Re: Hive OS - new Linux GPU mining platform
by

on 09/06/2019, 21:43:34 UTC
Apologies if this is a stupid question...I have searched around and I am not finding anything.

I have an RX580/570 farm on HiveOS.  I want to mine the most profitable option.  I am a bit above breakeven given my power situation.
On whattomine.com, AMD cards get the best profit on Nicehash.  I used to mine ethermine.org but decided to try nicehash.
Occasionally...like every few hours, my whole farm goes down.  It appears to be because the nicehash pool is not accepting connections for a few minutes. It will then resume.

My questions:
Do you think nicehash is the most profitable?

I am staying with HiveOS for sure....I love it...but is the way I am mining through Nicehash the best idea?

Do you know why Nicehash connection goes down so much?

Thanks for your help!

Something caused the Ethereum hashrate to Double in less than two months.....I dont think it was this E3.  I dont think it was new GPU's.
It was the hidden Bitmain Eth Asic.  Lets hardfork and watch the hashpower lose at least 35%!!!  Its the only way to know for sure.

Yes, not only me think that they have an F3 with more hashrate

Exactly, only idiots think that is a real eth asic from bitmain, bitmain has a very powerful asic and is mining with them and bitmain will never confirm its existence. This official eth hash from bitmain is a trojan horse.

This^^^
Agreed all the way.....

This miner is just a Bitmain trap.  They are releasing this so everyone thinks that its not so bad and a hard fork gets avoided.  I bet they have much more powerful miner behind the scenes.  It also might flush out the competition so Bitmain can see what they have before coming out with their big boy ethereum miner which turns ethash into an Asic only algo just like what happened to Siacoin and many others.

We need hard fork now.  Teach them a lesson so they dont build asics again for Ethereum.  Etherium should be forking automatically every six months to prevent secret asic mining.

Yesterday the ethereum EIP guys started having much more serious technical discussions about a hard fork.  Maybe this scared Bitmain a little and they released this lame miner to take the pressure off and try to avoid a hard fork.  They probably already have a way more powerful version in the works and are mining with this already given the doubling in hashrate over the past two months.

Also dont forget.....Halong, Baikal and others will be releasing their versions soon.....just like Cryptonight.

Hark Fork is best solution to kill asics, allow decentralization and reduce risk from mostly one company.

More importantly, we need miners to embrace Ethereum and support it....thus building community.  It should not be underestimated how big of a role that miners play in the success and the popularity of Ethereum.  Miners play a big role in public relations and building community and the ultimate success of Ethereum.  Dont scare them away by only allowing the big boys to play with massive Asic mining factories.

It maybe possible in your rig, that if you normally underclock/undervolt/underpower and this is a separate step, forgetting this step might be an issue. and by forgetting this step runs all 12 cards full out. Especially if the PS doesn't trip fast enough.

Thanks 64.  This happened as soon as I powered the rig on.  immediately a large POP and smoke.  I think the pop came from one of the cards.  maybe more than one.....not sure.

Time for some basic PC troubleshooting steps.  First simplify your hardware config to  the minimum required set of parts to boot.  I presume you can boot up with just one PSU with minimum hardware config?  Can you boot with both PSUs connected?  With expander board?, with just one RX 570?, etc..

I think your right.  everything in this rig is suspect right now.   I am not sure how much stuff I burned up.  I am going to get out a fresh MB and PSU and test cards one by one to see what i have left.  then I will test the old PSU one by one.  Then I will try something different.  this is the second time I have done this now with this rig.  I personally think its either the coolermaster somehow doesnt play nice or the expander board and the Asus Z270AR dont play nice.  It was a major burnout though....not good at all.  All this money sitting here idle now.  Angry

Does anyone see any issue with taking one of the VGA strands that has an 8pin and 6pin on it and using the 8pin on the top of the card and the 6pin on a riser of another card?  both cards powered by same PSU.

Thanks Poop.

Evga and Powermaster use different style that are not interchangeable so that is OK.
The coolermaster is powering the mother board 24 pin and 8pin cpu cable.
All the GPU's are plugged into risers....so none are plugged directly into the motherboard.

Any more ideas?

Sparks flying.....need a diagnosis

I have built 17 rigs successfully.......but this next rig....whoa.....what am I doing wrong?Huh  I have fireworks and dont know why?

its a 12 gpu 570rx rig.  I am using asus z270AR  motherboard.  I use all 7 pcie slots, both m.2 slots and a 3 card expansion board.
I have a coolmaster 1200 PSU hooked up with a evga1600  using a dual PSU adapter.
I have the first 4 cards, their risers,  expander board and motherboard on the coolermaster 1200 psu.  These first four cards run through the expander board.  The expander board is powered from a molex off the same power supply(1200 coolermaster).
i have the next 8 cards, and their risers on the 1600.
I start it up and POP with smoke and spark.  it was very loud and startling.  i unplugged quickly
The pop  came from a card that is plugged into the 1600 using a normal motherboard pcie slot.  There could be other damage.  I dont know. This card is powered by an 8 pin on top.  This 8pin strand also powers a 6pin riser on another card above it..... which is also on the same power supply.

