So even non-custodial wallets are not safe anymore? There are alternatives out there obviously, but I'm very curious to know why this decision. They could've just disabled the swap feature if trading it was an issue, but I doubt it was...since that was being done through third-party instant exchanges.

I don't think this was the last time but a giant company, Starbucks, started accepting bitcoin and ethereum way back in 2021. This was huge since we know how popular and successful starbucks is all over the world. They enable payment through an app called SPEDN. Customers can hold their cryptocurrency in this app and use it to pay through a qr code they will just present at Starbucks.

It was never through direct payments, though, was it? and if it was, it definitely wasn't through LN cause it was not as popular back then.

If we're talking big companies, then Microsoft did start accepting Bitcoin at some point If I'm not mistaken but ditched it afterwards.

Here is a video of one of their customers already paying with Bitcoin. https://x.com/BitcoinMagazine/status/1923225678603784674?t=owpgTq68-l6qfS3vQToLIQ&s=19

Given that only LN is supported, it would be very interesting to know how many people are using the service on a monthly or a weekly basis since LN is not really as widely used as on-chain transactions.

Coinbase becomes the first crypto company listed on the S&P 500
by

Coinbase becomes the first crypto company to be added to the S&P 500 index (replacing Discover Financial).

And as you would expect, the $COIN stock has soared after the news:

https://www.reuters.com/business/coinbase-shares-jump-addition-sp-500-index-2025-05-13/

Thoughts on which crypto/bitcoin company we might see next? I have seen some people speculating about StrategyBTC but then again, it looks like nothing is guaranteed even if the financial requirements are met:

Beyond the financial requirements, the company must also represent a major sector of the U.S. economy. An index committee ultimately selects firms to ensure sector balance and reflects the overall market

Nakamoto: Another Bitcoin Treasury Company (710m raised)

So just like we have seen a couple of weeks ago... A bunch of companies (Cantor Group, SoftBank and Tether/Bitfinex) launched  "TwentyOne":

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5539468.msg65349810#msg65349810

A company for accumulating bitcoin and providing other bitcoin financial services.

Today, "Nakamoto" with David Bailey as CEO is merging with KindlyMD (a healthcare data company) to start a bitcoin treasury:

https://www.theblock.co/post/353948/david-baileys-nakamoto-to-merge-with-kindlymd-raise-710-million-to-start-bitcoin-treasury-strategy

For those who don't know who David Bailey is, its the founder of "The Bitcoin Magazine" who's also behind The Bitcoin Conference event.

by
OmegaStarScream
on 11/05/2025, 17:27:26 UTC

I cannot check this right now, but if you need to access your funds urgently, you could just use MetaMask with your Trezor and link it to any DEX you want to swap the ETH to whatever token you want.

Re: eXch - instant exchange BTC / LN / XMR / LTC / ETH / ERC20
by
OmegaStarScream

It means a warrant was issued and the hosting provider surrendered the server to them. I still find it quite appalling that an exchange would operate with the vast majority of its funds on a hot wallet. This is the most souring part. I know eXch gave out free CryptoSteels around here - did they not use any of them?

I might be missing something about the timing, but If everything has been seized and shutdown on the 30th... How come OP edited his original post after the incident and announced the closure as if nothing happened? also how come TRM Labs (see above post) claims that transactions were still being processed even after the shutdown on the 30th (which at the time, they didn't knew was law enforcement).

You can tell this is the case here by the fact that not a single US agency is listed in the seized banner.
Maybe that's the reason they couldn't seize the domain names, but somehow managed to get the .onion server.

I'm wondering though: why Germany and the Netherlands? Did they host their servers here? Their company is (was?) registered in Belize, hosting servers in Germany just doesn't make sense.
[/quote]

Yes it appears so:

On April 30, 2025, the Frankfurt am Main Public Prosecutor's Office - Central Office for Combating Internet Crime (ZIT) - and the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) seized the German server infrastructure of the crypto swapping service "eXch" and shut down the platform.

I find it strange that OP logged in a day after the servers were seized to edit his original post, but didn't mention anything about the infrastructure being seized on the 30th.

Re: Tool or service to track BTC wallets
by

on 09/05/2025, 18:58:29 UTC
but the idea would be some service/website/app  where I could put all my wallets at once to track them, the balance and notify me of any transaction/movement

The apps I suggested above should do that and more. BlueWallet as suggested by Zaguru12 should also do that. You can import the master public key of your wallet, and it will notify you whenever there is an incoming transaction in any of your wallet's addresses. You should also be able to import multiple wallets, and not just one.

The law enforcement seized $38 million from exch and it was said to be connected to the Bybit hack. That means exch received the coins from the North Korean hackers but not did not process the transaction and hold it? Or the is just a lie from the prosecutors by seizing the coins from the exchange because we know that the exchange is having money on its own.

From my understanding of the translated statement above and from what I have seen before from ZachXBT and others on Twitter, I don't believe they ever froze any funds from Bybit hack. The seized money probably comes from the exchange hot wallets (their liquidity pools) they used to process users transactions.

Pretty much everything has been said above. but I'd like to add this:

If you also want to track your holdings across different exchanges, or other coins than BTC then you could look into some portfolio trackers like Delta.app, CoinTracking, coinStats, etc.
If you're going to link your exchange account, make sure you're only linking a read-only API key. You wouldn't want to give the app anything else that would allow them to place orders, or withdraw your funds for example.

This is obviously not something I would recommend doing if you value your privacy.

Things might be different for CEOs of crypto companies (exchanges, hardware wallet providers, etc) but for social media influencers out there it's best to be as private as possible as mentioned above, to not be flashy and to also avoid talking about your holdings.

Rumble's (a video-sharing platform) CEO has stated in a tweet that the company will be releasing a non-custodial wallet for both bitcoin and stablecoins later this year (Q3) to compete with Coinbase: https://x.com/chrispavlovski/status/1920587376126042424

I'm not sure why "Coinbase" specifically? because the Coinbase non-custodial wallet is not really that great to start with and it's mainly focused on alts... but he might be referring to the exchange?

It's worth mentioning that the company bought 17.1M$ bitcoin for their treasury back in March and is planning to accumulate more in the future.

I don't really remember when was the last time a very large company started to accept bitcoin directly... so this is pretty nice to see. It's still unclear whether they plan to accept payments through the lightning network, on chain, or both. Hopefully more companies to follow!
