What about meeting at Beer Kitchen in Westport? It's not sushi but has good food.

Which weekend and day of the week works best for all?

I like this idea!

So, date everyone? I feel next weekend is a little soon (or maybe not?) . Maybe the 15th?

What's everyone's opinion?

Sure. We have had them before and i know a few guys. What did you have in mind?

I am actually not sure. I have never been to one, so i thought I would try to find one in KC, but didn't have any luck. I was going to look in to what other groups did to get some idea. We could also meet up as a group to tax about what everyone would like to get out of a group.

If everyone is 21 I suggest a bar somewhere. If not, maybe Sushi

I would be down for sure. Meeting at a bar or sushi place for a discussion on how a group should function/goals would be awesome.

Any location ideas? I am in the Westport area, and there are a lot of places around here.

So after browsing the forums for a little while and seeing all of the alt cryptocurrencies out there, I am wondering, with all of the Coingen crappers, pump and dump coins, and failcoins out there, which ones do you all still favor and see as a big player for this year? Feel free to post whatever coin you want, if I come across a new one I will add it to my list and probably make a poll with everyone listed for you guys to vote on. Thoughts?

We've been working super hard over the past 6 months improving the coin's fundamentals and growing the community. Take a look at Goldcoin and come see me on the forum for a few dozen free coins to get you started. I think you'll like what you find.

I will check it out.

Well if you want to do trading (trading for a profit, etc) I suggest BTC-e. If you want a place to just buy Bitcoins for personal use, I do like Coinbase. I know you said you have had a bad experience with them in the past.

I fully support. If I could have one location to store all of my coins, instead of different wallets, I would be happy with the wallet!

Bitcoin may not be perfect but it's good enough. Something would have to go very wrong for Bitcoin to be anything other than the main player.

Like someone getting 51% and ruining the economy?

Do realize that BItcoin can go to zero. Maybe everyone has their ideas about what the chances are that that happens, but no one should think it's 0%.  So invest wisely.

No duh. The chances are low. You do realize that any form of money from any country can go to zero to right? You do realize that all countries are technically in debt right? All things have value as long as people believe that there is value in it.

I mean, look at the Zimbabwe dollar! It's not even at 0!

Same! I tried to tip someone in Bitcoin the other week (I had a Groupon and  no cash on me) but he sadly didn't know what I was talking about. He said he heard of BTC, but didn't know anything about he. He did say he was going to look into it, and probably set up a wallet on his phone. Hopefully the loss of a tip (Well, I did end up charging extra so I could use my debit card to tip a bit) gave him incentive to learn about BTC.

It sounds like you want to start mining smaller amounts until your rig gets in. Maybe to practice or something?

I know people on Reddit sell USB miners all the time. http://www.reddit.com/r/bitmarket

Thanks. I'll look into that. Yeah I'm wanting to try a couple of things out before they get here to better optimize them. It's much harder to turn a profit really unless you start with a lot to invest something I don't have when doing SAH-256 but even though the cheaper route and better long term mining would be in script mining since there isn't any big Hash chip makers for script yet to saturate that end so it is easier to get into and the rig last longer before needing to up it, but to build one still takes quite a bit.

Eh, as long as you break even! Whenever I mine any coin I just look to break even and have fun mining and supporting the system. Also, if you want to, try mining a alt currency just to get SOME kind of coin. Might make it more fun while you wait for your BTC stuff to arrive!

For my first post, I thought I'd ask you a question!

For my first post, I want to ask everyone here a question. What made you to start following Bitcoin, and what are your current uses of Bitcoin? For me, I stumbled on it about a year ago while on Reddit. I thought the idea of a digital currency that could be transferred ANYWHERE in the world was cool as hell! I thought of all the possibilities and how it could benefit the world. All I could do was talk about Bitcoin; my friends probably got tired of hearing about it! (As I am sure they still are). I tried mining a bit. People kept telling me I was wasting my time, and it was dumb since I wouldn't make any money. I tried telling them that I was not mining to make money (it was impossible with my spec) but I was mining to learn more about the bitcoin protocol and to support the systems.

Currently I still follow Bitcoin, but I have started to branch out to other currencies, such as Primecoin. I like the idea of helping to find Primenumbers while mining! I do have a small small amount of BTC currently, but it's in a small honeymoon fund for next year (hopefully the price will be higher then!)

Why should BTC be rising so much? It's a currency. It's like asking why the USD hasn't risen a ton today (USD might be a bad example...).

In my opinion, I am happy that the price has been around $820 USD for the past two weeks or so. Stability is what Bitcoin needs if it really wants to go mainstream. The more stable Bitcoin is, the easier it will be to adapt and be taken seriously.

Also, if you're just in BTC to make a quick buck, then go for it. But I think your investment expectations are too high. Making a few dollars per share (in the stock market) is actually a decent profit. The massive increase in BTC price has warped your expectation in investments.

I really like PrimeCoin. I love the idea that even if my mining isn't producing many coins (Or any really) I am still helping the scientific community by searching for prime numbers. Just seems cool to me.

Well, what do you want out of Bitcoin? Do you want to use it? Mine it? Invest in it?
