I have laptop with 3070 gpu, I use it to mine when it does nothing else ...

Well I cant change power settings on it but sometimes it take 94W of power and then it is hot and loud and sometimes (rather rare cases Smiley) it takes 79W of power and then it is cool and quiet (hashrate more or less is same). Is there a way to set it always to be on 79W or that thing is beyond t-rex's control (some HP o15 own secret thing that is beyond my control).

sorry for my english. I hope you got my question Smiley

Use MSI Afterburner to set the Power limit to 79 watts.

if I cant set power setting in t-rex, you think MSI Afterburner allows it ?

best overclock settings for 7900xtx (for etc+zil mining in ezil)
by
StonieMalony
on 05/03/2023, 17:05:33 UTC
Hello,

I just got upgrade from 6900xt to 7900xtx and now I am trying to find miner and best overclock settings. It looks that still the best miner is Phoenix although it doesnt have zil caching and I have to use general kernel (as Phoenixminer itself is dead I think and no updates). But my trouble with phoenix is that it doesnt show me power use(actually other miners do not show me it either) ... even SRBminer that says that it supports 7900 gpus(I dont think any other miner have said the same)

anyway right now with Phoenix and gminer and srb-miner I have managed to get 109MH/s with memory on 2740Mhz(in amd control panel(it show it is 2728Mhz)) and core is 1488Mhz, core voltage is set .700, power limit is -10

it uses 280W - 285W of power (I see other monitoring places, not in miners) ... is this how it is the best or what overclock settings should I use ... and can add the ability to see wattage in miners ? is there some fix for it ? thank you

I havent tried teamredminer because I always find it troublesome, with my 6900xt at least Smiley

I just wanna say thanks a lot phenix miner.. for 4 year been using .. All running smoothly with my AMD card.
Again thanks a lot.

I second that.

PhoenixMiner has been my miner on Debian Linux as it can adjust the
-tt -ttj -ttmem -fpwm -cclock -mclock and so on
specially with my ASRock RX 5500 XT Challenger Pro as TRM sucks for not having these control options from the terminal and Gminer don' t give me enough option either.

My only wish would be kawpow (afaik should't be to difficult to implement as it related to progpow and firo)

In any case thanks PhoenixMiner  Smiley

same here Smiley thank you PhoenixMiner

Debian buster/bullseye/bookworm(testing)? What extra line in grub and which driver version do you use.

I added "amdgpu.ppfeaturemask=0xffffffff" to /etc/default/grub to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT part. I installed amd drivers for debian as show in some howto, I think that's the standard way Smiley and then I manually installed opencl-rocr-amdgpu-pro and all the dependencies manually. I installed then from tarball of 21.20 version of drivers(for ubuntu 20.04)

my kernel is 5.10.0-16

debian version is bullseye.

Hi, in my home server I have 5500xt that is mining ETC but I seem to be unable to overclock it, I have added the necessary line to grub but I seem to get lost in what I need to echo into what files.

Can somebody leave an example how to make it ? it could be cool if example clocks 5500xt to:

Core clock 1100 MHz
Core voltage 780 mV
Memory clock 900 MHz
Memory state voltage 1350 mV
Memory controller voltage 800 mV

Thank You.

solved it Smiley made coolbits to be 28, I dont know why I thought 32 is better number and add paramete -enable-all-gpus to nvidia-xconfig and it started to work again.

the driver version is 460.91 and I use t-rex miner. in linux t-rex do not set clocks ? or it does ?

I dont have screen on that box so I use that script to set clocks, when I first put that box together again I added one 1060 but it ended up being card1 and that script made it's fans run but there was the trouble with card2(third card, 3080) ... so as I had 1060 for couple of days only I thought too much trouble and I removed it (I felt it to be too much jazz to get it running) ... after that the first 3080 clocks and fans were set but the second 3080 had that error and no message that memory clock is set. so I thought that it is coolbits thing and I run a command:
Code:
sudo nvidia-xconfig -a --cool-bits=32 --allow-empty-initial-configuration
and after that when I ran the script I didnt see that it set fan speed for the first card and I had same fan error with first card ... I think I am missing something small and I wrote here in hope that somebody knows exactly what Im doing wrong Smiley

Hey, I moved my rig and I did some reconfiguration and somehow I have messed up something with setting my clocks and fan speeds.

probably something really simple, can somebody point out where the error is ?

