Re: US or China: Who would win the AI race?
by

None of them. I would say that the Japanese are having the best AI technology right now. US may be able to overtake them in the future, but I don't think that the Chinese will ever be able to compete with them. There is very little innovation in China.
I actually read on another forum about the way Japan implements artificial intelligence. It appears to me that the way they are going to have their AI revolution is very well researched and they made sure that the people involved in creating a smart city based on AI are well aware of what is going to happen with their information.

Re: Why Millennials like Cryptocurrencies
by
SnowAugustine
on 27/11/2018, 22:45:46 UTC
Not a millenial here but I really do not get the thing about bunching an age group and then just assuming things based on their generation. Maybe it's just me or whatever. I wouldn't know if millenials really do like cryptocurrencies. How much do they like it to say people in their 40's to 50's? If it were true, maybe it's because younger people are more open to new technologies than their older contemporaries. Blockchain, AI, or whatever new technology, perhaps they are more eager to learn more about these new things as they are the ones who are really going to live with them. And good for them.

Re: Can virtual wallets be confiscated by courts?
by
SnowAugustine
on 27/11/2018, 22:38:13 UTC
"The bottom line for law enforcement is that they cannot seize virtual currency if they do not recognize it and do not know where to look. Even if evidence of virtual currency is found, unless law enforcement is equipped with the knowledge and the tools to take secure possession of it, then it will not happen and criminals will keep their ill-gotten gains."

So does that mean that the law will not touch your virtual wallet in case of debt, for example?

it means they can't seize cryptocurrency if they can't recognize it when searching your devices, or if they can't break your wallet passphrase. if you encrypt wallet files or private keys effectively, they won't be able to access them.

if the government can seize your wallet, they gladly will. consider the case of silk road creator, ross ulbricht. or the other cases where the USMS auctioned off coins. supposedly, the bulgarian government is sitting on 213,000+ seized bitcoins.
Woah... that's a lot of money. So, basically, if the authorities know of the digital wallet's existence, then they will seize it. Otherwise, it will stay safe and sound. Sounds logical.

Ok, just to clarify for those who were wondering why I was asking this. It's just plain old curiosity and a healthy argument with a friend that lead me to this question.

Thanks, everyone.

I actually had to do some digging for this. But are you referring to https://virternity.com/virie?
Apparently they are still at the phase of crowdfunding so there is no telling if it's something that's going to be really popular for people to invest in. Maybe, I will put like the minimum amount in their crowdfunding just to see what it will be like. lol
I find the website still a bit vague but perhaps it's still in the process of marketing itself as it is really hard to find them in google. The Virie Market sounds curious. I wonder how they are going to present that and if they already have partners who will join them in that venture. I'm a bit concerned on "moderation is totally impossible on virie market". Like what do they mean? You can sell as you want?
I like that they actually have in mind of using their crypto for using it in their own words, "to trade GOODS and SERVICES".

Can virtual wallets be confiscated by courts?
by
SnowAugustine
on 26/11/2018, 19:43:49 UTC
I am just curious and have been googling on whether the law has rules about virtual wallets. Maybe I am just not really familiar with the technical terms so I do not understand well. Or I just didn't use the correct search terms.
To give an example, if you have debts or have to pay for alimony or something of the like, are virtual wallets included in your assets to be seized or something?
According to the summary of this article: https://www.acamstoday.org/real-considerations-for-law-enforcement-in-seizing-virtual-currency/
"The bottom line for law enforcement is that they cannot seize virtual currency if they do not recognize it and do not know where to look. So does that mean that the law will not touch your virtual wallet in case of debt, for example?

Depends on how much of my privacy I need to sacrifice and depends on how "smart" this city is going to be. For example, China is becoming a technologically advanced city but the residents seemed like they are living straight out of Black Mirror. I don't think that's a city I want to live in regardless of how "smart" the city is.
Ah yes, with their social standing credit thing... They are like living in a prequel to a Dystopian novel and they are not even aware of it because it appears to them that what they are doing is something normal. They appear to embrace Big Brother with open arms.

