I will trade you some Hobonickels for CompoundCoin, InflationCoin, RAIN, POSCoin (very active community), and/or HodlCoin(one of the coolest wallets, doesn't need to be on to get good returns).

My Hobonickels wallet       Ei5N4vJJV1CNXiipLPHujFF88CDsrGzzcg

We could keep this economy going.

I do like these staking coins and wrote started writing a book about them:
https://telicalbooks.com/Staking_Book_RSPearson.html

but glad I didn't release it as a lot of them went down.

It's cool that you wrote a book about staking coins! I do recognize that feeling. I was asked to write a 'crypto for beginners' book once, but I wouldn't want to encourage people to throw away their money on dog tokens or something like that.

And thanks for the offer, but I'm not interested in trading at the moment. My money's spread thin and wide already. I'll keep those coins in mind when I have time for more research.

Hey friends, happy anniversary!  Cheesy

HOBONICKELS IS 10 YEARS OLD TODAY

Our favorite coin was announced and launched on July 24, 2013.

Thanks to thundertoe, Tranz, ahmed_bodi and everyone who helped to make this happen. Who'd expect a joke coin to last this long, with no development at all in the past 5 years? It goes to show how resilient a coin can be, as long as a few people keep believing in it.

Almost forgot to post this because I was distracted by Orbcoin and other dystopian shit. Of course that was a good reason to mention it on Twitter. HBN is the real world-wide currency for the people, there's enough coins for everyone, because we keep making more.

I'm happy that we have a fully functional block explorer again thanks to dnp. Note that it includes a rich list on the Metrics tab and a node list on the Network tab. I'm seeing one node in Ukraine and one in Russia, so we're doing what we can for world peace.

Anyway, it wouldn't be Hobonickels if we had perfectly organized celebrations. My favorite moment was when Fluffypony of all people took this too seriously and called the devs amateurs for not putting the code on Github immediately.  Grin

General question: What was your favorite moment in Hobonickels history?

I haven't seen it mention here yet, but while the dot info site disappeared, there's a new Hobonickels website: https://hobonickels.io/
I think this is from the same guy who runs the Twitter account and who made the HOBO token on Ethereum. In this case, he did a good job. It's a decent site which links to the code and binaries on Github, as well as a recent snapshot.

We could have a working explorer if someone wants to pay $15 a month to http://explorer.dognose.net:3011/ (that's a demo version now).

For inspiration, here's some quotes from Horus (the crypto hobo), to whom this coin was dedicated:

Quote
I'm a terrible trader. Technically, with my job, I can't really talk about investing and stuff like that, but even if I could, people wouldn't want my advice. I end up bagholding a lot, I just hold coins and hold coins and hold coins.

A lot of the time, pumping just means giving your money to better traders.

I remember watching some Wall Street traders coming in, some day traders. And they were just mystified, they lost their shirt right off the hop. Because they weren't used to such volatile markets. And they weren't used to 24/7 markets, they were used to markets closing at a certain time, and the place not changing.

When the Bitcoin price was around $250:
Quote
> My uncle actually bought a bitcoin when it was 800. And now every time he calls me, he throws in a reminder that he bought a bitcoin at 800.

> There's no quick 5-minute talk on Bitcoin. It's a multiple-hour discussion, when you're trying to talk to somebody about Bitcoin, not convince them, but just describe it. Their minds are so set in the traditional banking system, that they can't wrap their heads around it. It almost sounds to good to be true at first, and they don't buy it. Or too bad to be true, it depends on how they look at it.

These quotes are from an interview with Rick Stoner on his online radio show Doged Radio, undated but probably from March 2015.

I think in the next bull market there will be a new wave of blockchain memento collectors interested in antique curiosities like this coin. Just like there was for "Historical NFTs."

Yes, I agree, even more so now that people are rediscovering that you can create NFTs and tokens on Bitcoin. It would be so cool if we could reach the 10 year anniversary in July. You can create a thousand tokens, but such a history is unique. Recently, I've been doing research in order to write about Hobonickels, and even from public sources there's so much lore...

