Re: Nexus - Pure SHA3 + CPU/GPU + nPoS + 15 Active Innovations + More to Come

There have been some rumors on slack about the possibility of someone using a gpu miner on the cpu prime chain (with custom code I would suspect since the hash mining gpu code is not compatible). Has that showed up anywhere here? That could start a new pps war like asics did in sha256 coin! (of course, that could be a reason for not publicizing something like this Wink)

Is there any place that you can use/exchange this coin?  I know there has been lots of voting, but I haven't seen any results. What good is it to accumulate a coin that can't be used anywhere, no matter how great it is?

Re: Antminer U3: Decentralization continued. Order now, Ship on Nov. 5th

Decentralization continued, really??.  Sorry Bitmain, while you guys have provided lots of good product to consumers the decentralization train left the station some time ago.

Why does everyone quote ck like he is a God? He's just one person, like everyone else. He has no additional knowledge of the market, like everyone else.

He isn't God. He is just right as Flying Hellfish and klondike_bar say. If you disagree then why not put up a case to rivals his? Unfortunately the numbers don't square and anyone who is looking forward understands this game of small mining is dead for profit motives.

Do you have any evidence to support some other conclusion? If you do then please share that with the community.

Now having said that. Maybe units with other purposes beyond mining or dual purpose and mining might be the way to decentralize mining this bee hive looking unit is a step in that direction.

As a hopeless optimist, not to mention a gadget freak, there are a few SHA altcoin out there that you could mine with these. So far the problem has been that the $/GH/day factor has still been in BTC's favor.  However, if BTC does become even more centralized to the massive farms, then could there be a chance that altcoin mining could still be at least marginally profitable to the hobbyist? There has been some effort to make altcoins more relevant (like NU's attempt to build on PPC - even though the jury is still out on how successful that will be).  While BTC is the 800 lb gorilla in the cybercoin-for-commerce world, there still might be a place for others (again, the hopeless optimist speaking here Wink.

Thanks for the fast replies.

I bought my R-Box from Canary along with the power supply, so I assume it is adequate.

IF the cause is an unstable pool, I am wondering why that problem doesn't happen to my Antminer U2's? I should have been more specific, that there are 3 devices (R-Box and 2 U2's) but the only one that dies is the R-box.
It was a driver-specific bug when it is starved for work (which happens when the pools are unstable).

My R-Box would die at times (usually when I was farthest away from it!), but I got Multiminer (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=248173.0) and it's been running great since (I haven't checked the logs to see if it needed to be restarted at all, though).  Multiminer runs on top of bfgminer and monitors it's performance and behavior.  There are even apps for your phone to allow you to monitor and even restart the miners if you need to.  I'm also running 10 U1/U2s and they are behaving themselves better as well.  I'm currently mining UNO on miningpool.co

  • Edit cg.cmd in notepad and enter pool information as below. Do NOT remove the additional strings (--icarus-options 115200:1:1 --anu-freq 270).

That part of the doc is inaccurate, the parameter used is anu-freq. For those of you using Rockminer's 4.3.3 windows build, you may also notice that it defaults to 270 no matter what setting you use. I've rebuilt the binary with the latest 4.3.3 code and that resolves the issue. If you're looking for an end to end simple installer for Windows, I have built one using the WIX toolset:

I noticed that. The link only takes me to my mega account (or to the login screen if I'm not already logged in).

I assume the equivalent .conf entry for the frequency would be:
"anu-freq" : "270",

The Rock site (somewhere) had "--rock-freq 270" in an example.  Are you sure "anu" is correct? (I'll probably try both anyway but thought others might have the question as well).  You also might note that 290 is the 'advertised' max freq the vendor recommends.

Thanks!

I found this approach to be most efficient on windows:
1. download current cgminer from: http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/ unzip into a separate folder somewhere.
2. next, unzip and move the contents of the cgminer-win0.3.1.zip (from rockminer) into the folder from step 1.  This will move and replace up to 17 files and will overwrite the standard cgminer distribution.  Now you have a cgminer version that will work with r-box.
3. run cgminer and hash.

Will the modified cgminer still be able to run other devices (i.e., antminer U1/U2s), or should it be run as a separate instance?

Given that China is cracking down on bitcoin exchanges and banks supporting them, it's possible that BitMain's capital is caught in the ruckus.  If that's the case, then they may not (currently) be able to pay their suppliers, which obviously would have an impact on BitMain's ability to produce more devices.  In this scenario, I can see them trying to evaluate their options before releasing a statement on the situation.

Having said that, it would be a good PR move for them to make SOME kind of statement, at least acknowledging the requests for information from their customers...

I'm willing to let Reactor hold my payment until we get a better idea of where we stand as a customer... as long as it's not too long!   Undecided

Site looks nice - I like the idea of having a place to go to try something new, even if speculative.  Like someone else posted, I tried to keep up with the new offerings until it got ridiculous.  Now I mostly limit myself to coin I can actual trade somewhere and has some hash rate behind it, since I have a few wallets with nowhere to trade them.  I appreciate the idea of someone keeping an eye out for new prospects with potential.

That brings me to a suggestion.  Could you post on your site somewhere (probably the FAQs tab) the main exchanges where your coins are listed and maybe a link to the 'home page' for the coins (or at least where the wallet can be found)?  You can be a 'one stop shop' for this category!  It would make it more attractive to potential miners.  Since you are already doing the research on the coins, you should have that info close at hand somewhere.

Cheers!

