Re: Tracking down stolen Bitcoins
by
Skyborn
on 09/12/2017, 21:55:30 UTC
There are a lot of stories of stolen bitcoins from hacked websites or fooled people.

I was wondering, since all transactions are in blockchain, is it technically possible to make blacklist of wallets where stolen funds where transferred (by claims of victims) to track transfers of those funds and report when the owner can be identified (for example when some goods where bought and delivery address is known)?

Or perhaps just block those blacklisted wallets and don't support them on the network (bitcoin) level?
As much as I would agree with you that we should rid the grid with thiefs and scammers I also feel like starting with blackliststing would undermine the whole essence of bitcoin. Which autorithy will decide which addresses to blacklist or not. Doing this would be the beginning of the end of bitcoins decentralization.

Re: Why you should buy Bitcoin now.
by
Skyborn
on 06/11/2017, 07:07:12 UTC
It's a little foolish and quote naive to believe that we will continue our push to 8000$ I'm not saying it's impossible but it's very risky for new people to invest right now. It's a lot better to just be patient and wait for some kind of correction to occur before continuing new investments. If you're not into the game yet you can you can buy small portions just to be in the game but big investments are not advisable at all.

Re: Bitcoin is over 7000$ Should i invest now?
by

It really depends if you're in for the long term or short term. Short term it's extremely risky because there's a big chance it will go down at some point. Big names have already called a top. But there's always the chance that it will go back up again and a lot. That's why it's nice to be on the game. If you want to hold long term you can just take the risk and buy.

Re: Bitcoin is going slowly to 40,000$ and more
by
Skyborn
on 05/11/2017, 13:58:08 UTC
I would have said $40,000 bitcoin's were an absolute dream but the way the price is rocketing at a seemingly unstoppable rate I don't see $40,000 as dream land any more. It really could become a reality sooner than we think.
You would be surprised how likely it could be that we would see ridiculous prices like the 40000$ price. If bitcoin were to get a mere 5% of the total amount of money that people have invested in gold bitcoin could be valued at $25000. And that's only 5%! With the current growth 25000 can be likely in the next 3-5 years (realistically speaking and a lot of the times I'm wrong when it comes to prediciting how soon bitcoin will hit a certain price point, perhaps at the end of next year who knows).

Re: Is BTG worth the trouble?
by
Skyborn
on 05/11/2017, 13:53:06 UTC
Right now the price of BTG is hovering around $160 so currently that's about 2.1% of the current price of bitcoin. For me atleast that's certainly not worth the trouble, not to mention all the big hodlers who are holding a lot of bitcoin in their cold storage wallets. I did have some bitcoin at an exchange when the fork occured so I'm still waiting for that amount to credit and I will be selling that but I won't even bother for the remainder of my holdings.

Why would anyone send you bitcoin for no specific reason? The 'buy bitcoin sign' -guy did get a lot of donations for spreading the word to buy bitcoin on national television but if you were to copy him I don't think a lot of people would donate because it already has been done. I don't know about you but I want to become whealty through my own hard work and effort and not gifted by other people through donations for no apparent reason.

Re: [2017-11-01] Bitpay to Suspend All Services During the Segwit2x Hard Fork
by
Skyborn
on 05/11/2017, 13:41:09 UTC
"If that occurs, Bitpay’s services will follow the chain with the most accumulated difficulty."
And that basically means they will support Segwit2x after the fork, because like it or not, Segwit2x chain will have the support of majority of miners.
Why are you so certain that the segwit 2x chain will have the majority of miner support? 8 mb would mean more transactions in one block so more revenue for the miners. Is this a valid reason why they would support 2x over the legacy chain? Could you pleas elaborate and if possible share some information that I'm missing?

It seems to me that segwit2x is a logical upgrade bitcoin. Don't understand what the problem is.

Explain why this is logical:

1. Increasing the blocksize limit to 4MB in September
2. Blocksize averages between 0.9 MB and 1.1 MB after that (and still does today)
3. Increasing the blocksize limit to 8MB less than 2 months later

That's the "logic" of the Segwit2x "upgrade" right there for you

Agreed. I feel like it's too much too quickly. We will need 8 mb blocks at some point but this time around it feels way to rushed and it feels more like a coup than an actual upgrade to the network and ecosystem. Whatever the market, miner and nodes decide in 10 days, I just hope we will make the right decision for the network, community and ecosystem.

Re: Bitcoin to euro (~500 000e) where will I pay no tax/ as low tax as possible?
by

on 05/11/2017, 13:34:14 UTC
When dealing with such a hefty amount of money it's extremely advisable to contact an accountant to totally sort you out. 500 thousand euros isn't a small amount of money and your government will try to tax your bitcoin earnings. I wouldn't advise doing it yourself, just get a professional in the game. It's good to do your research and all but if you mess up you could be charged for money laundering and dending on the country you reside in that's not a charge you want to face. Better safe than sorry.

Re: Reasons why Paypal is not a digital currency...
by

on 04/11/2017, 23:21:25 UTC
Why do you assume PayPal was is a cryptocurrency in the first place? Nobody said it was so there's genuinely no point in disproving it. PayPal is probably as centralized as it gets so in that sense it really doesn't have anything to do with cryptocurrency. Satoshi probably was aware of the existence of PayPal but we'll probably never know if they took inspiration from PayPal or not. But I feel like bitcoin is a lot broader than PayPal so I think it's unjust to (partially) credit PayPal with the existence of bitcoin.