I'll try to do *whatever it takes* to keep Hobonickels alive, but I have limited means. The first thing we need is more nodes.

I don't really care about the price. HBN is meant to be cheap, fast and plentiful. That's what keeps it fun. If it ever becomes an investment like Dogecoin, I'll sell.

As CoinEraser said, I can't recommend Unnamed Exchange either. There were some weird shenanigans with blocked withdrawals last year. So we need to rely on Freiexchange, where the price range is currently limited to 0, 1 or 2 sats.

Is the network dying or am I on a losing fork? I only see 4 to 6 peers, and some of my minting transactions are not accepted.

OK, apparently my problem was that my stake was too low. My minting transactions do usually get confirmed after I bought more coins on Freiexchange. @paramind22 I guess you noticed that. Grin Thanks for the IP list.

Last month, I noticed we went from 4 to 6 nodes, but a lot of coins must have stopped staking. Suddenly, I went from minting a few times a day to about every 10 minutes.

Today, my wallet says it's not staking because it can find only 2 nodes. Did somebody forget to restart their node after maintenance? There was another Windows update on Tuesday.

The good news is that we reached 7 million blocks.

There might be some bad news too. Is the network dying or am I on a losing fork? I only see 4 to 6 peers, and some of my minting transactions are not accepted.

If you're getting more than a handful of peers, can you post some good IP addresses to seed from?

My node is running on an old Windows laptop which sometimes goes offline for updates. Can't do much more to keep the chain alive except post about it. Is it possible to run HBN on Linux?

Poster: https://i.imgur.com/V0uiatv.png

Hey, has anybody used the mobile wallet "monerujo" (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.m2049r.xmrwallet)? I'm due to move most of my XMR off the exchanges and I'm not in a position to host a full node, nor do I have enough that I would bother with cold storage.

Monerujo is open source and as reliable as it gets. It's just a wrapper for the regular Linux wallet anyway. The Monero subreddit recommends Monerujo and warns that Freewallet is a scam.

For long-term storage, you could create a written paper wallet using an offline address generator, so you don't need to connect to the blockchain at all. Of course you can't check your funds on a block explorer - that's a downside of Monero's anonymity in this case.

by

Name suggestion: Snarks.

But there are more than 3 things wrong with Zcash:

4. Transparent transactions are allowed, enabled by default and even possible if the receiver wants to remain private.

5. The creation of a transaction is slow and resource-heavy.

With regard to point 5, CredaCash claims to use a much more efficient hash, but that's hardly a real blockchain. It uses 'permissioned witnesses' instead of miners and will premine everything. Source: http://credacash.com/compare/

When the Voxelus VR Marketplace launches officially (April 19th), it will be the #1 VR content provider in the world. The only way to buy/sell anything there, is with Voxels.

#gamechanger

Why would users choose a deliberately crippled platform where you could use only one kind of currency, controlled by a company?

btw, i don't expect an increase of value for munne with this alpha release imho, but maybe if Terpin work his magic it will.  To me, the real game changer will be when there is a crypto-implementation of munne into the University and in the game, so a real usuability for this coin.

I agree. Patience is needed if you want Munne to do anything worthwhile.

Looks strange no buyer and no vendors

I don't understand why some people are complaining about low trading volume instead of using this opportunity.
Trading is fun when there's a large spread between bids and asks and the price goes up and down!  Cool

No, don't pull your sells - add some buy and sell orders on Bittrex, so we can keep the trading volume above the minimum. There's a big spread between bids and asks, which makes it easy to make money by trading on both sides.

Great to see the 7 stars, and the price is rebounding from 1600 to 2500 Smiley

Minor feature request for the wallet: in the transaction view, could we have a drop down option to display both sent and received funds, but no mining? If you select 'All', the staking transactions are crowding out everything else.

