thanks for that Smiley

yes it is a little bit old.  i dont like 0.9, the look and feel annoys me for some reason. i ended up uninstalling it after i was done playing around.
i think if i have rpc disabled in 0.8 i should not be vulnerable to some of the latest ssl exploits.

migrating blockchain to a new computer

hi

i need some help with migrating bitcoin-qt files to another desktop i am temporarily using.
i have done it previously with older versions so i dont no if the steps are valid.
i no wallet.dat can be moved across, but i do not no about the blockchain files.

my version of bitcoin-qt is 0.8.x
do i need to do a -detach or anything on the existing pc or can i just install bitcoin-qt on the new desktop then copy and paste %appdata%/bitcoin across ? if so do i copy paste all the files or do i need to leave some out ?

is there a wiki or something i can check ?

thanks!

why does a login count as a post in the 360 second timer. i think it catches a lot of newer people out.
is a login that counts really required ?

Re: Easiest (secure) way to send bitcoins from an old wallet?
by
Sydboy
on 25/07/2014, 17:22:15 UTC
the easiest and quickest way might be to send the wallet to a trust escrow person and have them load the wallet and send the address you specific. it might cost you a small fee depending on who you use.

when will bitcoin-qt 0.8.x not be compatible with the new versions
by
Sydboy
on 25/07/2014, 17:14:33 UTC
i still use bitcoin-qt 0.8.x
i was wondering if i MUST upgrade in the near future to be compatible with the rest of the network.

is their an end date when everyone needs to be using 0.9.x or will 0.8.x last me for a good while ?
i just prefer the layout of 0.8.x before anyone asks why i do not upgrade =)
and yeah i no it might be vulnerable to heartbleed but i do not use rpc which i believe would make me not vulnerable ?

thanks happy people!

this is the beginners section. he is hardly trying to educate the educated.
he is trying to educate beginners. if his q&a stops people from making threads asking those basic questions he has succeeded.

No, it's not the right place. He's trying to educate the educated.

To the OP you should buy some paper wallets and hand them out to friends, family, charities, or make a scavenger hunt about it.

There's a guy/gal on Twitter (@SFHiddenBitcoin) putting paper wallets around the city and then tweeting clues, all in the spirit of "spreading the gospel". It's good stuff, for sure.

i was down in melbourne 2 or 3 weekends ago and i think the hoops you need to jump through is going to put people off. i was having a chat to a mates, mate and he wanted to buy bitcoins and basically, yeah he was turned right off. when i told him of some of the other options to purchse bitcoins in 2-3 hours his eyes lit up.
i still dont no why someone would need to get bitcoins straight away unless they were purchasing drugs and could not wait a few hours, which in its self does not make sense.  it is not like the posties can delivery same day.

all of the signature campaigns close down except for pd.
we should be grateful to stunna. he has had this going for what 10 months now ?
some people would of made a lot of bitcoins in that time!!!

instead of increasing post count by guessing what he will do why dont we just wait and get on with everyting else.

Accentures business model is great, not as great as the model you posted in the bottm pic lol.
but accentue hires graduates for $40k a year and contracts them out to large companies for $1000/day.
do the maths on that one Smiley

Isn't accenture simply an outsourcing agency? I mean what Tiger Woods did was only outsourcing his sex life from his marriage Cheesy

use Tor. It is free and you get to keep your bitcoins.
if you paid and it is all working, are you just waiting on answers to your questions, but besides that you are a happy customer ?

is the delivery fee taken into consideration when ebay wants their cut of the money ?
if you want to sell a $100 item, could you sell it for $10, make the buyer pay $90 shipping, and then pay ebay what ever percentage of $10 instead of the full $100 ? would that work ?
