So just an opinion here, I definitely agree they failed in rolling communication out to the home miner, at almost every turn. Honestly they shouldn't have even held a sale on August 31, but they must have thought they could get things done as they did in the past
Now quality of the order we have heard about aside, anyone who hasn't been able to order from minerwarez, didn't put in the leg work. We all saw the main site direct us there, the minerwarez site did give the option to receive an email update when it went live, and I received it. I had an order in on the 31st but no money changed hands and I felt fine ordering from the distributor and cancelling my Canaan order, and if you wanted a unit you could have done the same.

Where was the notice to go to Minerwarez?  I did not get it.  Once my order was in at Canaan I assumed I was waiting for an email with a bitcoin address. Only after not getting anything did I come back here (and that was after going to the support page on Canaan and seeing nothing).

This is on them, not me, nor the hundreds (I suspect) of others who are still not aware.

From the day I placed my order I checked in on it once a day and sent requests for an address, by doing this I saw when they posted about the distributor on the Canaan.io homepage. From there I went ahead with trying to get a miner in my hands asap, including in the meantime being a part of the group buy that never was.
Like I said they failed at commuion, but if you just sit back and wait on things to work out, you'll probably be disappointed.
The same goes with when I noticed others with tracking info, with orders placed after my own, I fired off emails u til I got my tracking info. It only took 2. I guess the point is follow up in things and don't expect any company to take care of you

These 6 were to be my first ASICs, guess I made some assumptions that won't happen again.  At least I have enough power supplies to last a while

In the crypto world, it pays to be the squeaky wheel i guess.

Actually, until about 2 hours ago when I started reading the latest posts, I was under the impression that Canaan was still going to fulfill the small orders, that we did not need to goto Warez.

Maybe I missed it?  Maybe its just late and I'm tired, but did Canaan explicitly state all direct orders below 60 units are dead?

Nice,  I just got this email, Avalon still spinelessly not even apologizing to us 'small 'fish.  No direction at all to those orders in the system.

Steve, if you had training in communication and customer service, you need to ask for your money back.

"Serve the small miner" my ass.  If you cared one tiny bit you would have supplied your 'distributor' with a list of confirmed orders from us 'small indivudual's and served us before opening the website.

From our good buddy Steve:

Due to the surge in BTC value and interest in Bitcoin Mining our best efforts to keep the Avalon 741 in stock fell short. Global sales outside China are growing more rapidly than we ever imagined, and we expect this trend to continue in the future.

As we approach the end of 2017 and ready ourselves for the next year, we have instituted a few changes in our sales process that we hope will lead to a less bumpy and more predictable supply for you.

We will continue to serve the small individual miner, but instead of servicing these customers from our webshop at www.canaan.io we are directing these customers to distributors. Our first distributor in the US is up and running at http://canaan-creative.acemlnc.com/lt.php?s=a418561c03e339409796c5ad26d5d47e&i=5A48A4A25 In the future we will add and annouce others.

Larger orders, 60 units and more, will still be handled by the store or by mailing me at steve@canaan.io .

We are currently in the process of fulfilling the backlog of larger orders and so the webshop will show a "sold out" status for our bulk product. During Golden week ( Sept28th-Oct8 ) we will be tidying up the shop. I will be working over the holiday so please feel free to mail me if you have any questions and the shop will re open after Oct 8.

Steve

Just opened mine up- doesn't look beat up as NSX described but it was not in a bag.

Well to be fair i have 6, and 2 are ok.  Still no bag but look ok.  can see dust, but not as bad as others.  Its like a magic lottery i guess, lol.

What is the name of the company that sent you the junk?

Minerwarez?

.

"Once Canaan starts looking into this and comments it is going to be VERY interesting. Until they do is best to start minimizing speculation and finger-pointing until more is known."

What previous action by Avalon would lead you to believe they will communicate?

This is a seriously messed up company that is throwing a couple bones to people to placate while sticking it in the rear end of a lot of others.

I personally spent about 4 hours trying to get through their computer systems on August 31, and managed to do so.

Never so much as a single email.

Now they say we are SOL.

What a lousy company you are avalon!

To be honest I have only had Antminers for the past two years and never purchased one of these newer Avalons.  But in general the three most common barriers to using btc asics at home are:

   1. Electricity - do you have enough watts and amps to power one, let alone three.  And are the circuits where you need them.
   2. Noise - Don't know about these, but the noise from an S9 is deafening.  Where I live there are no basements and it gets too hot in the garage.  So I have no where to put these things where my family would not kill me.
   3. Heat - you need to be able to exhaust the heat outside and provide relatively cool air to the intake side of the fan(s).  That's not always an easy or cheap environment to create.  It depends on your house.

So if you can handle those three things go for it.  I mined in my office and still do with gpu rigs.  But once the ASICs got to the S5's they were just too power hungry and hot to keep in the office.  I moved to a local data center for 18 months.  Then the electric rates were too high.  This was when btc was stagnant in the $200-$260 range for a long time. So finally I moved them to Washington State.  They have been there for 18 months or so now.  Good cheap power and it usually does not get too hot.
Anyway - my $0.02.
[/quote]

1,2,and 3 are no problem, but the cost of electricity might make it prohibitive.

Is the hosting facility in Washington public? (as in what  would they charge to host 1 of these?)

Also:  how much network traffic do these use?  The GPU's are minimal

Mining in general has a nominal network requirements.  The Avalons won't be any different than you GPU rigs.

thanks

I have two of the 741's on order (maybe, no BTC address either), but actually see 3 orders   (kept refreshing, so maybe 6 total).

Given my high electric rate, if Bitcoin drops to 3750 my breakeven becomes 1 year.
So I probably need to host these somewhere.

Since I have only done GPU's (these are my first ASIC's), should I mine at home first to understand them?

Also:  how much network traffic do these use?  The GPU's are minimal

And yes, assuming 0 increase in difficulty, too late at night to figure out what affect a rise in difficulty would have on the breakeven with a declining BTC value.

2x Vega FE, 40-42Mh/s each.  3770k, water cooled, two HDDs, two SSDs, 3 fans.

Idle, 90w, full load mining, 511w.

Hi Navy, how the heck do you keep mem clock from dropping to 500?  my 64's are stuck there.

-cvdcc 1000 too low?

Does anybody here have GPU with Hynix H5GC8H24MJ memory? I need test timings. The only card I know using this is MSI RX 580 Gaming X 8GB Hynix. Thanks.

I have this memory in an MSI 470 8gb armor OC.

Strange that a 8/23 release has an 8/8 date

Seems there isn't much quality control with AMD blockchain drivers lol. Is this the same as driver version 17.30.1029?

Yes. Thats why i was questioning it.  The dates differ from the driver and the file

I am on NiceHash and ONLY have Eth/Dag checked

Nicehash will change between any Ethash coin as they see fit. Not under your control. You pick the algo, not the coin. The people that pay Nicehash pick the coin they want to mine.

NiceHash can only mine those algo's that I have checked on my system,

ETH: nicehash stratum mode
"-allpools" option is set, default pools can be used for devfee, check "Readme" file for details.
Watchdog enabled