Re: Could something like Venmo make use of bitcoin?
by

You can deposit ven at Kraken.com and trade XBT/XVN (Bitcoin vs. Ven) there. I'm not sure if this is available in all us states, but if you have an address in Montana, New Mexico or South Carolina (the "no money transmitter license" required states) it should work, I think.

Venmo is an app for paying in dollars, it's not related to the Ven currency Smiley

Quote
In a brainstorming session, they came up with the “ven” from vendere, the Latin word for to sell, and “mo” from mobile.
http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2014-11-20/mobile-payment-startup-venmo-is-killing-cash

It's more like Apple Pay or TransferWise. I guess they have low costs because they process a high volume of transactions just like banks, without having to build the payment network like banks do. Using bitcoin could make these services cheaper, but it's not the low-hanging fruit. In the short term, they'll be competing with digital currency, and they're more efficient than banks, credit card companies or Western Union.

In related news, major Dutch banks recently announced they were looking in to how blockchain technology could make settlements between banks more efficient. Video in Dutch: www.rtlnieuws.nl/economie/home/gaat-bitcoin-techniek-banken-helpen

Exactly! The only green one in the first two columns isn't actually an altcoin, but a bitcoin mining share.

The link above is ("Andreas Antonopoulos on the Future Of Bitcoin" And alt-Coins.) From the Toronto Bitcoin Expo on October 30th.

If you have time the whole thing is really interesting. If not watch the last 8-10 Minutes of it.

I haven't watched the whole video yet, but I read the same type of ideas in a classic post called
How we crypto-geeks get it wrong & the reality of altcoin success.

Quote
IN SUMMARY: We crypto geeks have to get reality! To succeed longterm, a coin must address these issues:

1. Users only care about ease of use & security, they really don't care about our x1186SHAPOWPOS, inverted 3x algo
2. Recognize the two disparate economies of cryptocurrencies (Miners vs Users)
3. Solve how a coin gets into the real users wallets, not the miners/traders
4. Give the users something do with the coin

One of the things I like about Munne is that the founders realized they needed to reach a wider audience than just miners and traders. Actually, I hope they won't pay too much attention to Bitcointalk once the Munne Forum is up and running. This used to be the best place to discuss the pros and cons of altcoins, but all the scams have made people paranoid.

And of course the game is a nice way to give users 'something to do with the coin'.

Other things to do for nervous Nellies:

- Promote Munne on social media and other forums.
- Use it to buy things through CoinPayments (I don't see Munne on CoinGateway yet).
- Ask a friend to download the wallet if you want to pay for a dinner, buy someone a present together or something like that.
- Try to sell stuff or services for Munne.

No, no sir, it's not dead. It's resting.
I'm mining gaycoin like they're going out of style!
Not getting any transaction fees, though.

http://i.imgur.com/0YScd0U.png

Today, I have more hashes than the network. How is that even possible? Are my own hashes excluded from the network count?

http://i.imgur.com/o3JG9w9.png

So if you wanted to practice a 51% attack, you could easily rape this coin. But that seems pointless. And it would make you a homosexual, of course.  Wink

I like the GAY, in the same way that one can be attached to a crippled pet, or to stay on topic, an mentally unstable ex-Christian twink with daddy issues. It's so pretty, and so easy... the only coin I ever managed to solo mine in significant numbers.

The last thing I heard from the coin starter was "We are looking for devs to fix the bug not syncing wallet". I guess the wallet simply wasn't syncing for many users because there was no one else on the network. This coin was obviously made by a graphical designer whose coding skills might be less than fabulous. So I hope someone will help develop this coin, with regard to security patches and so on.

GAY is still listed on a few exchanges, even though the coin starter said on the facebook page that he wanted to delist it and only sell it through his website:

https://comkort.com/market/trade/gay_doge
https://www.palth.net/market/GAY/BTC

At least, I think that's the scrypt gaycoin and not the SHA-256 gaycoin with the hideous rainbow logo, since it was announced to be on those exchanges.

BTW, I used the addnodes from the website:
