Re: ERC20 rewards from BTC miners - What is the angle?
by

A small Cloud Mining page that spun off from a Canadian VPS provider is making their own ERC20 token: CCT

As an update, they have started to hand out their CCT token rewards to customers that had already purchased their old cloud mining packages. It exists only in their web UI: can't withdraw it, can't swap it, can't sell it, can't use it to pay for any of their services. But you can stake it for 1-year terms. And they say you'll be able to swap it, eventually, for BTC or USDC in their exchange...

...but they don't have an exchange. Yet. Or an ETA for it.

So you guys were right: it is a valid ERC20 token, but they own the entire supply, and it sounds like they don't have plans to allow you to even withdraw it to your own wallet. There's no market force that could give it value.

ERC20 rewards from BTC miners - What is the angle?
by

A small Cloud Mining page (https://www.cryptoatcost.com/) that spun off from a Canadian VPS provider (https://www.cloudatcost.com/) is making their own ERC20 token: CCT (https://www.cryptoatcost.com/cct-token). But this isn't a coin announcement: I'd like to know if what they're doing is an obvious scam.

Although Etherscan does show the contract was made a few months ago, and they appear to have a Uniswap LP... they also said you'll be able to mine it using BTC ASICs. How would that work? I'm thinking they could actually be taking the hashpower to mine BTC for themselves... and then on the side they just directly distribute their worthless token? If they own the entire supply... then there's no PoW involved: they can just hand it out?

The mining part isn't working yet: they just told current customers about the token today. I just don't see how they'll make money.

Thanks!

Which eco-coin do you prefer more? Or green coins are just kind of hype now?

If you're worried about being eco/green, then you're limited to PoS coins. So you should be PoW mining ETH now... and staking it in a 2.0 pool.

Yeah, I'm not sure what's being asked here: about SQRL-the-company, their products (i.e. FK33), or the service that hosts your hardware?  Huh

SQRL is a real company that sells FPGA's you can run yourself or have hosted (I've tried both). Hosting is run by a partner company (mwdataco) and they occasionally update the bitstreams (mining software) that hosted cards can run. Some hosting customers are unhappy about the limited selection of bitstreams: during COVID shutdowns they could only mine HNS. And that coin just became unprofitable to mine... so time for new software.

Hosting profitability (and variety of coins you can mine) haven't been what many people expected when they signed up: but none of it is a scam. Unless crypto values dropping over time and difficulty going up as ASICs join networks is a 'scam' and a surprise to you... in which case you're really in the wrong forum  Wink

So, not a scam: but also not making suitcases-of-cash for customers either... at least as of May 12 2020.

Just used Dream's escrow for the first time yesterday: all went well and it was easier than I thought. I'll definitely use it again for sales involving crypto.

They have photos of the chip: it's a Kinetex 7 (but I can't make out exact model number). This would be a direct competitor with HAC's F1 Mini? (https://www.hashaltcoin.com/en/batches/14). Except HAC cranks out bitstreams while there may be zero support for this AGPF SK1.

Well, www.eastshore.xyz is selling these for $179. FPGA MIner "FGPF SK1 Miner"...

Did they screw on a Raspberry Pi Zero W (https://www.raspberrypi.org/products/raspberry-pi-zero-w/) as their controller? That make this miner way more interesting!

That would make the black heatsink for the VRMs?

I think Pi's use about $15/year in electricity? So you could lose $14.99/year mining BTC.

As a data point: when I have all 3 algos hashing I see 1320w at-the-wall through a Bitmain APW3++ on 120v. I don't know where they got 980w from. Can someone else with a killawatt chime in?

I'm hoping that since X2's were a limited-distribution: that everyone who ordered one now has it online. So maybe difficulties will level out? Not like the kick-in-the-pants the equihash pools will soon be taking...

It looks like if you got a slim enough heatsink setup... you could screw together a little tower of them, all connected together with those littel M3 hex rods

...but then you're just building the stretch-limo version of an F1-Single Smiley

Or, go visit the post in the correct (Marketplace) forum, run by an Escrow member with a high trust rating, who has run group-buys here before, and who isn't hiding the price: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5121740.0

Bitstreams have been released for the BCU-1525 for the following algorithms. x13sm3 (BCD), Keccak256 (Keccak/KeccakC), Zen Protocol, and 0xToken (0xBTC/Sedo).

Amazing news! It feels like we're getting over a hump that was holding back bitstreams: now full steam ahead!

It is probably like the XMR FPGA miner, which I've bought and never received, but maybe it is only a year delay...

Yeah, I don't know why cwminer called this thing the "XF100", that's boring....

"Dwarf Miner 2" is a way better name: sound catchier, like next-generation technology!

How much for shipping to the EU?

Subject and post says $3600usd includes shipping and PSU. (It seem like they estimate $150-$200 of the price will go to global express shipping on average).