I use script to set clocks/fans:
nvidia-smi -i 0 -pm 1
nvidia-smi -i 0 -pl 244
nvidia-smi -i 1 -pm 1
nvidia-smi -i 1 -pl 244
DISPLAY=:0 XAUTHORITY=/var/run/lightdm/root/:0 nvidia-settings -a [gpu:0]/GPUFanControlState=1 -a [fan:0]/GPUTargetFanSpeed=85
DISPLAY=:0 XAUTHORITY=/var/run/lightdm/root/:0 nvidia-settings -a [gpu:0]/GPUFanControlState=1 -a [fan:1]/GPUTargetFanSpeed=85
DISPLAY=:0 XAUTHORITY=/var/run/lightdm/root/:0 nvidia-settings -a '[gpu:0]/GPUMemoryTransferRateOffsetAllPerformanceLevels=2500'

DISPLAY=:0 XAUTHORITY=/var/run/lightdm/root/:0 nvidia-settings -a [gpu:1]/GPUFanControlState=1 -a [fan:2]/GPUTargetFanSpeed=85
DISPLAY=:0 XAUTHORITY=/var/run/lightdm/root/:0 nvidia-settings -a [gpu:1]/GPUFanControlState=1 -a [fan:3]/GPUTargetFanSpeed=85
DISPLAY=:0 XAUTHORITY=/var/run/lightdm/root/:0 nvidia-settings -a '[gpu:1]/GPUMemoryTransferRateOffsetAllPerformanceLevels=2500'

when I run it I get error:
ERROR: Error assigning value 85 to attribute 'GPUTargetFanSpeed' (brigid:0[fan:0]) as specified in assignment '[fan:0]/GPUTargetFanSpeed=85' (Unknown Error).
ERROR: Error assigning value 85 to attribute 'GPUTargetFanSpeed' (brigid:0[fan:1]) as specified in assignment '[fan:1]/GPUTargetFanSpeed=85' (Unknown Error).
ERROR: Error assigning value 85 to attribute 'GPUTargetFanSpeed' (brigid:0[fan:2]) as specified in assignment '[fan:2]/GPUTargetFanSpeed=85' (Unknown Error).
ERROR: Error assigning value 85 to attribute 'GPUTargetFanSpeed' (brigid:0[fan:3]) as specified in assignment '[fan:3]/GPUTargetFanSpeed=85' (Unknown Error).

what have I done, what's the fix ?

I installed latest drivers with command ssudo amdgpu-install --opencl=rocr,legacy --vulkan=amdvlk,pro -y --accept-eula
and now I got opposite situation ... 5500 xt is found and r9 390 is not

Code:

what can be the problem ? what am I missing ... somehow I am sure that it is something really simple but just I cant see it Smiley

well now I did sudo amdgpu-uninstall and sudo dpkg -r amdgpu-install and had some tarball with 21.20 drivers ... I installed from there with command  sudo ./amdgpu-pro-install --opencl=rocr,legacy -y and now again in first place ... r9 390 is found but 5500xt not while lshw and lspci and lm-sensors remain the same ... I even tried that I disabled igpu (the rig have no monitor anyway) just in case it does something to mess up everything but no ... still only r9 390 (with drivers 21.20)

what driver version should I use ? help Smiley what am I missing ?

also while 5500 xt was working and I removed it and left only r9 connected, r9 390 didnt start to work or be found by any of the miners and vise-versa(while 390 was working and removing 5500xt)

hello there,

I try to get 5500xt working under ubuntu (to mine etc) but I seem to hit a dead end ... I mean lshw shows that amdgpu is used, lm-sensors show allkind of info ... everything seems to be working just none of the miners find the card ... I use the same rig to mine with old r9 390 and it works perfectly ... amdgpu is installed with --opencl=legacy,rocm ... so in theory it should be just plug it in and start mining but like I said none of the miners recognize the card ... what am I doing wrong ? am I missing something Smiley

also rocm-smi do not know that there's 5500xt ...

thank you for any hints Smiley

if they stick with 256bit memory bus then I think results might not be very good ... 5700xt still rocks more in sense of being an ultimate mining card or something Smiley

thank you for clearing it up Smiley I been wondering about it for very long time and few times I was even thinking okay I have some old PC lets do the experiment Cheesy does it work in USB 3 but luckily I was always too lazy to try it out Smiley ... is too many watts only problem with it ?
