgPoW.

Have the profit gone below $5 yet?

It's very sad to see a "200 mH/s" rig not even making $1 today (on any coin)  Sad

Havning a single rig of 9 1060 built in the worst of times (Feb 2018) I'm far from breaking even (mined coins+sale value of cards - cost of cards).
I make use of the 1kW of heat so I deceive myself by not counting the electricity and even then it's a long time before the figures will be black.
I even bought coins for the value of two cards to make the numbers look more interesting (and those coins have not dropped in value, yet) Smiley

But it starts to feel a bit stupid to jump between coins when the difference is a few cent per day (time lost by looking at the coin profits is worth more)...

The hope is to (eventually) beat an index fund, but if you start in Feb2018 you have no chance to get into black until the next boom, if there will be one.
I have at least raised the temp in my basement, making the whole house warmer.

i think go to mine other algo can make profit more than eth for 1060 3g
With Micron I jump between BTG, ETH and Monero currently.
With slower memory I cannot see how ETH would be relevant to mine today (other ethash coins might be profitable some minutes per day).

it took some time since I was in game, Is it still possible to mine ethereum on gtx 1060 3 gb ? Im still getting an error with DAG size.
With Linux and Win7 (IIRC) it still works.

Re: Whats the biggest mining motherboard?
by
NiklasFalk

And the largest number of video cards is 13 on the same BIOS IIRC (mining cards without video is something else).

But how are the newer bioses for CPUs with a larger number of lanes than 16 (e.g. ThreadRipper)?

The number of physical slots is not important since simple $15 splitters solve that (not counting the reduced MTBF due to more minimal quality items).
I guess that PCI switches (those with $80 switch chips, e.g. the one with 8 USB riser connections) does not increase the number of video cards to the bios.

It would be really interesting if GPUs could be flashed into a "miner card" without video out (from the bios perspective). Then there could be more options for building 10+ card setups.

With only two rigs my experience is limited but it seems like 12 card rigs is a sweetspot when you know how to setup a balanced rig.
Testing you way forward with parts and settings, a 2-4 card rig is much more appropriate.

I tried to use 10 (on Z270P-D3) before i noticed that that mobo did not allow more than 9 (but one GPU got "ROI" by RMA so that solved itself).

Re: Do PCIe expansion ports work?
by
NiklasFalk

Works, but it does not make you bios handle any more videocards (8-13 depending on bios etc)
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2204115.msg33127677#msg33127677 (some testing with how it shifts the PCI addresses.
I have no mining cards to see if those could be added on top (as with the 19 slot Mobos which can take 13 video cards max).

The Acorn Nest X2G could be something else to consider. A lot more money but the PCI switch (there was another 8 USB card for about $100) might give other max number of video cards (but maybe not, it's probably the leftover lanes from CPU that dictates the number).

2 days and still all BTG are "on exchange" wallet. Its time to change pool...
Got some BTG exchanged today, but it's several days apart (and last one was stuck for more than a week).
So things could move faster.
No such issues with exchange of ETH though, that gets processed several times a day.