What am I doing wrong??!?!?

looks like your power costs are around .16 total.  You need to add up the categories.  You have different pricing above 250KW.

Where are you getting your information that ETH will go to POS soon.  Last I heard it was late 2019-2019?

Vitalik Buterin seems to hate miners......I believe he will go to POS as soon as he can.  I think he hates seeing miners make money and wants developers to make all the money.

AMD states that 17.11.1 drivers support 12 GPUs in Windows. Did anyone try it?
yes it does (as well as 17.10.2 and 17.10.3)

Is there a specific revision of Windows 10 required for 12 gpu?  Does 1703 work or is the fall creators edition required?  thx

Thanks for this, yours and others' posts helped me get mine working.
I'm mining LBRY and one thing that I found with suprnova is that the -dwal setting needed to be [usernameforsite].[workername] (without sq brackets) and -dpsw needed to [workerpassword]

Hope this helps someone else.

What kind of hashrates did you get out of this?  I was mining Eth at 30mh per card but when I switched to dual mining LBC, I was getting 23 Eth and a pretty low Library hashrate(40 i think).
I didnt go back to try a -DCRI setting but it doesnt seem like would work given that they are both low already.
thx

I figured it out.  Needed to update EthOS to claymore 10.  getting 357 Eth and 1030 LBC on 12 card rig.  I am good with that!!

NewEgg and Amazon have had them.  They are out right now(except for overpriced resellers).   The boards keep coming in and out of stock.  I have been able to get 3 of them over the past 3 weeks.  Keep checking and you will get some.

So far I have only created 12 gpu AMD rigs and they work great on Ethos hashing eth at 361mh around 1600 watts at the wall.

What processor are you currently running in your rigs if you don't mind me asking Smilee? I just grabbed one of these boards myself.
I run the cheapest I3's--- 6100 and 7100.  I have only tried 12 cards so I dont know how it will work with 13-19 cards.  Seems like it should work though.  BBT on youtube has been trying to get 14+ cards working with no luck so far but i think he will figure it out eventually so I keep watching.  for just reasons of size, complexity and length of usb cables....I am sticking with 12 for now.

I didn't get the chance to set original ROM but I did remove overclock. Not only it didn't help but it got worse! In fact, while I was trying different OC settings I noticed that the lower I was setting my clocks, the more unstable my rig became.

My rig usually freezes after a GPU hangs or after a share gets rejected. The clocks I am using and the ROM I am using have been stable for months now with previous drivers and miner version

One more thing I have noticed is that after a rig restart (following a freeze) the miner starts, the clocks and voltages are being set normally but I get~ 3.5% less performance than usual. Once I restart the miner it gets back at 100%. Does anyone else have the same issue?

Me. And I have to completly shutdown the computer (PSU switch) for that to stop happening.
Also, I've set the default rom, just for testing, without any OC. I still get invalid shares on ethereum and a warning to check my overclock. (eu1.ethermine.org)

In case anyone is having the issue with rx500 series gpu's that can't reduce voltage below +/-0.9v, that is caused by the VRAM voltage. So if you have your vram at 2000mhz @ 1v, your core won't go any lower than 1v (under load, it drops a little). Because the default vram voltage on my sapphire rx580 4gb pulse is 950mv, the lowest possible voltage is 950mv. So, I did this:

-Download OverdriveNTool from guru3d foruns.
-Disable ALL P-States on memory and core except the higher state. (to disable click on P0, P1, P2,...)
-Set your gpu clock frequency and desired voltage on the last P state (P7). My example: 1250MHZ @ 900mv
-Set your ram clock frequency and the same voltage as your gpu on last P state (P2). My example: 2050mhz @ 900mv
-Save and give a name to that profile. My example: "2050"
-Now put overdriveNtool on the same folder as your "start.bat".
-Edit your .bat file and remove all overclock options from the claymore miner and add this before starting the miner:
Code:
OverdriveNTool.exe -r0 -r1 -r2 -r3 -r4 -p0"0" -p1"2050" -p2"2050" -p3"2050" -p4"2050"
timeout 5
That will reset the cards, apply the profile named "2050" to gpu0+1+2+3+4 and wait 5 seconds before starting claymore.
Enjoy your lower power consuption. Make sure that you tweak the dcri value if you change your gpu clock. Higher clock = higher dcri

TigTex,
Thanks for posting this.  This has solved a lot of my problems and I am finally able to starting switching rigs over to the blockchain driver.  I was really struggling.  I think trying to use AB and claymore commands together was messy and a lot of my rigs are suffering because of it.  This solution seems to work for now.  I will test overnight.
Thanks Again.

Question for anyone.....what is a good GPU-Z power draw per card for a MSI RX580 4gb gaming for Eth only or ETH+ LBR dual?  How about a RX570?  Just looking for a rough target.  I have 85 for ETH and 107 for dual mine on RX580 now.  I will measure at the wall when I switch back to 110v plug.

I can't seem to connect to the supernova's decred wallet.  None of my miners can send anything to it this morning.  Anyone else having this issue?  I can't even log on to the wallet to see what could be wrong.
I had the same issue with one of my miners.  I gave up on it an switched to coinmine.pl library.  Done with Suprnova for now.  I dont know whats up.
