Re: RuggedInbox.com - Free offshore email

Update:
Ok, after failures all day, the email finally went through in the evening.  I have no clue as to why.
So, I hardly know how to approach this erratic problem.  I do not know what to look for being that it is erratic like this.
Scratching my head.

Update 06/08/2015:
I have not been able to send.  The error in the post above means that there is something wrong with my Claws settings?  It comes after "STARTTLS".  Any idea what I can look for in my own settings?  Claws is able to connect to serve and download all incoming email.  I am only having a problem with sending.

Thanks in advance!

Update #2 06/08/2015:

I decided to check my router settings.  As I went through the security settings, I remembered checking the "Anti-Hacking" checkbox a few weeks ago.  I removed the checkbox and the email sent.  I caused my own problem.  Doing too many things at once, otherwise I would have remembered the change I made immediately.

I really, really like Claws, and Ruggedinbox.

Well, that didn't work.   Sad
I was able to send, and then I cannot send.  I tried many times today but, I get the following error:

POP3< +OK 0 0
POP3> QUIT
POP3< +OK Logging out.
* Account 'xxxxxxx@ruggedinbox.com': Connecting to SMTP server: ruggedinbox.com ...
SMTP< 220 csds.local ESMTP
ESMTP> EHLO localhost
ESMTP< 250-csds.local
ESMTP< 250-8BITMIME
ESMTP< 250-AUTH PLAIN LOGIN
ESMTP< 250-XCLIENT NAME HELO
ESMTP< 250-XFORWARD NAME ADDR PROTO HELO
ESMTP< 250-ENHANCEDSTATUSCODES
ESMTP< 250
ESMTP> STARTTLS
ESMTP< 500 5.5.1 Error: unknown command
** error occurred on SMTP session
*** Error occurred while sending the message:
500 5.5.1 Error: unknown command

I do not remember making any changes on my end, it just stopped sending.  I can receive without any trouble.
I see the error comes after STARTTLS.  What can I do to check my setting?  Here are the Send settings in Claws:

send:
generated message-id: yes
send account mail address in Message-ID: no
generate x-mailer header: no

SMTP authentication (SMTP AUTH): yes
Authentication method: Automatic
User ID: empty
Password: empty
Authenticate with POP3 before sending: no

SSL:
POP3:
Use SSL for POP3 connection

Send (SMTP):
Use STARTTLS command to start SSL session

Use non-blocking SSL: yes

Advanced:

SMTP port: no
POP3 port: no
Domain name: no
(everything is unchecked)

If you can think of anything that I can check, I would appreciate it!
Thank you!

Tried to send to a hotmail account, and a Live account, both are Microsoft.
I received a bounceback message stating my server is on the blocklist.
Is this something that is fixable or, is the Ruggedinbox server forever going to be on the blocklist due to the nature of this server?
I have a hard time believing that anyone would try to use Ruggedinbox to send SPAM since you can only send an email once every 3 minutes.  However, it is on the blocklist so, who knows?  Too bad too,.... I love this email!
Hoping that this can be fixed.

My work around for this problem is to get the family member who I am trying to send an email to, to become create a ruggedinbox account.

Thanks!

SUCCESS!!!!

I am successfully logged in, sending and receiving email using claws.

This is great!

What I found:
There were a few changes I had to make in the configuration settings.  You did a great job listing each setting and it was easy to fix.

Many thanks!

I was getting a complex.
Just what am I to do with all this adrenelin now?

I am able to receive.  Big hurray!!!
But I am not able to send!!!!

Here is my error:

[17:00:42] ESMTP> EHLO localhost
[17:00:42] ESMTP< 250-ruggedinbox.com
[17:00:42] ESMTP< 250-PIPELINING

[17:00:42] ESMTP< 250-ENHANCEDSTATUSCODES
[17:00:42] ESMTP< 250-8BITMIME
[17:00:42] ESMTP< 250 DSN
[17:00:42] ESMTP> MAIL FROM:<xxxxxx@ruggedinbox.com> SIZE=402
[17:00:42] SMTP< 250 2.1.0 Ok
[17:00:42] SMTP> RCPT TO:<xxxxxx@ruggedinbox.com>
[17:00:42] SMTP< 553 5.7.1 <xxxxxx@ruggedinbox.com>: Sender address rejected: not logged in
** error occurred on SMTP session
*** Error occurred while sending the message:
553 5.7.1 <xxxxxx@ruggedinbox.com>: Sender address rejected: not logged in

Also, I get this warning:

One of your applications (probably an email client) appears to be making a potentially unencrypted and unsafe connection to port 110
Anything sent over this connection could be monitored. Please check your application's configuration and use only encrypted protocols, such as SSL, if possible

So that you know, I understand how big an issue this is, not some little thing.  And it requires much research, making this a big deal.
I appreciate all your efforts.
I really need this email system.  You have no idea how much peace of mind I will have when this issue is resolved.  Not just me but,
a whole bunch of people will be using this in the future.  It is the best system anywhere.  So, be encouraged on the efforts you have put in.
This is a worthwile effort!

Thanks from me!

 Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

I think this is a very good idea!

There is a youtube video about Claws, and it is pretty good.  But, there is no way to include each provider's custom account information in the video.

Some of us are using Tails.  If there are any special considerations for this, please add it in your instructions too.   Smiley

Thanks again!

You have given me hope!  Smiley

I now have this message:

* Account 'xxxxxxr@ruggedinbox.com': Connecting to POP3 server: ruggedinbox.com...
*** SSL handshake failed
*** Connection failed.

I made sure the Use non-blocking SSL is unchecked.
Tried again and had the same issue.
I can login to this account via webmail, but not in claws.

What should I check next?

Thanks.

I changed my settings to:

Server information

    Protocol: Pop3
    Server for receiving: ruggedinbox.com
    SMTP server (send): ruggedinbox.com
   User ID:  myusername@ruggedinbox.com                   Password: myPassword

Thius is my error:

* Account 'xxxxxx': Connecting to POP3 server: ruggedinbox.com...
*** SSL handshake failed
*** Connection failed.

Am I supposed to have the setting set at:

 Protocol: Pop3
    Server for receiving: ruggedinbox.com:995
    SMTP server (send): ruggedinbox.com:465

    User ID:  myusername@ruggedinbox.com                   Password: myPassword

I have failed.   Sad
I'm not worthy.

Trying desperately to make claws work but, have had no success.
May I try this?...

Look at the settings below, and see what is wrong them:

Basic
Personal information

Server information
  • Protocol: Pop3
    Server for receiving: ruggedinbox.com
    SMTP server (send): ruggedinbox.com
    User ID:  myusername                                         Password: myPassword

SSL
  • POP3
Use SSL for POP3 connection: selected
    Send
Use STARTTLS command to start SSL session: selected
    Client certificates
    Use non-blocking SSL:  de-selected

Advantage
  • Everything deselected

Sign key
  • Use default GnuPC key: selected

If you see what I have done wrong, let me know and I will make the adjustments.
I sure do appreciate the help.

I am so happy to have run across Ruggedinbox!
This is just what my family was looking for.
So tired of data mining.  Sad
So, thanks to the team who has created this!!!!

So, I was wondering if there was a "Claws For Dummies" book or something.
I am trying to configure Claws and just do not understand what goes where
in the configuration settings.  My family has always used Yahoo and Gmail,
using the web interface.  But now, in order to be private, we would like to use
Claws to pull the email from the server to our personal drives using POP3.  Even though
our email server is offshore, if nothing is ever stored there, the better.

Is there a place that describes how to configure Claws?

Thanks again for the great system.