BiChip - crypto which uses a chip which can be fitted under the human skin
by

on 23/11/2018, 21:48:48 UTC
https://metro.co.uk/2018/11/22/transhumans-reveal-why-they-want-everyone-to-implant-chips-under-their-skin-8161505/
"It serves as a super-secure cryptocurrency wallet. This is the use that BiChip are currently exploring with the release of their own virtual currency called BiChipCoin. BiChipCoin will also let you pay, send and receive money by ‘a wave of your hand’, although it can be used without a chip too using an online wallet. The currency works a bit differently from Bitcoin, according to its creators, who claim it’s based on the companies real assets and properties, making the currency work a bit like traditional stock."
--
Basically a chip that would be embedded into you that you could use to pay for things with the wave of your hand. It's like a cinematic effect but these guys are making it in real life. They have put even more high tech into their crypto game. However, would people really be accepting of something that they would be putting into their bodies? Is a million chips wishful thinking on their part?
Personally, I am not for it. I do not have tattoos so I don't think it's something for me.

Does anyone else find it weird or even disappointing that Donald Trump (the 45th POTUS in case you're reading this in 2156) doesn't do televised Apprentice-style firings from the Oval Office?

So far he's been delegating the firings to:

I was quite sure that swamp drainage was one of the reasons he was elected. Should be good for ratings to do it personally in the most cringy and humiliating way.

It's already a madhouse as it is already is and sometimes what is happening in the country feels like a bad reality tv show. But then again, at least, by doing this it could "appear" fun and have more entertainment "value".

How much would you pay for immortality?
by
SnowAugustine
on 15/11/2018, 01:05:12 UTC
Considering the value of goods right now in your respective countries, how much do you think should immortality cost? This, of course, includes the option to die whenever you wish to.
I just thought about this because of another thread that reminded me of a news predicting that there will be a technology that could provide virtual immortality say 2060 or around that time. I am not expecting them to give it for free so how much do you think should it be?

Maybe this should go to the Economy thread. But yes, I get where you're coming from. I think it is safe to say that we all want to pay things for the price that is listed from the time that we bought it. Maybe a crypto could do this in the future.

No doubt about it. Older people tend to be more wary of new technologies. It's not that easy for them to adapt because they are already used to what they currenly have - having lived for so long. :p

Re: What is your attitude to lgbt ?
by
SnowAugustine
on 09/11/2018, 17:50:37 UTC
I have one question why we should protect their rights, when nobody protects ours. For example i have a fair that my husband leaves me for "experiment" and will want to sex with a man. And of course i can not watch lgbt films or something like this. And i really have a desire to know, is it possible ?
I'm sorry but you may have to rephrase your statement as it is very confusing. Basing on what I understand from your post, just let other people live their lives the way they want it. It's their lives and it wouldn't kill you if they love someone of the same sex. If your husband wants to have sex with a man then I think it's fair to say that your husband is part of the lgbt. If he goes away with another man or has sex with another person, just file a divorce.

Which altcoin would replace bitcoin in terms of hype?
by
SnowAugustine
on 09/11/2018, 17:45:10 UTC
Bitcoin is the most famous cryptocurrency but it has a lot of bad rep. Which altcoin do you think can take the crown from bitcoin in the future and why do you think it would be? I see cryptocurrencies lasting for a very long time with the possibility of being a true currency if not in this century then the next so I think it's just a legit curiosity.

How to help someone who is not helping himself?
by
SnowAugustine
on 09/11/2018, 17:40:43 UTC
I have a friend who is really in very bad luck financially. He finds it hard to get a job etc etc and so I advised him to get a job online where he won't be judged by how he dresses or how he looks. He just have to get a job and then do his best to perform it. He just kept on saying that he will get into it but does nothing. Yet, he continues to complain how fucked up his life is. It is already annoying for a lot of us, his friends. However, I do not want to be a bad friend.

Does anyone fear death same as me?
If you fear death, perhaps you can be comforted with the news that there are already researchers doing everything they can to make virtual immortality possible. I've read that they are expecting it to be done within this century. You can have your mind and consciousness uploaded into the internet or something and possibly be able to live like that FOREVER.

Re: Thai Revenue Department to use blockchain to track taxes
by
SnowAugustine
on 08/11/2018, 23:11:37 UTC
Here are example from Canadian government using blockchain to track everything.

1. NRC-IRAP - Blockchain publishing prototype. Although it is still a prototype, but you will get the importance of using blockchain specially in government sector. I think one advantage is that everything is transparent, as in this case. For Thailand though, it will be easy to track and even tax payers can have access to that private ledger so that they can check if they have paid the right tax or have tax refunds. Or if tax payers will not have access, at least those tax collectors will have a central repository to look at and they can easily chase those who are not paying tax. Their job could well be very easy.  Grin
This sounds good. Well done for Canada to make things transparent in their government by using blockchain. Same goes to Thailand. What are the chances for the US to follow something like this though? Maybe if the US does it, more countries would follow and government transparency through blockchain would be the norm.
