Hey Qtera help as much as you feel. Fernando is always letting me help when I ask. Glad you're back!

Oh, no Dan! You misunderstood me. I'm Cpol! Qtera is one of my many aliases! I haven't gone, just lurking waiting for my call! It's curious, because I've been worried the whole day thinking about devcoin and it was as if develCuy were calling me using telepathy!

Dear Devcoin community,

I kindly ask everybody, specially in A-Team, to follow the example from Cpol, the guy doesn't earns a single ongoing share, yet he is accountable with his role within our DevTeam, he is always there whenever I need to test a new build, he does better reporting than many paid senior devs I know in my day job. Cpol does it all for a different model of incentive, get paid for actual achievements, when things are really done! No money upfront. Please don't take me wrong, I don't plan to change our current ongoing model, I only want to incentivize onboarding more people like Cpol and to awake the power from A-Team, together we could move Devcoin from under 1 sat to 10 sats in no time. Time will tell if I'm wrong and you'll then blame me for failure.

Jeez develCuy, i don't know what to say. Thank you for your confidence! I think it is not a selfless act at all, I hope it would. My way of see things are: if this project moves forward good enough, I would get more than I need to with my actual saved coins. But you are right, we need to move fast and now, because we have missed a lot of time already. We need those satoshis moving.

P.S.: Could I replace one of those seniors devs in your daily work? I'm kidding!

You can contact markm and he will take your DVC tokens at his stellar address and send you blockchain devcoins into your DVC wallet. 1:1 ration of Stellar DVC tokens/DVC. I coordinated with him on the keybase.io chat by direct messaging him at "knotwork" because keybase has a built in wallet for Stellar and its tokens.

Dan, is it too difficult to implement that automatically in the system? Not a criticism, just genuinely asking.

Also Stellar is an open network, good place for DVC to move in and out of as it builds up value per each unit. Not about dollars anymore.

That's very good!! I like that!

Last few times I looked for free open-source code for giving people tokens in return for coins there were two problems:

One, they claimed the code was not for production-use, that is, not actually hardened for real use;

Two, the code minted tokens on the fly to represent the supposedly-received coins, instead of only letting folks "buy" existing tokens already previously minted; that violates my only issue tokens for half my coins policy and also implies issuing tokens representing coins that are probably still in a "hot" wallet not yet actually frozen or buried safely away somewhere.

-MarkM-

I understand MarkM thanks for answering back. I wish something like that could be production-use ready and customizable enough to meet your best practices.  I think that would be awesome.

So you bought dvc from markm's account with the XLM deposited, correct? None of your own personal dvc has left your wallet, or can you clarify how "I bought some DVC tokens from MarkM's issuer account"?

I am failing to see that anyone other than markm is able to actually sell dvc on Stellar? please correct me if I am wrong and walk me through it otherwise dvc cannot be advertising Stellar as a SELLING platform for dvc.

Fuzzy, I think we can't deposit nor withdraw DVC coins in there, as I understand those are the DVC Tokens, and you can buy and sell them but you can't take them out to your DVC wallet and vice-versa. I don't know if I'm getting it right but that's what I understand about the interstellar network. I have bought and sell some of those tokens but to take them out you have to convert them into LTC or any other coin.

If you're looking to deposit and obtain DVC you have to put in XLM and then trade for the DVC token. If you want to take out DVC token as DVC blockchain coins you have to send markm the DVC token to his Stellar address and then he will coordinate with you to send blockchain coin DVC to your DVC wallet.

Oh I see, I think I understand, thank you!

I'm sorry. I don't really know if that's what you were  asking.

No, that's fine. I was mistaking the tokens with the coins but it's alright. I think I'm gonna buy and hold more DVC tokens! Thank you Dan!

Its much better to get listed on a small exchange with zero volume, then on a scammy exchange with fake volume and 2 btc listing fee.

If possible to relist on altilly as fuzzybear mentions, that would be a good option. And there are a lot of small exchanges that would be very reasonable.

Stellar trading (especially now that it has an ETH pairing - who did that?) is not to be underestimated. Smiley

Dan, is there a way to deposit and withdraw DVCs in the interstellar? Unfortunately, I've been looking everywhere and I had no luck, yet.  Undecided

Re: New language: Devcoin token vs. Devcoin coins
by
Qtera
on 06/07/2020, 01:51:51 UTC
Just to have definitions documented somewhere and for later reference:

1. Devcoin token: An asset issued by @knotwork on the Stellar platform: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=233997.msg35842820#msg35842820
2. Devcoin coin: The original Devcoin, fork of Bitcoin with own blockchain and wallet
3. Devcoin tokens are backed 1:1 by Devcoin coins: https://peakd.com/devcoin/@satoshi0x/how-to-buy-sell-dvc-using-stellar
4. "Burning" coins (note the quotes), as inherited from Bitcoin, there is no way to really burn Devcoin coins, there are only workarounds: https://medium.com/@alcio/how-to-destroy-bitcoins-255bb6f2142e
5. Strategy for releasing Devcoin tokens:
Asset scarcity. Devcoin has already released a huge amount of coins that we can hardly control scarcity at this point. For that reason it is good to create a new asset like the coins, that we can manage better with all the hard learned lessons that came failure after failure. In short, I stay with the idea of releasing new Devcoin tokens bit by bit, rather than releasing millions of them at once or letting things in auto-mode.