Re: All of my friends have finally dumped all of their alts
by
Skyborn
on 04/11/2017, 23:16:47 UTC
The thing with altcoins is that nobody really care about them. The majority of people just want to earn more bitcoin by investing in altcoins hoping for a better return. So as long as they are invested into an altcoin they will praise it to heave' and back in hopes for a moon landing somewhere in the near future. Only to dump their alt for more bitcoin.
To opposite happens when the altcoin crashes down and everybody is losing money. In the hat case the altcoin is dead and always has been dead or it's a scam, pump and dump etc. (a good example is siacoin).
So in reality nobody truly cares about altcoins most of them just want to make more BTC or $. And if they say it's not true they're most likely lying.

The proof of work model isn't really helping out the climate in any way but I don't think proof of stake nor proof of capacity are better solutions either. Think about it if we switched to proof of capacity on the bitcoin network (something that will never happen) everyone would start hoarding HDD's and the prices would rise. Just like GPUs right now. The only difference is that they consume less and are 'better' for the environment.

Re: Bitcoin's profit
by
Skyborn
on 04/11/2017, 23:03:59 UTC
The profit you can make from bitcoin is a lot compared to other investment alternatives like stock market, forex, real estate etc. But I still think drugs and criminality in general is a lot more 'profitable' but a lot more dangerous and pretty damn illegal. So for the average Joe it makes more sense to safely purchase bitcoin in the comfort of his own home than to run his own drug cartel.

Re: negative trust: why do people get it on bitcointalk.org
by
Skyborn
on 04/11/2017, 22:59:30 UTC
This trust system is put in place to discredit scammers and protect other users. Especially on this forum negative trust is a big stigma on one's account and you no one will trust you or go first in a trade. So it's something you want to avoid.
But I have also seen users getting negative trust by acting disrespectful to other individuals.
As much as I understand people who give others negative trust because they are being a douche or a pain to others. I strongly believe that it's not just to do that simply because someone being arrogant or disrespectful doesn't necessarily correlate with their trustworthiness. Therefore no one should receive negative trust for being a douche. I do not promote being a douche or a pain not by any means but someone can be the biggest douchebag but still be a trustworthy person that always keeps his/her word when it comes to trading.

Re: Holding BTC vs Day trading or short term trading.
by
Skyborn
on 04/11/2017, 22:47:06 UTC
The thing with trading is that it is very hard to consistently pull off profitable trades (every single day if you day trade). It all sounds great, buy low sell and everyone's coin will moon at some point and some other blablabla. But 9/10 times  (especially if you are trading in the current market) you will find yourself with coins that are worth 50% less than you bought them for. So what I like to do is capitalize on big market moved. Let's say the China crash of early September. We watched the price tank down and at around $3200 I've started buying the dip and a lot of big personalities in crypto did as well (e.g. Tuur Demeester openly tweeter that he was buying the dip). So you really want to capitalize on those kind of moves instead of investing in 20 altcoins or ICO'S.

Re: Local Laws about Crypto
by
Skyborn
on 04/11/2017, 20:56:40 UTC
Since bitcoin is starting to skyrocket and I got in pretty low (right after the china crash) I'm looking at the local laws in my country just in case bitcoin hits 10.000$. When bitcoin hits 10.000 dollars I would be willing to cash out. So what I've found on the local laws in my country is that you would have to pay a sh*tload of taxes when cashed out. Since the law is pretty unclear bitcoin is considered a speculative asset and therefore falls under gambling and I would have to pay 33.3% tax (which is straight up theft). I'll probably look for a good accountant to find me a better solution.

Re: 2017 is crazy for bitcoin
by

Cryptocurrency and the blockchain technology are undeniable the future, 2017 has illustrated that quite a bit. Before mobile phones were a thing people hated them and claimed they would never use them but here we are in a time where perhaps 75% of the population owns one. Mainstream peeps. Hopefully bitcoin will still have a leading point when that happens to cryptocurrency. With the recent trends ten thousand dollars is a very probable milestone going into 2018. Time will tell if we will hit it.

Re: Bitcoin price prediction 2018
by
Skyborn
on 02/11/2017, 19:41:00 UTC
My prediction would be heavily relient on the outcome of the whole segwit 2x drama. I expect a fork but from there I don't know what to expect at all. Since bitcoin's weekly chart is looking extremely parabolic, I'm expecting a drop to around $5400-5500. If that happens the lowest price will be our support level going into 2018.
If, in 2018, we are able to integrate lightning network we could very well hit $10000 around may.

Re: Can Amazon Integrate Bitcoin?
by
Skyborn
on 02/11/2017, 18:57:42 UTC
At some point amazon will have to integrate cryptocurrency payments. That's for sure. The question is when. Right now I feel like bitcoin is not ready yet. Amazon handles a lot of orders per second and at this point in time bitcoin can't handle the same amount of transactions per second (yet). Of course it's foolish to think that, upon integration, all the transactions will be bitcoin based but in the long run it's something we should strive towards.