All you noobs - chill!  Flound is totally legit.  I've been mining on multipool for over 6 months.  Yes, the pools are fouled up, but not because it's a scam.  Running multiple coin across three server farms is complex and a challenge on a good day, so when things go bad, they can go REAL bad, especially if you are under an attack. Sure, Flound could post more updates, but if he's up to his elbows in the system, he's got more on his mind than I'd want to deal with!

Give him some time.  Mine elsewhere until things are stable here, but know that he's doing all he can to restore the system and to protect your earnings as best he can.

hey cs2000...

I'm using your instructions from several pages back.... thanks for the download.

Will this work with the older USB Erupters as well?  I have a mixed setup (49 port hub, gradually replacing old erupters with AntMiner U1s).

I did a test with 1 erupter and I don't think it was hashing with it.
Well, I ran mine with 3 ants and 2 Block Eruptors but whilst it worked, it wasn't stable. The BE's kept starting and stopping and the Ant's weren't mining at full speed.

Perhaps BFG miner hands them better but id say to avoid it to be honest., bearing in mind it would take 6.5 BE's to reach the 2GHS that 1 single overclocked Ant can create, you only need 8 Ant's to surpass the speed that 49 BE's can hash at.

+1
I posted a similar issue on the bfgminer thread regarding 3.10.0. My U1s (4) keep on trucking, but my BEs now stop within an hour of a restart.  My 4 U1s hash slightly faster (at x0981) than my 22 BEs, so I'm also thinking it's time to pawn off, er, sell my BEs and acquire more U1s...

EDIT: Looks like it was a hardware configuration issue with my hubs...

Thank you, Luke-Jr, for 3.10.0!  Now my U1s and BEs will play well together on the same win7-64 i3 machine (after fiddling with the drivers) - I had to run them on separate machines until now.  But now there's a new issue.  My BEs (22), which have been running rock solid on (ahem) cgminer for several months, now all shut down between a half hour to an hour after a restart.  An S-B-Y restarts bfgminer which picks them all up again. The U1s (4) keep on trucking (except during the restart, of course). All of the miners are on powered hubs and are cooled by a fan.  Using the silas VCP driver. U1s running with clock:x0981 generating a fairly consistent ~1.9Ghs.

Is there a log I can look at that might indicate which might shed some light into this? I'm running the 64 bit bfgminer - should I try using the 32 bit version instead?

Since the 4 U1s together run slightly faster than the 22 BEs, I will probably just add more U1s and put my BEs up for sale, but it is still an undesirable behavior...

How are you getting your U1s to run at full speed with your BEs on 3.9.0??  What is your command line or .conf?  When I try running my U1s and BEs together, the U1s run just 20% or so faster than the BEs on my win7 box.

Any update on overclocking the Antminer U1?

Just going to need time. It's not difficult, just a lot on my plate (I have a day job and another side job outside of all this Bitcoin bidness  Grin)

I also want to try to figure out how to properly ID these buggers so I can tell them from BEs.

The good news is I got in touch with Bitmaintech and they are providing me with info to keep development going so that should be a great help.

Also interested in this.  Currently running my BEs and U1s on separate machines to avoid the conflict and get the best performance from each (U1s running at about 1.9 Gh/s each using the '0981' freq setting). Of course, if I sell my BEs to a suck, er, another miner and replace them with all U1s, then it's a moot point Smiley

Do you have to start the U1s one at a time with BFGMiner like I have to do with the ANT branch of cgminer (on a Win7 box)? Sure would be nice if they all just started like the BEs do!

It seems that the last version of CGMiner that could find all 5 of my USB Erupters immidiately on every start is 3.6.4
Any newer version of program finds randomly 0 to 5 devices. Sometimes it happens certain device is not found even
after few hours. What exactly is changed after version 3.6.4 that affects USB Erupter detection? Im using Win7 64-bit
but issue exists with WinXP 32-bit as well.
3.9.0 finds all 22 of my BEs within a minute or two on restart pretty reliably (win7 i3 box using powered 7-port USB2 hubs and an fan to keep them cool). I also am running cgminer 3.3.1 to mine scrypt on a gpu (it doesn't see my BEs), and cpuminer using just 2 threads mining a cpu-only coin just to keep from wasting available cpu cycles Smiley  (I found cgminer had problems managing the BEs if I used more cpu threads mining).  I have 4 antminer U1s running on another machine using a forked version of cgminer since they don't play well with BEs at the current software level of maturity (they are a relatively new device that unfortunately share the same USB ID as the BEs, but the 4 are as fast as my 22 BEs!).

Bottom line - I've had good luck with the newer versions of cgminer - great devs!

Re: Bitmain AntMiner U1 Tips & Tricks
by

As far as I know, that's the only solution... My way around it is to disconnect the USB hub, plug 1 antminer into the PC and start cgminer, then plug in the USB hub and wait for it to pick up the devices, then unplug the device from your PC and plug it into the hub... Bit of a PITA, but not much effort really. Hopefully a proper fix will be on the way soon.
On a Win7 machine, I leave one U1 plugged into the powered usb-2 hub, start cgminer (I use a freq code of 0981 with a re-purposed cpu fan blowing on them), wait until the first U1 is running, then plug in the next, wait until it's running, repeat until my 4 are all in. Sometimes I've had to reload the usb driver for one of the U1s, but not always.  It's been reasonably stable of the last couple of days (though the machine rebooted once for updates, and last night the machine mysteriously crashed - can't say it's related to the U1s). The 4 U1s run about as fast as my 22 BEs (running on a separate machine because of the compatibility issues).

I very much agree that the U1 offers a much better price/performance than the BE or the furys.  Now we just need to mature the software driving them (ideally to allow them to play nice with my BEs!)
