Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs

Hello all...

Just wanted to add a few thoughts.

I'm a small time miner that is running 6 sp20e and 2 sp10's.  I got rid of all my antminers to stick with SP-Tech after the success and ease I experienced with my first SP10.

Lately one of my SP20e's developed a problem that baffled support@SP-Tech enough that Zvi had to get involved.  He spent a good 40 minutes working with me to resolve the problem, with a great attitude and the patience to explain what he was doing at each stage and answering my questions.  I don't think there are too many other lead engineers that would spend that kind of time and effort on a small customer!

So, I'm even more impressed and extremely satisfied with Sp-Tech and just wanted to share my experience.  With support like this, I'm sure I'll find space for the "industrial" class miner out next.

Thanks Zvi and SP-Tech

Gentlemen,

I have an SP20 that has decided to restart itself every 300 (roughly) seconds.  This unit has been running alongside its sisters just fine for over a month and developed this problem yesterday.  Sooooo...a few questions...

Do I email spondoolies directly and if so which email address?

Do I simply let this post prompt someone at SP-tech respond?

What reporting or screen shots can I provide to help tech support solve this problem?

Is there a few quick things I can check myself before escalating this to SP-tech support?

Thanks in advance!

try backing down the .77 to .75   yeah you may stay at 1600 but more stable   show us this page

see all of mine are 85c due to under clock  if you have a lot of 120 or 125c you are just a bit too much overclocked

As requested.  I find it strange that I have such a variance in temps...or is that normal?

I've been reading the posts and just thought I would throw my 0.0006369BTC regarding temps, psu and hash speed...

I use 1 HP Common Slot 1200W Server PSU with a Gigampz BB per SP20.  I'm not concerned with noise and power is cheap.  I am guessing that the spikes in the "last day" chart is the SP trying to auto correct for the PSU but I'm not sure.  If anyone has some thoughts I'd welcome them.

Thanks for setting this up guys. (RS and Spondoolies) I've recently made the decision to move from one supplier over to SP-Tech having sampled the water with the SP10 a while back and recently an SP20.  For a while now I've been contemplating the best way to transition, and then this offer came up and solved my dilemma in split second.

So...just wanted to say that it's nice to see a company this responsive to its customers...and vice versa.

They have a UK address you can use which will lower the cost drastically.

Apparently not for this type of problem.  This is the response I got when I asked the question.

    Hi,
you can only return the defective board to USA or China.

Hmmm...I've had this C1 running for a few weeks now and had no problems until last night.  When I look at the status page I get this...
I've emailed support but thought I would post here as well.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Hello:
You can configure user and selecting freqency throught web.

What he means to say is try changing the frequency, doing a power cycle and see what that does.

Yep done that...and everything else that anyone has already suggested...including the guys at bitmain. They've been responding to my emails on a daily basis as they give me new things to try, so I will say that they are certainly trying to help me. In the end they gave me an address in the US (I'm in the UK) to send the control board to.  Which means I'm already down a week and it looks like this miner will be down for at least another, although it's more likely to be several, weeks.

As you might have guessed, I'm not a happy bunny.  However, I'm not going to flame Bitmain or be an ass.  This is the second issue I've had with Bitmain in the last month, after almost a year of buying equipment, using hashnest and mining on antpool with nary a problem.  So the end result is that my other C1's are being sold off and I'm going to let my wallet do the talking with future purchases.

Thanks for all the advice...

Ok....I got the following emails from Bitmain...

   Hi,
Please change the pool difficulty settings to a higher value to try, more than 2048.

   2014-12-11 19:05 GMT+08:00 Bitmain Tech <info@bitmaintech.com>:
   Hi,
After you change the pool, have you restarted the miner?
Please try with more pools, the issue is strange and I've also forwarded it to engineers to check.
please try to do more test with different pools.
   Thanks.

