What are the most useful tools in Bitcoin & Blockchain related Development?
by

Hello all,

What are the most useful tools, regardless of frequency of use, in Bitcoin and Blockchain related development? I feel it would be useful to compile a list here so we all don't have to do our own research, and therefore can spend more time innovating and creating.

Best,
SSSS

Hi there. I have a *lot* of old wallets. If you tell me exactly what you're using them for, I will sell to you in bulk at a price that is fair for both of us.

Re: cop shoots woman in the head

I found myself thinking that attempted murder maybe wouldn't be the right charge because you have to prove intent, but then I thought what would happen if it wasn't a cop doing the shooting? Odds are decent attempted murder would be the charge. And if it was someone who shot at an off-duty cop (without knowing their identity)? Guaranteed attempted murder charge.

Face it private citizens: Cops are just above the law.

Historically, in the vast majority of civilizations, when the government becomes out of line, a revolution happens. This is more difficult in modern times because of crazy advancements in technology, however, it *will* still happen.

It is only a matter of when.

The first thing that I bought with btc was a used BMW. If I held them until now, I could have bought a new Lambo haha.  Grin

I heard someone actually got a Lambo for btc a few months back.

Yes this is commonplace now. A dealership in Cali sells Lambos and Teslas for btc quite often.

Colored coins/Counterparty, we need to stop using all these centralized solutions  Smiley

I'm in total agreement. Do you guys know when someone will have a full-on solution for this usable by my mum?

http://www.cato.org/multimedia/daily-podcast/unfortunate-future-bitcoin

"bitcoin will crash to zero, get out now! Yes, I am disappointed too."

tl;dr  "bitcoin will be worthless, because the mining will become centralised"

Quite a chilling speech by Kevin Dowd there. It's based on the assumption that mining will definitely end up becoming a centralised monopoly.

I'm fairly naive to the technical prospects of ASICs, but I was under the impression that ASICs development stands to reach a relative ceiling as it catches up with Moore's law, and that at this stage the advances in ASIC chip efficiency would slow down, matching Moores law as with other established processors. With the likes of Samsung then mass-producing mining chips for broad distribution, I would imagine that small-scale miners (especially solar powered ones) would become more accessible such that everyone could mine at the same rates. This would then re-decentralise the network again.

Am I wrong?
you are far more correct then Kevin Dowd as the mining is not very important at all in determining BTC's value.

ummm... last I checked, historically, there is a direct correlation between difficulty and price. Look at some graphs!

Re: Was mining with the Raspberry Pi ever profitable?
by

I mined my first block on an Intel Celeron. the rpi could have easily mined a block back in the day Smiley
The Celeron or any other desktop PC would have a heatsink and a fan to keep the cores cool and prevent it from overheating. Raspberry Pi is mostly designed for non CPU extensive work and low power consumption therefore it doesn't need a fan or a heatsink. In 2012, Celeron would definitely generate a block if you run it long enough, most raspberry pi would just die after generating one block. Back in the days you would have suffered a huge huge loss.

Not sure when the pi was introduced, but I'm speaking of 2010 Smiley

what do I do..

You wait. I'd also suggest learning to triple check amounts and wallet addresses you're sending money to. You don't want to accidentally send coins to a complete stranger, that won't come back no matter how long you wait.

I remember a year or two ago, back before there were so many goddamn scammers here, someone actually sent to a wrong address and got the coins back! Might have been Goat or Matthew... don't remember but it was probably one of the two.

But yeah, what he said  Tongue

Any ASIC tech-savvy people know if this slowing of ASIC advances to an asymptote is likely outcome any time soon?

I've mined bitcoin since CPU was the only way, and mined via GPU the first day it was possible, and partook in FPGA designs and finally have maintained relationships with the major ASIC producers of today.

Currently 14nm designs are being prototyped and will be released within the next two years. Things are certainly reaching a plateau.
