as for bitrefill i can't comment on the fee issue, but did you really see a fee of at least $1500 (100 times the minimum gift card value) because that seems unrealistic?
ps. checking the site it seems like the smallest default one is $200 and they charge $202 (only $2 fee) or 0.017781BTC. and smallest custom one is $10 which they charge $10.10 or 0.00088900BTC

Thanks for helping to solve an earlier problem with my wallet!

I’m sure the Bitrefill glitch is connected with this note that appeared: “for processing without confirmations we require a transaction fee of at least 6 sat/vbyte”. The solution is probably to confirm the transaction, but I don’t know how to do that. I have a web source that explains how to do it on a phone, but I’m using a laptop.

BTW the fee was actually $4000 for a $40 gift card.

1. What’s the best way to use BTC to shop at Amazon and other online retailers?

2. One source says the answer is to purchase gift cards at sites like Bitrefill.

3. I tried buying an Amazon gift card on Bitrefill but hit a glitch: the software showed a fee 100 times the purchase price.

I hope someone can clarify these issues!

Where did you download the Electrum?

You must check first if your Electrum lower right corner show green circle or red or might be stuck on syncing with 2 arrows?

Aha! The circle is red.

A box popped up with 3 menus: Overview, Connection, and Server. In the first it has Status: Connected to 2 nodes. Then Server: None. In the Server menu the box is checked for ?Select server automatically?. The server selected is bitcoin.freedomnode.com. In the Connection menu the box is checked for Use SSL.

Presumably some of this is part of the problem. Perhaps you can help me to get it set up properly.

I did download it from Electrum.org but it?s an older version, 3.0.1. I now realize I should have updated to the latest version, and will do that for future transactions. Meanwhile presumably I have to solve the problem on the wallet I have in order to recover the BTC that was sent to it.

Any of the addresses from your account in the electrum wallet should be fine. At the end of the day, they are all part of your account.

Thanks, that’s the first vital piece of info I needed!

The transaction was confirmed on Coinbase; on my dashboard it says that the BTC was sent.

I joined Coinbase, made my first purchase of BTC, then tried to transfer some of it to my Electrum wallet. The BTC was sent but failed to appear in my wallet. According to an answer on this forum, I should have used the Receiving address, whereas I used an address from the “Addresses” section of the wallet. Presumably this was the cause of the problem, and if so, my question now is whether there’s any way to still get the BTC into my wallet, or has it vanished forever into the cyber-void?