- develCuy

I made a how-to for #1. Step-by-step and another followup on Steemit on exchanging those dDVC tokens for DVC with markm.

https://steemit.com/devcoin/@satoshi0x/how-to-buy-sell-dvc-using-stellar
https://steemit.com/devtome/@satoshi0x/part-two-exchanging-your-dvc-tokens-on-stellar-for-blockchain-dvc-coins

Hey Dan! Thank you for this guide! I was successfully able to trade a very little amount of DVCs as test! Nice! Grin

That works for linux as generally u can do everything u need through the terminal. Have you ever built a cryptowallet on windows?? it really is not a simple process and similar on mac.  http://web.archive.org/web/20130821030414/https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=149479.0

Really do need to offer all the platform binaries otherwise it is restricting the entry level to just get a wallet and people will not bother or be turned away from dvc, or worse yet someone who has dvc can no longer access if old versions of dvc are not going to work / sync

I used to make builds for windows and mac as part of the linux build as you can cross compile but it has been many years since I did this but details are here https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/blob/master/doc/build-windows.md

I would STRONGLY recommend that these binaries are released as well otherwise it will have a negative impact on the dvc network.

Fuzzybear

I tried to build binaries for the devcoin wallet using the instructions provided by Fuzzybear, but I failed miserably.  I followed the same instructions to compile the bitcoin wallet using the current master branch (v0.20.99.0-a79bca2f1) and it was pretty straight forward.

The problem I faced trying to compile the devcoin wallet was that it seems there's no "instructions" to tell the compiler how to build the windows binary. I mean, the instructions guides you step by step until you hit a wall and I suspect it's due to differences in versions. I don't know if it's possible to update the code to the most recent version or if there's already a branch in the repository addressing that, but unfortunately I got to the point I can't advance more in that regard because that exceeds my knowledge in that matter. I suspect that something similar is happening with the mac versions but it's only a hunch. However, if that could be solved in some way, I think it is possible that I could build a windows binary, although, I need to learn how to wrap it all in a single installer first, of course.

Anyway, that was a fast briefing of my findings trying to build a devcoin wallet on windows.

Cheers!

I'm all for the plan you've come up with. It may need some more fleshing out and refinement but I think that it's a solid plan and would help achieve everything we need in terms of helping DVC become more desirable, thus building up a reason for people to create new use cases (such as gaming sites, shops, etc.), creating a cyclic effect.

I think it is a good plan, too! I like the idea of tokens and to give DVC a growing momentum. I think also that burning coins can be a good solution.

Guys just a short PSA, the Freiexchange has a working DVC/BTC market. Just a friendly reminder that DVC is still listed in there and you can buy and sell as much you want  Smiley

This is to announce my resignation from the DevCoin Project. The primary reason for this decision is because of my strong and vocal disagreement in the handling of the recent STEEM fork and my account's power down on both the STEEM and HIVE blockchains. My main focus with the DevCoin Project, of late, has been with #DevSTEEM so my position on the fork would not reflect well on DevCoin.

It has been my pleasure to have worked with you all over the years on such an altruistic project as DevCoin. Do not doubt for a moment that much good has come from it.

Yours truly,

- Nova

I'm so sorry to see you go Nova  Cry Cry Cry  Thank you for bring me on board to this project and all these years of hard work for devcoin. I'm gonna miss you.

Almost all file custodians are synced right now, except http://show-me-the-devcoin.info who's custodian I can't reach. If you know how to contact that person, please help us.

Also, we have some little -yet very important- changes to the source code. I have updated the default seed nodes, DNS seeds and receiver files mirrors in the source code, given that we had many of them not working any longer. A detail of the changes can be found here: https://github.com/devcoin/core/commits/master

All wallet testers along Windows and Linux administrators, please build the latest version of Devcoin from https://github.com/devcoin/core/ master branch, and report your findings in the issue queue: https://github.com/devcoin/core/issues/new

Go go Devcoin!

Done compiling the wallet in Linux Mint and synchronizing it! I followed the step-by-step guide to compile it in here: https://steemit.com/busy/@cpol/how-to-compile-your-very-own-devcoin-wallet-in-ubuntu-18-04

Compiling process and wallet sync ran as expected without any problems. I didn't sync it from scratch, but it seems a little bit slower to sync than my previous compiled version.  No bugs to report in github.

I do receive at the moment 3 ongoing shares: one as a wallet tester and two as Share administrator.  I wish to move them to the OpsFund, so we can continue funding the project.

Thank you!