I responded as follows:

    Sir,

    I have tried the following:

    1.   Three different pools (antpool, bitminter, btcguild)
    2.   I have adjusted the difficulty on two of the pools (btcguild, bitminter)
    3.   I have restarted using the menu after changing the pools
    4.   I have unplugged the miner after changing the pools

Please find below an excerpt from a forum board discussion I have been having with your representative “Dogie”

    (deleted for brevity)

I have tried his suggestions as well with no solution.  He suggested that the controller needs to be replaced.  If that is the case how is this done and how quickly.  I am sure you understand the importance that
time has on mining.  This miner has been down for 2 days now and I’m losing BTC.

    Please advise.  Thank you.

Soooo....that's where I am at the moment...

Dogie, I took your advice and and have the same result.  No joy.  Everything appears to be OK except it does not hash.  I haven't heard anything from Bitmain yet so I'm pretty much stuck...

Hmm. Are you able to SSH in and look what error the cgminer window is throwing up?

Dogie, I got in via SSH (thanks) and got the following:  I'm not entirely sure what error I'm looking for and there's been no further word from Bitmain.  Any thoughts?

Hmm. Are you able to SSH in and look what error the cgminer window is throwing up?

Actually I can't get into the C1 via SSH.  The unit won't accept the password for root.  I haven't changed it and am able to login via the web interface.  I'm not sure what the problem is...

I got an email from Bitmain support as follows:

   Hi,
Please refresh the web page to see if there any help. the miner needs some time to finish the initial settings.
If no use, please try to mine in other pools, you may try our Antpool as well:)

   Best Regards

   BITMAIN

Needless to say I tried refreshing and leaving the miner on for an hour to see if some magic fairy's could get it to work - but still no luck.  I can see the difficulty changing and the "getworks" are increasing as well so it appears to be talking to the various pools and receiving work.  It's just not doing any work!

Oh and I tried the freq change just to see...and no it didn't work either.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Day 15

Just got an Email from Bitmain Support saying that my question had a "catcher" and two links to pages.  I tried both links and got "page doesn't exist" each time.

BUT

I went into my antpool account and found that they had reset my wallet so I could put in a new address.  YEA!

It took a while but Bitmain solved the problem and communicated.  Thank you Bitmain.

Day Freaking 9

Zero resolution

Zero communication since the 15th

I've tried just about every product Bitmain has rolled out and have been a happy ANT customer until now.  I've been patient.  I've given Bitmain the benefit of the doubt.  I haven't flamed on the board! (either or Bitmain or Dogie)

Do l have to be an asshat like everyone else in order to get a resolution to this?

Still no joy!  I have responded via PM and email with the information requested.  Zero response, zero resolution...come on guys...you're better than this.

Its being worked on, there isn't much more to say. You're free to move your miners to another pool in the interim. Meanwhile, your balance is safe and isn't going anywhere.

We have double checked your case carefully, here are replies:

I am unable to see the BTC address I originally entered when setting up the account.

Because you pressed 'Lock' before inputing your BTC address, so BTC address is empty, and you can not add/change any address any more in your side. This problem can be fixed via sending your registered email address to us (PM is also available).

Ditto.

Please also PM us your BTC address to get earnings earned before you are able to set a BTC address by yourself.

Day 3.

Still have the same problem.

Automatic withdrawal did not execute.

I am unable to see the BTC address I originally entered when setting up the account.

I am unable to change or add an address for BTC. withdrawal.

I have emailed the bitmain email address twice and got a single response stating the payout schedule.  Not helpful.

I tried the ticket system multiple times with multiple failures as already documented by others. The last time I tried it worked and the ticket is in "waiting" status.

I have posted on here and got a response from "dogie" which was unhelpful as it offered no resolution or path to resolution.  I responded to his thoughts with further clarification and have not yet heard back from him.

And now the settings pages doesn't even show the BTC address that I set up.

That would be why, how can they pay you if there isn't an address on your account. Did you verify the address via the link sent by email?

I got a response from xlc1985 stating

Hi, we will solve the problem as soon as possible, we now is the day UTC 00:00 - 01:00 pay, manual to mention the function being developed and tested, will soon provide use immediately

It's currently 17:16 in Bejing on the third day of this problem.

