Re: This Bitfinex Credit Bubble cannot end well

When the price hits your liquidation price, does Bitfinex liquidate your entire position or only a part to keep you above the margin requirement?

If you are a whale, your liquidation will move the market and creating more margin call for the rest of your position. It will be a cascading event.

That happened around Christmas last year when one of the trader lose over 900k USD on cascading margin call on litecoin (and hence bitcoin).

But if you are not a whale?

And correct me if I'm wrong, but this will be the first time that the US Government will have participated in a bona-fide, genuine, real life official BITCOIN TRANSACTION. Doesn't that, in a way, lend credibility? Sure, I know, they just did it to get if off their hands. Still ... on July 1, the US Government will have officially transacted in bitcoin. That's a special day. Not quite as special as Bitcoin Pizza Day, but has a similar-ish meaning.

Won't be long before they're paying Lockheed Martin in bitcoin, just you wait ...

(jk about that last part. sorta. Wink )

That's a great point.

Deposit money to Huobi.com through an authorized Huobi agent. First create an account, then you can find his contact information. You will need to communicate through QQ.

As I was on the flight home from a recent Bitcoin conference, there was a middle-aged man sitting next to me reading and taking notes on the score of Wagner's opera Siegfried (seriously). I was very intrigued, so I struck up a conversation with him. It turns out he is an orchestra conductor who was on his way to prepare an orchestra for a September performance of Siegfried. I told him about my involvement with Bitcoin, and to my surprise, he already knew a decent amount about it, although he does not own any yet. I told him that I hope soon I will be able to buy my orchestra/opera tickets with Bitcoin.

I have been trying to figure out how to use "share payment request" over a chat app like WeChat, WhatsApp, or Google Hangouts. It sends something like this "bitcoin:1Fuz2SyLVegGhXquoigrQeczrbQjDuNzEU?amount=0.0212823" but there is no convenient way for the receiver of the message to transfer the information from his chat app to his bitcoin wallet. I suppose this is matter of the chat apps lacking functionality rather than Mycelium, but it would be nice if there were a way to take full advantage of the "share payment request" function.

I see it as very unlikely that the bear market in gold will continue for much longer. The bull market was reversed only through blatant manipulation with the help of derivatives. Part of the Quantitative Easing money created is used to short gold. Gold as the ultimate physical store of value will not lose its status and will rise in fiat terms when the fiat ponzi starts crashing - yet most likely much less than BTC.
Real money thinking will move to Bitcoin, but Keynesian thinking will flee en masse to real money thinking when their views dissolve.
Most of the world still sees gold as the ultimate representation of wealth. A big proportion of the people will not shift so easily from a physical store of value conception to a digital store of value conception. People like gold, especially more so outside the western world.
Gold can easily do x10 (1000%) within the next 10 years - depending on the geopolitical and monetary unfolding.
Silver can do x50
Bitcoin can do x1000 (100,000%)

I believe you are correct.

There would be 2 forks, and most likely, the majority would stay on the orriginal chain

There's two types of Bitcoin users.

Those who want to get rich from it (anti inflation).
And those who want it to be a frictionless way to transact (neutral/pro inflation).

Most Bitcoin users want it to be a store of value, a medium of exchange, and a frictionless transaction system. Inflation runs counter to the store of value function. Inflation/deflation has no bearing on frictionless transactions.

I know Okcoin wasn't included, but I thought they had much lower volume than Huobi.

That was the case until March, when it came on very strong for some reason.

I didn't know BitStamp had only the 7.50% of market share, okcoin has an amazing trading volume but I wonder if it's real or fake.

Huobi and OKCoin have zero trading fees, Bitstamp and the other non-Chinese exchanges do. Anyone in the world who wants to do high frequency trading, not only Chinese traders, will use Huobi or OKCoin.

Probably faked data , the only trustworthy exchange in hina is btc china.

Is there a good reason to think that BTC China is the only trustworthy exchange in China and that all other Chinese exchanges have fake data?

Since I don't trade on either one, I don't have a clear explanation for this data.

OKCoin data was not included on Bitcoinity until one week ago.

Brain wallets are easily guessable, you should move your funds into something else immediately.

Off-topic I know, but this seems to me to be a complete myth.

Chosen at random from my old Longman's Dictionary (pages opened at random)...deform lockage sedate daunt captive

The dictionary has 70,000 words:

70,000^5 = ~ 2*10^24

Try brute-forcing that  Wink

Well you have solved only half the problem. For most people, a set of words that can be reliably memorized is going to be easy to brute force.

Choose words from different languages.

Re: How can we sell Bitcoins to Argentina?
by
Siegfried
on 12/05/2014, 13:33:37 UTC
It sounds like Bitcoins would have to be taken into the country physically and exchanged by trading.
The person taking in the BTC would end up with a load of Pesos though, which probably isn't what they would want.  It sounds difficult to arrange getting Bitcoins into an already closed system.

People should travel to Argentina to spend their Bitcoin to have a good time.

Re: ...So what happened with china?
by
Siegfried
on 07/05/2014, 07:24:27 UTC
I thought PBoC demanded a complete "cut off" of fiat transfers for BTC related activity. "Collectible items for collectors".
All Okcoin and huobi do is raise the fees and stop leverage trading? That's it?
I'm kinda lost here.

I guess people were expecting a lot more BIG negative news (like forced closure or something), but the announcements were a lot less serious than expected and price perfectly reflected that.

What is you think we are likely to see before the 10th May deadline? Will we be done with china?
You have misinterpreted the May 10 deadline. The deadline is only for banks to make statements.  Enforcement action is not part of this and is being carried out separately by separate task forces that are being created.

And those task forces will enforce the creation of separate task forces to investigate and make statements separately about the enforcement actions that will need to be separately enforced.

Re: The Bitcoin ATM Boom can spark a HUGE Rally!
by
Siegfried
on 06/05/2014, 09:18:02 UTC
The supply of BTC is extremely limited, and there are over 7.046 billion people in the world.
The Bitcoin ATM Boom can spark a HUGE Rally!
How soon? How high? (no one knows)

Will the Bitcoin ATM Boom be a primary cause of (or excuse for) the next Bull phase?
ATMs have been getting launched for nearly a year now, but they're not catching on because the fees are way too high and they have some issues I believe. Also, the average person looks at one and wonders why they would need such a thing. They'll probably be more useful once a rally has already started, it's all over the news, and people are in an urgency to hop on the train.

I agree. Fuel to the fire.