An aside

...you know...my very first miner was a S1.  They are tough little guys that I have pushed since day one and never had a problem. I even chopped the heatsinks down turned them 90 degrees screwed them back on and stuffed 4 full units in a 2U Dell 2950 server case with the 2 stock 750w psu's driving them overclocked!  When the S3 came out I bought a bunch of those because the S1's where bulletproof and I could buy a couple at a time. (helping the smaller home miner like me was a great attraction to Bitmain) Which lead to buying a bunch of S3's and subsequently S3+'s. While a bit disappointed about the specs they, too have been great little machines and I have been a happy loyal bitmain customer.  So much so, that when they announced the HASHNEST project I dipped my toe in and tried it - because I liked what bitmain stood for and the products they produced. Although not a spectacular success, I have recovered my investment and chalked HASHNEST down to "just doesn't work for me".  Then the C1 arrives and so I buy a couple to test the water (pun intended).  So far they've been great and I believe they'll be just as bulletproof as all the other Ants I have.

So up until now I have had nothing but positive experiences with Bitmain and while reading about the issues that other were having with various products, I never needed to make use of the support capabilities. I feel like I've been growing along with Bitmain as "we've" expanded and tired new things - most successful, some not so much.

But this episode is very seriously eroding my faith in the firm.  Maybe they've grown too much and simply don't have the infrastructure in place to support the new endeavors?  Maybe they simply don't care about the "little guy" anymore?  I understand that "dogie" is a paid "facilitator" for them and I'm sure he's helped a lot of people.  In fact, I used his guides extensively when I first started looking at BTC hardware.  BUT there is a difference between solving problems  - and offering advice or thoughts on a subject.

I'm concerned and a little let down, perhaps irrationally so, with Bitmain.  I fully understand that problems are going to occur.  It's a fact of life that things simply don't work all the time, and that doesn't really bother me.  What does bother me is how this firm is dealing with its problems.  We shall see...

Fortunately I, too, have grown and after cutting my teeth with Bitmain, a couple of Spondoolies products are in the rack and I have a feeling that they'll be joined by more soon.

I just wish my fondness for Bitmain could remain intact a bit longer....

Ah ha...I may be a "noob" but I'm not an idiot... Wink

I DID indeed enter an address on my account when I first set it up, and thinking that there might be a simple explanation I went to the settings page to confirm the correct address...only to find that there is no address and even more disturbing - no option or opportunity to enter one.  The "Bitcoin Setting" field is completely blank as is the address field.  Additionally, I did not get an email asking me to verify the address (just checked through junk/spam/deleted folders again).

So...it would appear that I need someone from inside antpool to restore the ability for my username to insert an address so I can create a new one, or resend the verification email to use the previous address (if it's still in the antpool system somewhere).

Easy enough...right....

Well, I pointed a bit of hash power at AntPool a little over two days ago just to try it out, (Bitminter is my home) because I'm a "learn by doing" type of guy and really like the AntMiners I've got thus far.  Unfortunately, it's looking to be a very short run experiment.  So far, besides the incredibly inaccurate worker speed graph my biggest problem is that:

I HAVEN'T BEEN PAID!

I've been through two "automatic" payment cycles with balances above 0.01 with no joy. And now the settings pages doesn't even show the BTC address that I set up.  I have sent an email to info@bitmaintech as well as a support ticket (which appeared to disappear as soon as I selected "create, and is not listed on the left hand menu under "my tickets").

I don't post much on here for a variety of reasons but this debacle has prompted me to reachout in a last ditch effort to get a bit of assistance from....well anyone related to bitmaintech...

Did I mention that there is no manual method for me to get my earnings, which I admit, wouldn't be an issue if the "automatic" payment system was working for me!  But it isn't...

-Edit:  14/11/14 - Just got an email from Bitmaintech asking when I started mining and repeating when the automatic payouts are supposed to happen. I've been mining since the 12th. and had enough to meet the min on the first day.  I can forgive the payout not happening on the first day...but it should have happened on the 14th!
